2012 ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nurburgring

17th - 20th May 2012

The 40th ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race is scheduled to run Saturday, May 19, 14:00 - Sunday, May 20, 2012, 14:00 (Ascension Day weekend).

For 2012: The race is limited to a maximum of 190 cars/entries (down from a limit of 250 entries in 2011), which will start in 3 groups of up to 70 cars (maximum). Each entry must have between 2 drivers (minimum) and 4 drivers (maximum). Drivers may drive more than one car (2 maximum). All drivers are permitted to drive 3 hours per stint (maximum) with all refuelling and pit stops included. All drivers are requred to take a MINIMUM REST TIME of 2 hours (whether driving 1 or 2 cars).

New in 2012: There is an exciting new "Top-40" qualifying format for the 40 fastest cars on the starting grid, which will take place, Friday, after the first 2 qualifying sessions: "the 40 fastest teams will battle it out on Friday afternoon for the positions at the front end of starting group 1".

As in previous years, the Top 40 Qualifying cars eligible to start, must have flashing lights installed (for better identification of the Top 40 competitors) behind the windscreen on the passenger’s side.

The race is early this year. I wonder what that will mean for the weather?

The official Website usually streams the race as well.

I can hardly wait for this race to start. 👍

Looks like there are only 2 cars in Kaz's class, (both are GTR's) so we won't have quite the excitment we had last year with the 3 "Chuck Norris" Golfs.

I'm so psyched for the race....have to teach a motorcycle course during the day tho! Argh...guess I'll get mostly night racing (which is awesome anyways :)

I'm gonna try and negotiate a trip next year....or the one after that. Hrm..or maybe the one after that.

I'm looking forward to this one, though, I work weekends but can keep my PC loaded up with the streaming. Last year was great fun, naturally I was cheering for Kaz.

Thanks for all the links and info, much appreciated! Another race I'm looking forward to.

PD still thinks they race LMPs here :sly:

Haha yeah. Looks like Audi wants a win over here as well like in Le Mans. One question: is Peugeot sport gonna enter their GT3 race car which is the RCZ based model?

Doesn't look like it, the only ones on are entry list are in the SP2T class (1.6 turbo) all the other cars in class are Mini's

Okay, but it seems that Peugeot have been racing there a month ago, which it says on their website.

It would seem your idea of what spec a GT3 car is, is a long way off mine. I assumed from your first post they'ed shoe horned a 4ltr V8 up front and gave it RWD ;)

Okay, thanks a lot for the facts mate! Have a good day. :)

Ill be running in the #54 SP7 Porsche GT3 Cup.

If anyone is out at the ring watching, let me know, pass by our box. Free food available :P

I'm there, maybe I'll get around to it :)

@ Grenade: the weather around here changes so much they can't even predict 2 days ahead, and I'm guessing it will be even lesser predictable at Nurburg so I wouldn't worry yet... A bit of rain might be nice :)

Another car for us to follow 👍

What are your hopes for the race? I think just getting to the finish line would be enough for me, but what are you aiming for, best in class, top 50, top 25?

True, I guess we'll only really know on race day.

Sure! dont know which pit box we will be in, but if you happen to see people running around in "Car Collection Motorsport"shirts, just ask them for Chris

Overall Top 25 should be possible, in our class we are aiming for a Top 3, perhaps even win.

But hey, its a 24h race at the Ring... anything can happen :)

Chris

Indeed, good luck with the race, we'll be rooting for you 👍
I'll try and look for your car when snapping some shots.

Just thought I'd pop in here. Chganged my avatar to suit aswell. ;)

looking at the entry list you're in box 30 along with 5 others, it's going to be busy in there.

#27 SP9 997 GT3R
#45 SP7 997
#47 SP7 997 GT3
#53 SP7 911 GT3 Cup
#54 SP7 997 GT3 Cup
#89 SP8 Audi A8

Overall Top 25 should be possible, in our class we are aiming for a Top 3, perhaps even win.

Chris

SP7 looks a very healthy catagory with 19 cars, a top 3 finish in class would be a great result, I'll keep my fingers crossed and follow your progress throughout the race 👍

Good luck 👍

I'll be trying to watch as much of this as I can but I'll inevitably miss some of the night section :(.

I'll mainly be focusing on the overall leaders since I don't really understand how the cars are categorised in the Nur 24.

Thanks for that :)

I do have a little question though, how are the cars split into the sub categories such as SP9 and SP10? As I presumed that the higher the number the 'faster' the car so to speak yet that doesn't make sense for 9 and 10 since 10 is for GT4 and 9 is for GT3 yet a GT3 car is faster than a GT4 :odd:

It's all about engine size (page 13 of the PDF link below). But yes, SP9 = FIA GT3, SP10 = SRO GT4.

SP = specials.
SP *T is for turbo engines.
SP 9 is FIA GT3, SP 10 is FIA/SRO GT4.
D = Diesel. (they are all T, for obvious reasons.).
E1-XP = experimental invitational class.
AT = alternative fuels
N = FIA Gp.N.
V = VLN stock production cars (stock drivetrain).

SP 2T (Turbo) 1.600 up to 1.750 ccm (engines 1.350-1.500 ccm by special request only)
SP 3 1.750 up to 2.000 ccm
SP 3T (Turbo) 1.750 up to 2.000 ccm

SP 4 2.000 up to 2.500 ccm
SP 4T (Turbo) 2.000 up to 2.600 ccm
SP 5 2.500 up to 3.000 ccm
SP 6 3.000 up to 3.500 ccm
SP 7 3.500 up to 4.000 ccm
SP 8 4.000 up to 6.250 ccm
SP 8T (Turbo) 2.500 up to 4.000 ccm
SP 9 (FIA-GT3)
SP 10 (SRO-GT4)

D1T (Diesel) 1.750 up to 2.000 ccm
D2T (Diesel) 2.000 up to 2.500 ccm
D3T (Diesel) 2.500 up to 3.000 ccm
D4T (Diesel) 3.000 up to 6.250 ccm (by special request only)

AT (by special permission only)

E1-XP1 1.750 up to 3.000 ccm
E1-XP2 3.000 up to 6.250 ccm
E1-XP Hybrid 1.750 up to 6.250 ccm

V 2 1.750 up to 1.800 ccm
V 3 1.800 up to 2.000 ccm
V 4 2.000 up to 2.500 ccm
V 5 2.500 up to 3.000 ccm
V 6 3.000 up to 3.500 ccm

N 2 1.750 up to 2.000 ccm
N 3 2.000 up to 2.500 ccm
N 4 2.500 up to 3.000 ccm
N 5 3.000 up to 6.250 ccm

Everyone should read this, its full of all the info you'll ever need.
