I own several Hot Wheels models of the Toyota MR2 SW20 Rally car. I was wondering, is this a real Rally car, or one Hot Wheels made up?
 
No, that's the bodystyle before the SW20.

anyway, what about the Hot Wheels car?
 
i dont think so. an MR car doing a rally? ive never heard of an MR2 rally car
 
MR car doing a rally? Does Lancia Stratos come to mind?

I don't think its based off a real car, atleast not in any of the top classes. The lower classes have everything from Sentra's to Volvo's driving in them, so its possible that the idea came from there.
 
Not to mention RS200, Renault 5 Maxi, Peugeot 205 T16...

All of them MR.
 
The RS200 and Peugeot are both Mid-engined AWD rally cars, but good point with the Renault.
 
Doing a rally race with the targa top off? That takes balls. :lol:
 
I believe there is a Group B Toyota in the game Colin McRae Rally 3 (might be in 04 and 2005 as well, not sure..), and it resemlbed the black MR2 that a member posted just a few posts above.

It's a full out hill climb car. It's got a full roll cage and tons of other safety devices. It makes around 625 HP :nervous:

It's sad that that AW11 group B rally car never got a chance.

whoa...sorry guys, dont know where the hell my mind was...thanks for proving me wrong and showing me up...great examples too...and the funny thing is, later that day, i watched a rally i had taped. watched MR's race for days it felt like lol
 
With 700bhp that MR2 group B car must have been 4wd.
 
That MR2 was actiually made for a proposed "group S" class. (which was canceled along with group B)

Only 3 were ever made.
-one was built with transversely mounted engine, and RWD
-the other two had longitudinally mounted engines and AWD

The turbocharged 2L engine made 600hp.

Edit:
Only two cars were ever made for a group S class, the MR2 and the Lancia ECV. Group S cars were limited to 300 HP, even though both cars built for the class made 600HP. Strange...
 
I always wondered why Group S was cancelled. They were limtied to only 300hp, which is what today's cars are at.
 
Geeeeez.....

well, the Hot Wheels model was probably an American rally effort.

I can't get a good pic of the original paint job, but it looked like the BAJA off-road racers in the early '90s.
