So it might be earlier than planned, but I have all the permission I need, so here it is, the Annual Official GTPlanet Photomode Awards Thread.


For this to go well, there needs to be rules, and everyone needs to stick to them.


  • Keep ALL of your voting private, this means that you do not discuss in this thread, or anywhere else on GTPlanet, who you voted for.
  • You vote in each catergory once, and you must vote in every catergory for your nominations to count.
  • When you have voted, make a post saying : Voted.
  • PM me all your nominations, name the PM, Photomode Award Nominations.
  • When PM'ing me the nominations, for each nomination, give a thumbnail of the image, or a link to a single post where the image is.
  • Don't vote for yourself, it's just stupid and I will know.
  • Have fun, if you don't reach a poll, don't ruin it for everyone else.



The Nomination Stage - You have 14 days (two weeks) to send in your nominations, remember, you must nominate a member/image for each catergory.

The Deadline - The Deadline for the nomination stage is October 31st.

Best Newcomer Gallery - What you think is the best gallery which started between March 1st - September 20th 2006. The post #1 date must be between the dates mentioned.

Overall Best Artist - The one who can Photoshop the best, but is also exellent at making pictures look great not using Photoshop.

I thinkyou need more category, best GIMP gallery, best picasa or other gallery 👍

Also, most creative gallery, most exiting gallery, neatest gallery and worst gallery.
 
Worst gallery? Lmao, will that work? Other are pretty good though.

Two weeks won't hurt, going for nearly two hours, still no one has nominated.
 
I think that there should be a best Photoshop 2.0 comp, where photoshopped images are allowed up to 2.0 Competition standards. That way great 2.0 Comp entries won't have to mix in with those more substantial photoshopped images.
 
Yes, I strongly agree with Revolution here. Through the popularity in the photomode competitions, I surely would have thought that images under the '2.0 rules' would have taken a major (if not, dominant) role in any photomode awards. And as Revo said, there is quite a great difference between the photoshop limits of 2.0, and an unlimited amount. Far to different to be set under the same category IMO.
 
Ok, I'll add that, but no more, we need some people nominating :rolleyes:......
 
Perhaps eliminating the requirement that you nominate someone/picture from EVERY category would help with getting more entries/nominations. That's a lot of necessary research and will take a long time. I'd rather be able to pick and choose.

Hmmm... I don't think that the 2.0 rules should be the dominat force in these awards, they should play a part, like other forms of image creation, but they should not be the sole driving force of this competition. Personally, I only use three types of basic PS filter when I create my images, but because some are not in the 2.0 ruleset, the vast majority of my gallery is unusable in those competition, even though, picture for picture I use less tools and filters than any other 2.0 artist. This is also part of the reason why I rarely enter those competitions nowadays (though I vote regularly).

I really don't see any problem with editing an image anyway you see fit. It seems the 2.0 rules are made to benefit those that manually edit pictures. Infact, the rules almost soley cater for that style of artist, at the expense of those that don't create images in that way.

How about just judging an image on its quality and creativity, and not by whether it conforms to some rule or another? A great image is a great image whether it has been edited or not, and discriminating against it just because it has been edited outside of some ruleset is the wrong way to go. Just my 2 pence worth.

EDIT: Great idea for a competition by the way George. Here is another catagory. 'Most influential Artist' - I have been greatly influenced by some of the many artists here. So how about a catagory for them?
 
I want to nominate people, but i dont think that i have the time to make a nomination for every single one of those categories, i just dont have the time, not to mention, im not even sure if i can think of an image/member that would fit the bill for some of the categories...and since im not allowed to only nominate for certain categories, i dont think i will participate in the nominations...i want to, its just too time consuming to find the image and all...

Well, that just goes to show how obsessed I am with the 2.0 rules :lol:

But I would certainly find it odd if a standard 2.0 picture would be in the same category as a picture of a car, altered to look like the Delorean time machine. Just an example, but never mind, I am quite happy with the categories we have at th moment... so I will stop my bickering and get on with the voting. 👍
 
Hmmm, ok you have to vote in at least 7 catergories out of 13 :).

What I'm saying is that I think it would be a bit silly to have an image like this mixed in with pictures like this.

Hey, I get what your point too; But your assuming that all pictures that are edited outside the 2.0 rules are like that, and they are not. Obvious photoshop modifications like the James Bond Lotus or the BTTF Delorean are no-no's, as would be other 'finishes' that would be better placed in the artistic release or creative competition.

What I'm trying to say is this: If the image looks like a regular GT4 shot, and it can satisfy the statement below, then there should be no need for other rules. The emphasis should be on upholding the spirit of 2.0, not having to regulate it with a set of narrowly focussed rules.

2.0 Advanced Competition Rules
'You can use layers for overlay and layer adjustments, but not to alter the geometry and original subject matter of the picture: like adding stickers and body kits, and objects that are not in the original image.'

Finally, pictures like this this may have to mix it up with pictures like this this. If I'm getting the vibes right off what George is trying to do with this thread - its going to kind of be like a 'photomode oscars'. If thats the case, then there is going to have to be a catagory for 'Overall Best Image' (regardless of the finish), and 'Overall Best Artist' (regardless of their style). It would be a travesty not to have those two catagories, so I hope George will include them. 👍
