Heya boys.

This is an ongoing timesheet involving road going cars with road tires in LAN mode (other classes of car are also catered for though). I've been running it for a while over at the Spirit of Gran Turismo forums, and quite a few times are currently listed. Also started a similar thread at the GT Times forum and some other threads around the GT community (like my home board Torc Talk and also here :sly: ).

An Excel spreadsheet is available for download at the link provided at the end of this post.

Its not a race, just a way to enjoy some laps with your mates in some of your favorite cars. Just like in real life people like to drive around the Nurburgring in various cars and compare times. Drive clean, and give each other lots of racing room. I don't even mind staggered starts if racing the clock is what it all about (but i tend to like the mad dash at the start *hehe*).

The inspiration for this style of combined LAN results is from the ole GT3 i-link race complilations that Joe Racer and Vanishingpoint used to run (ah the memories of the ole iLRS)

--------------------

TRACK - Nurburgring Nordschleife

MODE - LAN Mode (you must have at least 2 drivers on track)

TIRES - Road Tires (wear set to OFF please)

LAPS - 1 to 4

CARS - Road cars using road tires. Different power classes are listed (0 - 150kW, 151 - 250kW, 251 - 350kW, and a 350kW +). An Open class for all other car/tire combos is also in there somewhere.

WHAT TO SUBMIT - Name, Time, Car, LAN location, LAN date, Number of racers on the track with you, Number of laps, your fastest lap, and controller used.

--------------------

The whole idea of this is to combine different LAN results from the 'Green Hell'. Its sort of a simulated version of real life timesheets around this legendary course. So at your next LAN you may like to include this race for a bit of added fun. Road going cars with road going tires is the main class that i'm interested in (but other classes are catered for). I've run a few 4-5 player LANs, and quite a few simple 2 player LANs, and find this a good way to enjoy Gran Turismo and in particular this circuit.

What ya waiting for, get into it. ;). With soo many quality LAN groups out there i'm sure more times will come in. Remember, it does not have to be a big 6 player LAN, a simple two player hook up is just as acceptable.

btw - big kudos to Tony Randall for the logos and Joe racer for his advice on the spreadsheet and classes, as well as hosting the results on his web space.

Mananged to get in a few Nurburgring laps over the last few days. Had some 2 player runs on Friday, then some 3 player runs on Saturday, then a couple more on today . The ole bones are sore i tell ya.

8’49.604 – NWS77 – 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR
8’45.038 – Rypien – 1990 Mazda RX7 GT-X
Comments – Love the FC RX7. Reasonably close match with the original old Mitsubishi Evo.

2 drivers / 2 laps
9'20.158 - NWS77 - 1997 Toyota Starlet Glanza V
9'19.554 - Rypien - 1997 Toyota Starlet Glanza V
Comments - Always had a soft spot for this little Japanese Import. Almost bought one a fair few years back when i was in my boy racer days A surpising good drive around the Nurburgring despite its small turbo and humble performance.

27/07/2007
2 drivers / 3 laps
8'01.570 - NWS77 - 1999 Dodge Viper
8'14.794 - Rypien - Nissan Skyline GTR Vspec II (R32)
Comments - Nigel improved his old Viper time by 15 odd seconds if menory serves me correct. He still struggled with the big american beast on the road tires. I took out the Vspec version of the great 'Godzilla' GTR and sqeezed myself a couple of seconds over my previous older spec Skyline R32.

2 drivers / 3 laps
8'05.826 - NWS77 - 2004 FPV F6 Typhoon
7'59.364 - Rypien - 2004 Subaru WRX Spec C
Comments - Nigel just missed out on a new PB by a few hundreths of a second, while i was very happy to take the Suby 4WD monster under the 8 minute mark. I was suprised to see how close i was to the top two WRX times on the leaderboard. Might come back to this one at some stage as it was a sloppy lap.

28/07/2007
3 drivers / 2 laps
8'06.241 - NWS77 - 2004 FPV Typhoon
8'03.241 - Rypien - 2001 Mazda RX7 Bathurst
8'03.717 - VTRacing - 2004 Lotus Elise 111R
Coments - Nigel tried and failed once again in his F6 Typhoon quest . I'm around 3 seconds off my previous PB in the RX7, while VTRacing was warming up his Lotus skills by being all over the back of the RX7 on the first lap and then keeping good close splits going for lap 2.

28/07/2007
3 drivers / 2 laps
DNF - NWS77 - Pagani Zonda C12S 7.3
7'28.085 - Rypien - 2003 Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren
7'39.850 - VTRacing - 2005 BMW M5
Comments - Nigel had a horrid time in the Zonda and had quite a few words to say about it. VTRacing enjoyed the M5 and looking at the timesheet his time is very competitive in a long list of M5's. I was suprised to see that my time now leads the FR drivetrain class in the 350kW+ catagory. The Merc is a defainte raocketship, and even on road tires is a pleasure to drive around the Green Hell. I'm sure some good driver could take it to the top of the pile in the 350kW+ catagory without any doubt.

28/07/2007
3 drivers / 3 laps.
8'05.682 - NWS77 - 2004 FPV Typhoon
7'44.504 - Rypien - 2004 Aston Martin Vanquish
8'01.410 - VTRacing - 2004 Lotus Elise 111R
Comments - Nigel was obsessed with the big ole aussie turbo 6, but kept just missing out on on new PB. VTRacing had a blistering run in the Lotus and now sits second outright in the sub 150kW class (less than a second off Joe Racers 8 minte run). I enjoyed the Aston and it sits favorably when compared to the other Astons that have already hit the track previously. Gotta luv the big ole V12 machine.

29/07/2007
2 drivers / 2 laps
8'11.472 - NWS77 - 2004 FPV Typhoon
8'03.156 - Rypien - 2001 RX7 Bathrust
Comments - Both of us had big plans of getting new PB's in cars that we have previously run to death. Nigel had a shocker, and i had a very good start (49.2 1 at T1, and a 5'57 at T8) but got a little cautious at the end.

29/07/2007
2 drivers / 2 laps
8'05.788 - NWS77 - 2004 FPV Typhoon
8'02.492 - Rypien - 2004 FPV Typhoon
Comments - I've always wanted to crack under the 8 minute mark in the Typhoon, but was happy to set a new PB anyways. Poor ole Nigel just missed out again. Got no sympathy from me though! Looking at the timesheet i can see that two guys have gotten the Typhoon into the 7'57 mark. WOW.

29/07/2007
2 drivers / 2 laps
7'47.594 - NWS77 - 2004 Aston Martin Vanquish
7'45.329 - Rypien - 2003 Aston Martin DB9
Comments - Jeez these cars are great looking. Nigel had a bad off and his time could have been very quick indeed. Speaking for myself i was happy to put in a solid run in the older DB9 and am happy with its position in the timesheet when compared to other Astons.

29/07/2007
2 drivers / 3 laps
7'46.269 - NWS77 - 2004 Aston Martin Vanquish
7'47.445 - Rypien - 2000 TVR Tuscan Speed 6
Comments - I remeber seeing Small_Fryz take this car for a whirl at an old lan, and was keen to give it a go to as i had previously run it in an OLR series over at the now defunct GTX forums. Suprised to see how competitve the little TVR is.

29/07/2007
2 drivers / 3 laps
7'46.973 - NWS77 - 2003 Aston Martin DB9
8'43.915 - Rypien - 1999 Spoon Integra Type R
Comments - Nigel got himself a new PB in his DB9 (taking some 4 seconds off his last effort earlier in the year). I enjoyed the 'tuned' version of the Integra, but failed to get the best out of the car due to the Red Bull running out and my eyes getting sore (not to mention my arse from sitting down all day).

Till next time. happy racing.

TIMESHEET UPDATED

A couple of submissions for you, Rypien!

From the end of the day at SFGTP1, we had a chance with 4 cars on track to run some laps, however, SimRaceDriver in a Yellowbird, and myself in a TVR Tuscan Speed 6 struggled with the RD tyres and couldn't post a remotely fast or clean lap to submit. :guilty:

These guys in their rides of choice did though, and I believe one of them will stand as the slowest submitted lap for a while, until we find someone else with ooodles and ooodles of patience!!!

Driver: ceiling_fan Laptime: 19'04.408 Car: Daihatsu Midget '63 on RD tyres Location: San Francisco, USA Date: 15th July 2007 Controller: DS2 Race length & competitors: 2 laps, 4 cars on track.
Driver: alrivers Laptime: 7'45.374 Car: BMW M5 '05 on RD tyres Location: San Francisco, USA Date: 15th July 2007 Controller: DS2 Race length & competitors: 2 laps, 4 cars on track.

I'll have to leave you to find the metric power & torque figures for these cars as my gamesave is in HP & lb/ft units.

Awesome 👍

It's always a pleasure to submit new times. The RD Road tyres do take a little bit of getting used to, and i see that three of you chose some pretty high hp cars that can really be a handfull. I'm sure next time out you blokes will rip up the track. There is a reason they call it the 'Green Hell' :sly:

I may be having a few simple 2 player runs tonight (after some Halo2 action), so i'll leave the updates until after our runs are complete (i'm gunna get an FD RX7 sub 8 minute if it kills me!

Thanks again for the times and i'll update asap.

btw - ceiling_fan must be a madman to run the Daihatsu Midget!!!!!

Seems your 1st post has run into the issues I've had over in the SFGTP1 Results & Photos Thread, and disappeared. I've just now discovered that there's a 22000 character limit on each individual post here, and should you exceed that, everything just disappears!
Best advice is to do what I've done in my thread and split your long post up into 2 or more sections, and then it will work fine. 👍

Ah, thanks for the tip. Will have to get cracking 👍

EDIT: Timesheet updated and character limit fixed.

Just got a whole heap of new times from a few of our New Zealand friends -

I've yet to update all of the forums time lists but i do have the full Excel file if anyone wants me to email it to them (just pm me your email). The benefit of having the Excel file is that you can sort the list by any catagory you want, and organise your list any which way suits you. I'm happy to email it out as it has alot of extra information and is colour coded for easy recognition of drivetrain leaders etc....

Hope to update the basic time list here at the GTP soon though.

We’ve had a few nights of unadulterated ‘Ring Challenging. It has been around six months since our last saturation of the fever but it looks like the wonderful disease is capturing us all once again. The timesheet has been carefully reviewed and each driver is coming up with specific targets. Poor old Rypien is once again under the gaze of SiR_Dan and TheForce and a target in their sights. Hayden, our resident big-power specialist takes on some real grunters, PRF continues on with his own pursuits and I look at bettering some of my times set nearly a year ago. And while we’re all doing this, we’re digging out a few cars that have not set a time at this stage. Database population progress continues unabated.

My two worst performances were in the cars with the most power. The Zonda only let me be a passenger, spinning twice on the lap, while the Audi was keen on some ping-pong between the barriers twice during the lap – both time resulting in 0kph reading on the speedo! Mighty fast cars they are and taming is something that they both will get... some day. :)

It was about time that I gave the Integra Type-R’s a comparison test and I was surprised by the result. The gearing of the ’95 car is quite different to the ’98 and ’99 models, yet it could match the pace of the ’98 car. The ’98 spec model was hindered by the gear ratios as I’d have to change up into 4th gear moments before many corners, so the speed accelerations were cancelled out by the de-acceleration on these corners over the ’95 car. The ’99 car was streets ahead of the ’98, more so than you’d expect from such a similar model car.

I also tried the Evo VIII GSR. PRF had previously sampled it and while unable to crack the eight minute barrier, was convinced it could. All looked to be the case until I turfed it into the barriers at the final set of corners. Hmmmm, I’ll try that one again another day.

Some more entries from the SF group, an impromptu gathering of 2 racers on Labour Day yielded the following times for the list. 👍 :D

Keep in mind there was tons of time to lose on the Spoon Race Car lap.

I highly recommend that car. Slapping on RSS tires make it the best handling car in the game! (above 300hp)

👍

Always good to have new times to add into the timesheet.

The New Zealand lads have had 3 or 4 new Lans since i've last done a proper update and i'm sadly falling behind. So sorry for my tardiness and i'll try and get everything updated and rolled out by the weekend.

Thanks again for taking the time to add some new times and i'm looking forward to entering the times and commenting on all of the new action at the Nurburgring once i've digested it all and updated.

:)

btw - PM me you email addy mate and i can send you the proper Excel spreadsheet.

Timesheet Updated

Lots of new entries and some very impressive times. Good to have some GTPlanet drivers with times submitted in some tough catagories. If you guys ever feel the need to hit the track again then let me know and i'll update the timesheet again. And i'll send the full Excel spreadsheet if you want.

The New Zealanders sure ripped things up with alot of my old times tumbling to a few of the kiwis. Seems like i've got a target on my bumper! Joe Racer set some new PB's and one of em was a super impressive NSX time to top the 151 - 250kw class. Very impressive time indeed.

Looking through the times its good to compare drivers and car types. I usually sort my Excel file into specific types of car to see how things compare that way. My favorite sub catagories to watch atm are -

All times on Road tyres. :)

Jan and VEXD had a 2-lap head to head at UKGTP8 to decide the first series. They raced Mustang GTs on Racing Hards, and finished 0.246s apart. When daan posts the video, I'll post the times ;) - they were 8'1x laps though...

Daan alreardy put up his vid 2 days ago :)
but it doesn't show the final laptime properly.

Roo's picture is much clearer and shows Jan's best lap of 7'59.959, but doesn't show vexd quickest lap, so i calculated it.
VEXD First lap: 8'14.614
Jan First lap: 8'11.221
Time difference after lap 1: 3.393
Jan second lap: 7'59.959
Time difference after lap 2: 0.269
Vexd gained: 3.124
7'59.959 - 3.124 = 7'56.835 => VEXD best lap time

Don't know if they were on road tires though. S2 tires it is ;)

Heya guys.

I've just come off some Holidays and am currently sitting with a beer in hand and a bloated belly from eating a big meal out. Damn that steak was huge, and i was sweating towards the end!

Anyways, I completed updating the timesheet with loads of new New Zealand times today, and have just stumbled across these at the GTP 👍 Great to see some more times comming in. I'll finish off my beers for tonight and update them into the timesheet this weekend. Sorry for Not seeing these earlier.

Onya guys :)

Got heaps of new entries finally entered into the timesheet.

Shame the GTP forums have word limits in posts because its making it too hard to update the times in 'post' form. I'll try and work something out over the next week.

I've got the full zipped Excel spreadsheet on my PC. If anyone would like one sent then simply PM your email addy as this is the easiest (and best) way to view results 👍

you can view some of the latest New Zealand entries here -

Cool.

I've just updated the opening posts to include the new updated times. I still recommend getting the full Excel file though, as it is better for sorting and arranging times/cars in a style that suits you and also includes info like location, number of drivers, number of laps, controller used etc....

The Excel file is also colour coded according to drivetrain to make it easier to spot the FF, MR, RR, and FR cars.

Comments: There is something quite wrong with the Honda Element. The gearing is completely bollocks. It is a 4 speed, but you only need 2 gear on the whole track! :dunce: PD really stuffed up with that car. Needless to say, it was awfully slow. The Honda Odessy is quite fun, well, considering it is a people mover. ;)

The challenge this time around was to drive cars that each person had not tried before. This made for a nice variety of cars being used and some definite oddball models showing up on the starting grid.

Timesheet Updated

Loads of times came in at the end of 2007. The Kiwis typically had lots of quality times and Joe Racer once again dominated select catagories of cars. Not to be outdone, the other New Zealand drivers all had quality times and a few PB's thrown into the mix. Its good to look through some of the old timesheets i had and see how much improvement some guys have made. Onya fellas

Also got some fast times from Bobkart and his long time Lan buds over in the good ole US of A. Really good to see these guys running road tyres and giving the Nurburgring a good shake.

And then there are the SoGT guys and thier BIG list of times to add in. I really enjoyed looking through all of the times and seeing where they fell into the mix of things. Many of these guys are old timers in the OLR scene, and there experience in Lans certainly shows with many of the times

Shame i have not been able to have a GT Lan for ages. I'd love to dig out the ole PS2 and dust off the GT4 disk, but its getting hard to rustle up drivers around my way these days

And before i forget, big thumbs up to Joe Racer for hosting the Excel Spreadsheet with all of the times listed on his web space. The opening post has been updated with the link. Cheers Stu 👍

The opening post now has the results hosted here (updates for this link will be in the opening post as well) -

TIMESHEET UPDATED

http://www.joeracer.designdesktop.com/misc/GT4_RingOpendayTIMESHEET2008.xls

People continue to submit quick times for the Nurburgring New entires from the usually quick New Zealanders, and also loads of new quick times from the lads from the Spirit of Gran Turismo forums who had a big lan recently in Germany.

With soo many quality drivers and literally hundreds of entries its always enjoyable for me to sort through the spreadsheet and compare drivers in different makes of cars.
