You can drift if you set your car up for it and just do an online race and drift around. If you just do a race you can drift but other people will propably race around the track rather than drift and you will lose, but who cares as long as you are having fun right? You will not get points for drifting like in the arcade mode.
I did an online race one time and everyone was drifting together, and sticking together in a pack so it was like tandem drifting. It was awesome! I think thats what you are looking for. It was just random luck that i happened to end up in that race with those particular people.
Maybe you could set up an event in these forums for drifting.
The drifting event through arcade is online as in your score is posted on the interet but you do it solo.
