This is a unique car built by genius engineer Nic Mann for the UK unlimited hillclimb class on a budget of just £10,000. It features a 1700cc Ford engine, but the turbo is not driven by the engine exhaust gases - it is spun by a miniature gas turbine (a helicopter APU / starter motor) so that it produces maximum boost regardless of engine revs.

This car holds the Shelsley Walsh unlimited hillclimb record and I would like to drive it in a GT game at Eiger Nordwand, Matterhorn Goodwood etc.

In the youtube clip Nic gives it the berries at Gurston Down!

Saw that beasty in action at Shelsely Walsh last year, it's umcredible! Have a click!

The Mannic Beattie has been extensively reworked since the clip at the start of this thread. It holds the hill climb record at both Gurston Down and Shelsley Walsh.

The car has been fitted with a larger gas turbine to spin the turbo which feeds the petrol engine. The gas turbine exhaust has been routed through an F1 style hot diffuser.

Engine bay shots showing four cylinder 1700cc engine gas turbine spun turbo and four wheel drive system (from a Ford Sierra!)

There are more details on this incredible car from this link and website (speedhillclimb.com):

I found a clip which shows the car in it's current configuration with hot diffuser and enlarged gas turbine, which as stated by corrupteddisc is capable of spinning the turbo fast enough to provide up to 60psi boost to the 1700cc Ford engine at all engine speeds!

I work with Nic, he's a very nice guy, quite quiet and unassuming you wouldn't think under that mild mannered exterior beats the heart of lunatic speed demon. (at the moment we've got one of his drive shafts in our machine shop to work on when it's quiet)

Thanks for posting jayfinch - it's nice to hear from someone who has had contact with Nic. I have been a fan of his work since first reading about his Morris Minor many years ago. It would be great if the game could feature his car - the recognition would be well deserved by Nic for his amazing acheivements as an Engineer and driver in UK motorsports.
