New slim PS2, playing imported games...?

Is there any swap discs or anything instead of a mod chip that allows one to play, say a Japanese game on a U.S. V12 PS2 (or PSTwo, what ever it's called)?

Once you open your PS2 you void your warranty, but most people don't care anyways

And the whole thing about modchips being legal or illegal depends on where you live. In some countries it's illegal it even buy/sell a mochip, but in others they don't care what you do It's the idea of playing pirated games that the government cares more about.

EDIT: It seems there are several reliable working fixes for the new slim PS2s! There are problems with certain batches where the PS2 would die after long use, but now it seems like there's a few good working solutions.
