Built in the South of France to address many of the concerns of racing in the 1960's (safety, professionalism, ease of access, winter testing, etc.) Paul Ricard was considered boring and stale originally, but compared to modern designs it has a bite. First, the incredibly long main straight followed by a 5th gear sweeper into a hairpin. This is followed by a tight technical section leading into sweeping corners before and after start/finish. It's not bad.
View of the track looking down the long main straight towards Le Signe, the straight has been chicaned for safety. Luckily, safety is not such a big issue in GranTurismo. Ayrton Senna had a big accident when his Renault engine lost its lubrication on the rear wheels of his Lotus at the end of the straight.
The circuit has very little elevation change so was modeled using Eifel Flat. Lots of curbing everywhere to represent the zany lines on the asphalt runoff areas of the modern version.
The track was purchased by Bernie Ecclestone in the 90's and converted into a test track. It now hosts Blancpain GT races and other international events. There has even been talk of a return of F1 racing...
For fun in GT6, take Senna's Lotus Renault out on the track and see if you can beat his 2nd place qualifying time for the 1985 race of 1:32.835. Keke Rosberg won pole position at 1:32.462.
This is the 3rd French GP track released in this series with the thought of creating a French national championship series online.
