Paul Ricard, it could be said, was the first circuit purposely built to incorporate two concerns paramount in modern motorsport: safety and commercialization.
It was completely surrounded by then state-of-the-art Armco barriers with more run off area than comparable tracks. It was also built for winter testing and housed a modern hotel right at the track and was built with an adjacent airport, considerations that made it much more commercially modern than similar tracks of the era.
In 1985 Nigel Mansell broke the record for the highest speed crash ever in F1 at Le Signes, missing the race with a concussion suffered in practice. In 1986, Ayrton Senna also had a big accident at Le Signes, the fast corner following the main straight. This corner alone and the overall high speed nature of the track, show how different the view of safety was back in the deadliest era of racing. In GT6 this will be a real grit your teeth challenge in Senna's 1985 Lotus 97T, the car he put second on the grid here.
Since the real track has very little elevation change, I felt confident using the overlay method in the Eifel Flat map. The track is within feet of being an exact replica of this historically significant circuit.
