Which le mans

  • long Mulsane straight (1980s)

now that we have the nurburgring which no one expected, we might get le mans as well but which version would people prefer.
The one with the long mulsanne straight with no chicane at the dunlop bridge 1980s or the modern one with 2 chicanes down the mulsanne and one at dunlop bridge.
 
I'd prefere the long strait....

More top speed gaining and excitement
 
the 2 chicanes..the 2 trademark high degree left handers were always my favorite thing at the Nur
 
well, it has to be the one with the two chicanes. pd cant go back in time and get the long straight version, as that doesn't exist anymore
 
yeah buts like saying pd cant go back in time and have old cars
 
It'd be dumb to have the old one because then what are you going to do, just limit the use of the track to cars built in the 1980s and prior?

Not only that but the track has been modified multiple times from the 60s to now in areas other then the Mulsannes Straight.
 
the nurburgring is an old track that has almost no racees on it now but is included in the game and iam sure every car will be able to race on it. its like a toyota gt one wad desgined for the ring either was it. are you saying the only cars alowed on the ring are pre 80s as well.

seriously I dont want Le Mans in GT-games unless they dont have more then 10 cars on track...its really boring,looks like Im the only one who seems to realize that...
 
with the long straing over 2 miles long think of the slipstreaming battels. espescily online
 
In GT3 during a endurance was boring. Why? Beacuse the AI sucked , and I hope they are going to improve it in GT4. 6 cars is enough , only if the AI is good ;)

yes true!..but still if the AI rules it still wont be fun because the track is like huge man!
 
Did I read that right? Not many races on Nurburgring? Try again. People leave that course in emergency vehicles almost weekly. Not to mention the yearly F1 race there.
 
I just bought the Le Mans Steve McQueen movie. It's one of the few movies in which the cars have more dialogue than the actors.

The point of this is that it has a fair display of the track from the early '70s era. Unfortunately for this discussion, the camera was pointing more at the cars than the track. I think it has the one chicane.

He's talking about the Nurburgring Nordschleife which has very few races held there now, most of the time it's left open to the public, and there are no F1 races at the Ring only the much shorter Nurburgring track.
 
I'm in favor of the chicaned, new version.

Anything that makes a track more technical while still preserving straights that are still long enough is good in my book.
 
On the subject in discussion, I would rather the two chicanes because a 2 mile straight is a lot longerthan the straights at the test course, so you will be bored and resort to finger on accelerate and mind on other things till the corner comes into view. At least the chicanes give you something to do on the straight.

I say any layout prior to 2002 would be dumb since exactly what era would you even choose? Not only that but regardless of what era you choose, using modern cars on the older track layout would be foolish.
 
I picked the first anyways endurance racing at nurburgring.
Think about it man this would be great sitting on you couch or whatever and playing GT4 with a toyota Gt1 or any other car at the famous nurburgring! Dream come true!
 
And If they did have the old le mans track, just imagine how funny it'd be to see a toyota GTone flip on that infamous hump on the mulsanne straight.
 
I think Le Mans over the years would be good, I don't mean every little change, but perhaps as it was in 1923, then perhaps the 50's, late 60's, 80's and 2004.
 
haha, way too much modelling there. One version will suffice.

I've actually reconsidered during the course of this thread, because as noted, the changes to the circuit don't just affect the Hunaudieres straight but also numerous other aspects of the course. So I say go with the most recent one, racing around Le Mans will still be every bit as exciting with good opposition.

Oh and btw, that infamous crest a few hundred metres before the Mulsanne hairpin is being flattened gradually.

There are still big races at the Nordschleife, like the 1000km endurance in the new Le Mans Enduro Series (LMES) and German Enduro races. It's a great track for Endurance races, you don't get bored so fast with turning the same laps over and over ... :lol:
 
There is still the famosu 24 Hours of Nurburgring that the Zakspeed Viper has owned for a few years now...

The races might be big but there isn't many of them compared to other circuits. But your right, if you had a choice of a 2 hour enduro at Rome or 2 hours at the Ring you would pick the ring if you were sane.

i dont like that hump...it nearly killed mark webber in the 1998 le mans when he was racing for mercedes. due to an aero fault with the car...mark went into mid-air and fliped it twice before landing off the track. surprisingly, no injuries, which is more than remarkable


oh yeah...i take the newer le mans...how boring would that massive straight be
 
Webber flipped twice there during that meeting, during the practice sessions I think, and the other Merc flipped once. The humps have been flattened out since then though.
The straights are long enough as they are now in my opinion, The new course would be fine.

Thats a great movie. Much better than the recent attempts at motorsport movies like Days of Thunder and Driven.

Although the acting is wooden to say the least. But still an abosolute classic.

I'd like to point out here that a lot of you are saying that having teh whole mulsanne without the chicanes would be boring.........umm think of the back straight of the Nordschliffe?! That's long enough as well....... So it's not really going to mkae much differance whether you have another circuit with a straight over a mile long at least. Although I'd prefer the pre 2002 circuit. I hate the new esses they put after hte dunlop bridge. Why they needed to change them I don't know :irked: , but esh...

BTW 359 please elaborate on 'using modern cars on the older track would be foolish'. What do you mean older track as in 80's older or pre 2002 older? Foolish yes on like the 60's track but maybe not so on mid 90's/80's track.......

So the pre 2002 track for me please.
 
Surely being a game, you could have every version in, with minimal programmiing time.

I'm no expert of Le Mans, only of playing it in LM 24 Hours on the Dreamcast, but the changes to the track have been minimal compared to its length.

I'd personally like the straight without chicanes. Try some slipstreaming. They were only put in for safety reasons. We're playing a game, we can hit a wall at 200MPH, and not get a scratch, only a severe rumble. ;)

I want a proper track that the cars can hit top speed on.
 
Although I would prefer the longer sraight, it would present some gear ratio choice problems. Would you go for the longest possible gears to get top speed on the straight? Or would you shorten them to get around the more technical part of the track?
