Well, first off, this is my first post. I'm looking into buying a truck. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Price Range: up to 20 grand (flexible)

Ideal Mileage: Under 30k

Ideal Year: +2001

I have been looking at a few trucks in piticular, and was wondering if anyone around here has had any experience with these trucks. I am looking for a fairly larger truck, that seats 4 (comfortably or uncomfortably), and has power windows (this will be my third car, and both the predecesores had manual windows and locks. I am not getting a truck because I need a truck. I am buying a truck because I want one. So as far as engine size and tourque goes, I could honestly care less. I also recieve free gas from my company so MPG isn't much of a big deal

At the begining of my journey I was attracted to a Silverado. 2000-2002. I am not a fan of the +2003 Front end. Anyway, used ones range vastly depending on options and mileage. I was just curious about ride quality, reliablility, etc.

Another Truck which almost is a mirror image of the Silverado, is the GMC Seirra. Also a very attractive truck in my eyes, just curious if anyones delt with this truck first hand.

And a Third truck I was looking really into was a new Ram. The Quad Cab, preferably with the sports package. Anybody familiar with these trucks?

Well those are the three trucks I was looking at. Intrested if anyone has any info at all. Also very open to new ideas. Opinions anyone?

Have you looked at the new F-150? The Lariat version has a gorgeous interior, although I think it's around $32k (don't quote me on that though). Have you taken a look at the new Titan?

You've pretty much got it covered considering your conditions. You clearly want a large truck, you're right to not check out Ford (outdated!), Toyota's too expensive, and so you checked out Dodge, GMC, and Chevrolet. Mechanically they should all be equal to each other (very good reliably) so in the end it comes down to what sort of deal you can get and which you like best. So which is it?

Sage, he's only got $20000.

Thank You very much for the replies. :)

In my recent car shopping adventures I've run across what seem to be good deals. However, I, being young and nieve beleive any truck that has a low price tag is a good deal. I'm sure there has to be a little more that goes into the price tag than just how good everything looks.

Well just a few days ago I drove close to 2 hours away from town to take a look at a Dodge I saw for sale in a catalog. Unfortunately upon arrival I was shocked to find out it was sold the day before. Bummer. But all hope was not lost. I noticed on the way into town a rather large dodge dealership. I walked in the used car parking lot. And there was a 2002 Dodge Quad Cab 1500 with the Sport package with a sticker of only $17,900. Black, loved the grill, looked flawless.

And about a week before that I ran into a very nice Silver Silverado Ext Cab. I believe it was a 2001. Had 35k miles, came with a tonneau bed cover. All options, except for leather. And the price was 16,250 (o.b.o.)

I have yet to run across any Seirra's that really tickle my fancy. They all seem to be a bit on the expensive side, and I just don't see why? Any idea's why I'm running into this problem? Is there a reason the GMC's are more expensive?

Oh and out of the two sales I ran into, which would you do personally?

Thanks Guys in Advance

GMC is attempting to position the brand as an upscale alternative to Chevrolet trucks. The Canyon, Envoy, Sierra, and Yukon are all supposed to be upscale alternatives (to the Colorado, Trailblazer, Silverado, and Tahoe/Suburban). We haven't seen it reflected very much in resale value yet - Envoys do sell higher than comparable Trailblazers and Sierras do sell higher than comparable Silverados, but Yukons are on the margin (particularly Yukon XLs, though the Yukon Denali sells for a much higher percentage used than the Tahoe/Suburban Z71 when new) and Canyons seem to be going slightly cheaper than Colorados, probably due to Chevrolet's more aggressive ad campaign; I'd bet anything that turns itself around.

Anyway, your deals - the Dodge seems to be a great deal; the Sport Package is only available on the SLT meaning that you've at least got a CD player, keyless entry, heated power mirrors, power windows, and power locks. The deal seems a bit too good, though - is it 4wd? How many miles?

The Silverado is okay, but older than the Dodge with less doors.

eh, screw dodge. Go with a Chevy. And GMC appears to mirror Chevy, because, well, they are the same vehicles with cosetic differences. The chevy sounds like a good deal. To me, personally, Chevy Trucks are the only trucks that still look like trucks. Straight sides, flat grilles, nothing of the wall(dodge) and not covered in loads of chromed plastic (nissan). I would tell you get a Toyota, but they are pricy, for a reason ;). Go with a 2001-2002 Chevy V8 silverado. Does 4x4 matter to you? cause that makes a pretty big price change.

PS. could you use normal font size please, thanks.

Oops. I've told you about my half-blind right eye, right? I read it as Price Range: Under 30k, so yeah.

Carry one, carry on!

Have you looked at the Canyon? It's called the Colorado here, so yeah.

The 2-Door model will cost you around MSRP $16,660 - $22,595.

The Canyon Extended Cab will be around MSRP $19,005 - $25,250.

But the Canyon Crew Cab will be a tad over your limit at MSRP $21,245 - $28,635.

It's still one of the cheapest Crew Cab's I know of.

👍 I'd go for the 2-door model, get some nice features along with it.

He seems to want a full-size truck, sUn.

And, 87chevy, your recommendation of Chevrolet seems to be based purely on the fact that you prefer the styling of the Silverado to competitors' styling.

uh....so?

No, chevy's are also pretty darn reliable nowadays. a guy I work with bought a new 2001 2500 Silverado with all the trimmings and hasn't had a problem with it since. He's towed 32ft camper trailers with that thing. Now he has upgraded to a 5th wheel trailer (due to an unfortunate accident on a NorthCarolina highway with the old hitch style trailer :ouch: ) He has the 6.1L V8 in his and it's powerful enough for what he needs. If you need more power, just add a air-intake kit and a chip/programer. And besides, nothing beats the sound of a Chevy V8!*

*(with proper headers and exhuast, not some cheap cat back 1toDual exhaust)

The Colorado is by far one of the worse trucks ever produced, I have to work on them 10 hours a day. It completly sucks. Don't ever think about buying one.

A Silverado would be a better buy. But I'll let others give you the opinions since I'm a GM employee so there fore I'm bias.

Whoa, I come back a few hours later and I have plenty of replies! Awesome! You guys really know how to make someone feel accepted. Thank You.

M5Power, Unfortunately the dealership was closed. So mileage and history are a mystery. However as I mentioned previously I accidently bumped into this dealership on my way to check out a truck which was sold. The truck which was sold was a 2003 Dodge Quad 1500 with 4x4, Sports Package, and 18,000 miles. But it was the 5.9L (that's all the catalog read) which would either make it the diesel or a typo by the catalog editors (The 5.7L is the hemi). It was for sale for $19,900. With this new truck I accidently bumped into being 2 grand cheaper, I would imagine mileage wouldn't be too far away. However, this is just an estimate. 4wd? No clue. But either way, if the mileage is fairly low..seems like a deal I might not be able to pass up.

And for future reference, 4 wd would be a great plus for any truck I was looking at. But only as a comfort, I really have no need for 4wd. It would just be safer in the winter.

Let me clarify what I'm looking for. A full sized pick up. Seat Four people. Bigger the better. I am buying a truck...well...because I can. I, in all honesty, have no reason to buy a truck. I just like how they look. Engine size really doesn't matter much, but I don't want something terribly under powered. If there is anything I am going to do with this truck that I can't already do with my car, it would be off roading. A few of my buddies occasionally off road their trucks, and I'd like to join the fun. As well as having a nice looking truck that will get me from point A to point B in style.

Basically I'm just curious if anybody here knows how certain trucks drive. I can determine which truck I find more attractive ;). but looks aren't everything. I want a truck that provides a pretty good ride quality. Anybody drive any of these trucks before?

EDIT: Oh, and the Colorado? Thank you for looking up prices for me, I greatly appreciate the time and effort you put in helping me. but They are a bit smaller than what I'm looking for.
