I have a 1990 GEO Tracker.

Stats:
200k Miles
1.3 L I4
5 Speed
4x4
No power stearing
28 mpg
No Cassette or CD (Can't here radio over the road/wind noise anyway)
Hard top
Blue

Horror stories:
I was driving along one day, going 60, one of the front hubs gave out and the tire cocked out the the right and nearly put me in the ditch and rolled me.

The drivers door got bent down one day when I slipped on the ice getting out and no longer closes right ot all the way.

The front hubs froze in the free position one night and I was unable to get it into 4x4 for a week.

It has been rolled onto its side 3 time in the snow.

On the up side:
It has not failed to start yet.

It has really good gas milage.

It goes through more snow then you think it would.

It is kinda fun to drive in snow because when you hit a drift it bucks like a boat hitting a wave.

I don't have a Geo, but boy this car is sexy, isn't it?

Best handling Storm in existance.

Stats:

-125k miles
-1.0L I3
-5 speed Manual
-No power steering (Geo doesn't believe in power steering)
-40 mpg
-replaced radio with CD player
-Dark, Dark, Dark (almost black) Purple, with Yellow racing stipe up and over passenger side. :sly: hey i try

Horror Stories:

-I was on a dirt road and there was a blind fork in the road up ahead, i thought one part of it slightly turn and the other turn sharply, well the slight turn was a bit more sharper then what i had thought. I was doing about 30 MPH and just drove striaght, jumping over a ditch and into a field. lucky to say nothing seriously bad happened and i kept driving.

-I was travling down a mountain from the ski resort(in the summer). the road i was on is very curvey. And i was racing my friends to the bottom. Well i was going a little too fast for one sharp corner and the tail end of my car kicked out and was basically drifting around the middle of the corner. Well that drift didnt last long and the car slid into the inside of the corner then i cut the wheel back and slid back into the middle of the road. While i was off the inside of the corner i had managed to hit the curbing of the road and popped the air out of my right front tire and bent the rim. I just recently got the rim changed. I was extremly lucky to escape this mishap because the outside of the road drops down into a heavily wooded area. It would've looked like WRC action.

-I've also had some close calls in the snow as well but im not going to go into all the details.

On The Up Side:

-The gas mileage

-Runs decent, minus the spark plug crossthreading mention in another discution.

-I've rapped the needle (going down hill on the interstate of course) which is around 100 Mph. Thats fun in a Metro. It feels like your going twice as fast :dopey:

-and yes Slimer90210, it deos go through more snow then you'd think.

-and most of all killing all my friends cars in the sharp corners. Geo be nimble, Geo be quick, slap it in fifth on that manual stick. Wow im sorry about that last part. :ouch:

leenis24, I welcome you to the GEO brotherhood...

Wow, and I thought the Mini club was a long shot!

As did I untill I started the Brotherhood....

GEO build up project.

OK so my friend Randal finally got a new truck (95 Chevy W/T) and he, our other friend Paul and I are starting to build up his GEO Metro for drag racing. We already have the car stripped and are trying to deside what way to go with the project.

Our 3 options:
Keep the car FWD and drop in the engine/drive train from Del Sol (1.8 L v-tec) that Randal's little sister got rearended in, and go from there.

Convert the car to RWD and use the 3.8L turbo out Paul's Buick Regal and the rear axle out of the 91 Tracker I bought as a beater and blew the engine.

Conver the car to AWD using the front and rear axle/suspention from the 91 Tracker and mount the Del Sol's v-Tec/tranny so it will drive both axles and go from there.

I personally want to do the AWD version, because I think an AWD Metro would be cool and it would launch off the line, Randal is with me. Paul Wants to go for the RWD because we wants the car to tail stand on the line.

So which would you like to see?

Voting update:
FWD: 0
RWD: 3
AWD: 2

Voters: leenis24, miniMADness, Paul, Randal, and myself

Project Update:
Feb 5&6:
We decided to go with the RWD using the Buick 3.8 Turbo.

We started to make the mods to the chassis. So far these mods inlude:
Cutting down the Tracker frame to fit under the Metro.
Welded the Tracker frame into the Metro uni-body.

Feb 12&13:
We got side tracked working on Rashad's (another of our friends) 62 Nova, he got the rear clip and Axel housing from Art Morrison. We installed that, made subframe connectors and started bending the roll cage, so the Metro got pushed to the back burner.

Feb 19&20:
We finished the cage on Rashad's Nova Friday night and went back to the Metro. Rashad donated the old rear axle from his Nova to the Metro Project so now we have a GM 12-Bolt with a locker and 4.10 gears to use. So we took the 'new' axel to the local machine shop to have it cut down to fit under the Nova. We desided to scrape the single Arm/strut combo in favor of a double wishbone setup so we went to the local junk yard, which Randal's dad happens to own, and took the front A-arms and mounts off of a '86 Vette that had been rear ended quite severly and started trying to figure out how and where we needed to mount them to the Metro's frame.

Feb 26&27:
We did not get as much done this weekend as we had hoped because my truck came back from the stripper and we ended up working on it and Rashads Nova most of the time. The only thing we did for the GEO was find and mount coil-overs for the rear end.

March 12&13:
Well Randal is running low on cash so we are shelving the GEO project for now while he goes back to working OT on weekends so he can afford to finish it. On the up side we finished sheeting the rear clip welded the roll cage in permanently on Rashad's Nova. We also started measurments for the 4-link suspention I have planned for my truck.

👍 Add a blow off valve and confuse the hell out of everyone!

Blasphemy.

Why don't you and your friend find an Impulse RS and pull the motor and use that for the AWD conversion. Or get the motor from a Suzuki Swift and build it up, it'll pretty much drop right in.

This would be sweet. 3.8l turbo, and a 2000 pound car after gutted, fast. Good luck fiting that motor in the engine bay. I have a metro so i know how small the compartment is. If you do decide to go with this option, i hope it works for you.

Please take some picks of the process if possible, i would love to see it.

The G13B, out of the Suzuki Swift GTi would fit right in. The trouble is finding one. The engines are known for their reliablity and high revs.

The question - Why don't we find an Impulse or a Swift engine?

The answer - We are college students which means we have very little money.
We already have the del Sol and the Buick engine.
And like mini said...

Oh and it is only blasphemy if it looses....

Drop a small block in it. After all, the Metro WAS sold as a Chevy!

Just drop the backseats, move the driver back (better weight balance, too), and move the firewall towards the rear to make room in the bay. Extend the steering linkage, no P/S makes that easier, build a cluster with basic Auto Meter stuff, and put in a cheap racing seat.

And take down muscle in a car with as much power, the same drivetrain, and half the weight.

We had thought of that but we could not get a good SB cheap enough... remember the Buick V6 and the del Sol were free. If we could have gotten a SB there would be no doubt what we would do.

As it stands we have started to make the mods needed to make the car RWD and use the Buick 3.8 Turbo...

Make sure you take plenty of pics during your build-up!

Pics with what? We don't own a camera and we are too damn cheap to buy one and even if we bought one it probably woundn't be digital. We are definatly NOT tech-nerds, I am the only one with a computer and the only reason I have one is because the college I go to gives each student a laptop to use while they attend.

I will see if I can borrow a camera from soneone but people do not like leandingus exspensive, breakable Items... we have a history of not being to good for them...

Drifting Thunda
I like the Geo Storm does that count? But it looks more than a lot like a '93-'97 Camaro!

And yes liking a GEO counts.

Well I had the misfortune of driving a Suzuki Swift a few years back, which we all know was re-badged as a GEO. It was purple and my girlfriend at the time insisted on putting cow-print seat covers in it. every time I got in the driver's seat I could feel my genitals shrinking. It was the most emasculating car I have ever driven.

That would qualify for entry into the Brotherhood. Different bandging or not its still a GEO at heart...

Meh, dont worry about it.

Thank you for compiling a list of people I can now make fun of.

I'm just kidding, I own a saturn now, so I don't think I'm much higher than a geo in the food chain.

miniMADness
Was your GEO your daily driver?

I still use my 90 GEO Tracker as my daily driver. The 91 I bought and blew up was a total pile and I bought it just to beat it up off road. My 90 just keeps running...

No problem I make fun of my car all the time.

I don't know how much higher Saturns are on the car-food-chain but they are at least 2 steps up....

I dont know. Im not to fond of saturns. I'd rather drive a Geo i think. Everyone i know seems to think that only gay men or girls drive saturns. Just my take on it.

i make fun of my car all the time to, because it is a piece of junk but i still love to drive it. :dopey:

I don't drive a saturn by choice, my parents dictated that either I got this car(it was owned by my aunt and uncle) or we wait a year to look for another. I wish I had waited.

Did you have to pay for the car? Because most any car you get for free is a good deal.

I borrowed my Mother-in-law's Storm (1992 with only aobut 70,000 miles) for about a year whilst waiting for a new car to pop up on the horizon.
Thank God for the Ford Ranger I now drive.
This POS has an automatic, that leaks trans fluid like a sieve. It shifts hard and none too quickly. It's more uncomfortable than any car I've ever driven. For a time it had no muffler, and that was truly exruciating on the then 34 mile drive to work and worse on the 34 mile drive home.
It would make 70 mph, but that had the tach at 4,000 RPM. It only got 28 mpg. I say only becauce we also have an inherited 99 Geo/Chevy Metro. It has the 5-speed with the annoying shift light, that causes you to short shift by about 3,000 rpm. However, if you shift with the light or before it MPG hovers well into the high 30's/low 40's.
Of course at this point I only drive it when it needs gas or repairs.

I will abstain from membership. But I have a story or two about the Geo's. Perhaps I will tell some of them some other time.
