As some of you may or may not know, I'm a bit of an endurance nut. As I A-spec my way through the endurance races, I'll be posting in here with results, opponents, tyre strategies and the like to help other people plan what they can do to push the limits of A-spec points or sheer speed. I'll list the Endurances in the order they appear in Endurance Hall, as I do them...

You can find a list of the races and opponents in this first post, while the write-ups themselves will be located in subsequent posts.

Yep. Have a quick glance at my signature... :D

I won't be doing them just once either. I aim to build up a picture of typical opponents, with lap times, finish times and pit schedules to give people an idea of what is required to win each race.

Tokyo 300

Player car: Mazda RX-8 LM '01, 508hp. Using R2 (Racing Hard) tyres, because I couldn't be bothered buying any new ones, I pitted once every 10 laps, using roughly 28 fuel units per stint.

Opponents:
AI 1: RX-8 LM – Pitted at end of laps 22, 44. Finished 1 lap behind.
AI 2: Nissan Fairlady Z – Pitted at end of laps 27, 54. Finished 2 laps behind.
AI 3: au Cerumo Supra – Pitted at end of laps 26, 52. Finished 2 laps behind.
AI 4: Pennzoil Skyline R34 – Pitted at end of laps 27, 54. Finished 3 laps behind.
AI 5: Opel Calibra – Pitted at end of laps 24, 48. Finished 4 laps behind.

My final finish time was 1hr 39'53.692, with a fastest lap of 1'34.735. I was awarded 10 A-Spec points.

About as complex as sleeping.

As a fellow "endurance nut," I applaud your efforts. I've held off racing a few endurance events because I haven't found the right car that will give me enough of a challenge. All the endurance races I've done so far have been walkovers.

Without trying to sound like a broken record, it's great to read a write-up from someone who's not using a Formula One car or the Minolta Toyota to win an endurance race. It can be done, people.

I look forward to reading more of your race reports. Keep up the great work.

I'm currently doing the Tsubuka 9h enduro with a Lancer Evo GSR MR, pretty close racing!

The car is stock, 77 Aspec Pts, good race up to this date.

Just realised I'd missed that off as I was updating. Can't remember how many points I got for RX-8/Tokyo, but I'll check my file and update later.

Player car: Mazda RX-8 LM '01, 508hp. Using R2 (Racing Hard) tyres, because I couldn't be bothered changing from the Tokyo race. However, these gave an unsatisfactory ideal pit schedule of 8 laps. I pitted on laps 10, 21, 30 and 42, changing to R1 (Racing Super Hard) tyres for the front to do the longer 11/12 lap stints and back to R2 (Racing Hard) tyres all round for shorter 8/9 lap dashes. On the longer sections I used about 32 fuel units per stint, with 26-28 for the shorter ones.

Opponents:
AI 1: RX-7 LM – Pitted at end of laps 15, 30, 45. Finished 1 lap behind.
AI 2: au Cerumo Supra – Pitted at end of laps 14, 28, 42, 56. Finished 2 laps behind.
AI 3: Pennzoil Skyline R34 – Pitted at end of laps 14, 28, 42, 56. Finished 2 laps behind.
AI 4: Mobil 1 NSX – Pitted at end of laps 12, 24, 36, 48. Finished 3 laps behind.
AI 5: Opel Calibra – Pitted at end of laps 11, 22, 33, 44, 55. Finished 4 laps behind.

My final finish time was 1hr 54'01.625, with a fastest lap of 1'47.447. I was awarded 10 A-Spec points.

A relatively uncomplicated race, as one might expect from the points awarded. None of the AI posed significant threat at any point. The most worrying factor was sorting out my pit schedule, but taking care of the tyres for two laps sorted that out - although I was down to 2 fuel units at one point. I came out of the pits for the first time in the lead and never looked back.

Player car: Mazda MX-5 1.8RS '98, 145hp. Using S2 (Sports Medium) tyres I pitted once every 30 minutes (about 25 laps), using roughly 15 fuel units per stint.

Opponents:
AI 1: MX-5 1800RS – Pitted at end of every 35th lap. Finished 2 laps behind.
AI 2: MX-5 SR-Limited – Pitted at end of every 41st lap. Finished 7 laps behind.
AI 3: MX-5 1.8RS – Pitted at end of every 41st lap. Finished 7 laps behind.
AI 4: MX-5 S-Special – Pitted at end of every 42nd lap. Finished 8 laps behind.
AI 5: MX-5 VR-Limited – Pitted at end of every 45th lap. Finished 9 laps behind.

My final finish time was 4hr 00'00.780 (no - I was trying to start a 201st lap but ran wide in the last corner pushing too hard), for 200 completed laps. Fastest lap was 1'09.752. I was awarded 52 A-Spec points.

This one was unusual. The 1800RS starts off in fifth and will slowly cut through the pack to third, then sit right up behind second until lap 17. Then he went nuts. His average lap was around 1'12.000 when not behind traffic. When he encountered traffic, it'd take about two laps to pass it, then he'd get back on the pace again.

Player car: Nissan R89C '89, 968hp. Using R1 (Racing Super Hard) tyres I pitted once every 33/4 laps using roughly 55 fuel units per stint.

Opponents:
AI 1: Nissan R92CP - Pitted at the end of every 30th lap. Finished 3 laps behind.
AI 2: Nissan R89C - Pitted at the end of every 30th lap. Finished 3 laps behind.
AI 3: Audi R8 - Pitted at the end of every 40th lap. Finished 4 laps behind.
AI 4: Pescarolo Courage C60 - Pitted on unknown schedule, possibly 40-45 laps. Finished 5 laps behind.
AI 5: Chevrolet Camaro LM – Pitted on an unknown schedule. Finished 19 laps behind.

My final finish time was 50'18.029. Fastest lap was 0'28.677. I was awarded 7 A-Spec points.

Totally uncomplicated. I DID think I could escape without pitting, but then I realised I was running out of fuel so HAD to pit. And then this sort of thing started happening every bend:

faminer89cdrift.jpg

Yes, that's a 180mph drift. Yes, I've mopped the floor now. So I ducked into the pits at the end of lap 35, topped up to 60/80 fuel and got some new tyres.

I couldn't ascertain the Camaro's pit schedule, because I was lapping him too much. I lost count of the Pescarolo's laps, but I've got the replay so may watch it to see what he does. He certainly didn't pit before his lap 40.

*Edit: I've been PMed - apparently the Camaro pits ONCE. On lap 54!

Thank you Famine :D I've been wanting something like this to go by so I don't kill all competition. Keep it up.

I'm going to reorganise this thread a little bit. I'll put each new account in a new post and leave the first post as a chronicle of AI opponents, pit schedules and likely finish times. This will take a little time, so please bear with me. For now though, heeeeeeeeeere's Laguna!

Laguna Seca 200
Player: Cadillac Cien
AI 1: Saleen S7 – Pitted at end of lap 21, 43, 65, 87. Finished +1 lap (2h19’17.374 +1)
AI 2: Shelby Series One – Pitted at end of lap 17, 34, 51, 68. Finished +2 laps
AI 3: Ford GT ’05 – Pitted at end of lap 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84. Finished +2laps (2h19’05.817 +2)
AI 4: Chevrolet Camaro SS ’00 – Pitted at end of lap 15, 30, 45, 60, 75. Finished +7laps
AI 5: Pontiac GTO 5.7 – Pitted at end of lap 15, 30, 45, 60, 75. Finished +7laps

I started on S3 tyres. I pitted at end of lap 9 (55/80 fuel) and changed to S2 tyres, since the S3s were wearing too fast - lost the lead. I pitted again at the end of lap 21, 7s behind leader who also pitted (22/80 fuel – filled to 37/80). Regained lead on lap 24. Another pit on lap 34 (1/80 fuel – filled to 40/80). Lost lead (again). Regained lead on lap 39. Pitted again on lap 48 (3/80 fuel – filled to 41/80). Pitted on lap 63 (1/80 fuel – filled to 45/80). Pitted on lap 77 (6/80 fuel – filled to 45/80).

Each pitstop cost roughly 36s

My fastest lap was 1’27.888, with a final race time of 2:19’02.710.

This is the killer...

Player car: Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti '93 (25 points)
AI 1: BMW M3 GTR Race Car - Pits at the end of every 5th lap
AI 2: Opel Calibra Touring Car - Pits at the end of every 5th lap
AI 3: Mercedes 190E Touring Car - Pits at the end of every 6th lap
AI 4: Razo Silvia - Pits at the end of every 6th lap
AI 5: Spoon S2000 Race Car - Pits at the end of every 8th lap

I started off on R1/R1 tyres, but it became apparent that the rears weren't wearing as fast, so switched to R1/R2 at my first stop.

Hour 1
Getting used to this car on this track... The first four cars passed with ease. The Calibra and M3 were trickier. A few "offs" didn't help matters either. I pitted on lap 4, with gas at 40/80 and left 15s down on the M3. When he pitted on the next lap I took the lead back again and, by the time I'd pitted on lap 8 had built up enough of a lead to leave the pits in 1st. Interesting 8th lap though - as I realised that I'd used 40 fuel units in the first 4 and not filled up again... When I hit the pits, I had ONE left. Topped up to 55/80 and left 5s before the end of the hour, 50s up on the M3. Still managed to lap the S2000 in this stint though.

Hour 2
Into the groove now. Pitting every 4 laps and taking on gas up to 45/80 built up a nice rhythm. I lapped the Silvia on lap 12, but he unlapped himself as I pitted. Caught and passed him again before the Karussell, then took the S2000 again on lap 15. A new fastest lap turned up - 7'09.076 - and the 2nd hour marker passed well over 1'30 into lap 17. With this pace I should be able to complete 195 laps before I cross the line...

Hour 3
Keeping the same pit routine, and the car and I are really settling with each other now. By the time the BMW and I both pit on Lap 20 I'm now over 2 minutes up on him. I lap the S2000 (again) on lap 21, then the Silvia on lap 22 and the Mercedes 190E on lap 23... On lap 22 I was really booking, and clocked a 7'07.015...! As the hour closes out - nearly 3 minutes into lap 25 - I'm a full 3 minutes up on the BMW and accelerating...

Hour 4
The miles keep on running by. Time briefly punctuated by a pair of lappings - the S2000 on lap 28 and the Calibra on lap 27 (although he unlapped himself when I pitted, I got him back on lap 29). 4 hours came and went on my 33rd time through the Angstkurve...

Hour 5
With Lap 33 now completed, and the Silvia again lapped, the PS2 is now on overnight pause. I need my sleep... :D

Lap 34 sees the S2000 lapped again but, other than a couple of pittings, hour 5 is uneventful, and closes with 2 minutes left on lap 41.

Hour 6
Lap 43 sees me almost breaking my lap record - 7'07.098 - swiftly followed by its complete obliteration on Lap 46 as I clock a 7'04.744. Poor old S2000 gets itself lapped twice more - on 42 and 47 - with the Silvia and 190E both dispatched within metres of each other on lap 43. This hour closes out with me at the top of the Dottinger Hohe, 40 seconds from the end of lap 49.

At the quarter-way mark, the field looks like this:
1. Alfa 155 - 48 laps, 6'21
2. M3 GTR Race Car - 48 laps (+6'00)
3. Opel Calibra - 47 laps (+1 lap)
4. Mercedes 190E Touring Car - 46 laps (+2 lap)
5. Nissan C-West Silvia - 45 laps (+3 lap)
6. Spoon S2000 Race Car - 41 laps (+7 lap)

Hour 7
Boy am I tired... :D The 7th hour is just a collection of normal laps, with the lappings of the S2000 again (lap 55), the Silvia again (lap 54) and the Calibra for the second time (lap 53) before, in the very last action of the hour, I finally lap the M3 GTR at the end of lap 57. Lap 58 starts before the 7:00'00.000 comes up, and I'm still on course to complete 195 entire laps and the best part of a 196th before my race is done...

Hour 8
For every bit that Hour 7 was unremarkable, Hour 8 proves extraordinary. Not content with ripping chunks of time from the M3, and lapping the 190 (Lap 62), S2000 again (Lap 62) and Silvia (Lap 63), I turn in two consecutive 7'04 laps, one nudging out the old record by 0.037s, for a 7'04.737 (and the other only 0.011s slower than the old mark). All this combines to put me nearly 2 minutes into lap 66 before the 7 becomes an 8 and I'm into my 9th hour of this race...

Hour 9
Nothing happened.

No, seriously.

Okay, I lapped the S2000 again on 68, he unlapped himself as I pitted and I lapped him back again on lap 69. But that was it. I encountered NO other cars in the entire hour. Couple of ropey laps kicked my average time a bit, but 73 laps down and 2'15 when the 9:00 mark passes. *yawn*

Hour 10
Marginally more interesting - although that wouldn't be hard. Took both the S2000 and the Silvia on lap 75, with the Calibra being lapped in the pits at the end of 78. As Hour 10 passes into Hour 11 I'm at Angstkurve on lap 82 and just about to lap the S2000 again... Did I succeed? You'll have to wait until Hour 11 to find out!

[Cliffhanger]

Hour 11
Well duh!

[/Cliffhanger]

Shortly after that I lapped the Calibra again, then encountered the Silvia at the start of lap 86. Then came lap 87... I'd been playing around with my first two sectors - my best laps had been at 1'19.1 at the end of the second sector, but I felt I could find more time. Lap 87 I zipped through in a 1'17.9 - comfortably the quickest yet. The rest of the lap came together well for an astonishing 7'02.993. Yoinks! The S2000 fell victim again on lap 88 - although unlapped himself briefly as I pitted, but I got him back before T1 on 89.

Fun facts - I've covered roughly 1,250 miles in the 11 hours so far, at an average of just under 114mph. And my oil light isn't on yet...

Hour 12
And so another hour of my life ticks by... Not much of note occurs this hour, although I did manage to lap the Silvia then the S2000 within the same complex on lap 95. At the halfway point I'm 25s from finishing lap 98, and 20s from lapping the BMW again. Time for an update!

1. Alfa 155 - 97 laps, 6'42
2. M3 GTR Race Car - 95 laps (+1 lap)
3. Opel Calibra - 94 laps (+3 laps)
4. Mercedes 190E Touring Car - 93 laps (+4 laps)
5. Nissan C-West Silvia - 92 laps (+5 laps)
6. Spoon S2000 Race Car - 83 laps (+14 lap (!) )

And still no oil light...

Hour 13
Gaining quickly on the M3, I manage to pass both him and the Calibra on lap 100 (lap 100! Woo!). Then I pit and they unlap themselves. Then on lap 101 I lapped all three of the lead AI within a minute of each other. Nice... The rest passes, more-or-less without incident, and hour 13 rolls into hour 14...

Hour 14
Utterly unremarkable, except for an incident near the end. I managed to lap the C-West Silvia while HE was lapping the S2000... 114 laps and 2'29 gone as hour 14 gives way to hour 15... There's now a possibility I could complete 196 laps before the 24 hour gong strikes, meaning I might be able to rack up 197 laps when I cross the finish line...

Hour 15
Dull. Lapped the 190E on Dottinger at the end of lap 120. I pitted, but he followed, so that was fine. Lapped the S2000 again on 122. I DID manage a 7'05 lap on 122 and most of a 7'03.8 lap on 123 (which, of course, ticked over into hour 16. D'oh)...

Hour 16
Quite unremarkable. Had a bit of a 'mare lap, but was balanced with the 7'03.8 from 123, a further 7'03.1 and a couple of 7'05s. Lapped the S2000 (128), Silvia (125) and the Calibra - though I had to have two attempts at that since I pitted (125). Finished the hour halfway through lap 131.

Hour 17
These hours are getting more and more dull by the minute. A few pleasant laps, one ropey one and the carefully executed lapping of the S2000 (135) and Silvia (136) is about all to report here. I DID also lap the M3 for the third time on lap 139, but when I pitted he took the lap back. Swine!

Hour 18
Took the 190E at the end of lap 139 as he pitted (lap 139 saw the 18th hour start, about halfway down the Dottinger), pitted myself on lap 140 which allowed the M3 to unlap himself, then caught him up again in the middle of 142 and re-lapped him... Ho-hum. :D 4 laps of dullness followed, with a brief lapping flurry of the Silvia before Angstkurve on 146 and the Caliibra as he left the pits at the start of 147. The hour finished about 40s into 148...

So, 3/4 distance update!
1. Alfa 155 - 147 laps, 0'40
2. M3 GTR Race Car - 144 laps (+3 lap)
3. Opel Calibra - 142 laps (+5 laps)
4. Mercedes 190E Touring Car - 141 laps (+6 laps)
5. Nissan C-West Silvia - 138 laps (+9 laps)
6. Spoon S2000 Race Car - 128 laps (+19 lap (!) )

2002 miles covered and still no oil light...

Hour 19
Fairly uneventful all round, although some shocking laptimes in there. The S2000 got lapped twice more in this stint (148 & 155), with the Silvia getting it again on 155 as well. 155 laps and 2'30 covered when 19 became 20...

Hour 20
Oh boy am I tired... :D

Another unremarkable hour for seeing things. Lapped the S2000, unsurprisingly, on 161 and the 190E on 158 while he was pitted. However, the tyres for 162/163 were spectacular and I managed a 7'05 backed up with a new record 7'02.014. Wowser... Hour 20 passed with 163 laps down and 3'11 into the 164th...

Hour 21
A few more lappings this time round - the S2000 on 168, the Silvia on 166 and the Calibra on 170. Not an awful lot else happened, although I'm now just a minute behind lapping the M3 for the 4th - and probably final - time...

Hour 22
The first action of the hour saw me take the 190E again on 170, with the Silvia following again again on 175. Then I finally managed to gobble up the M3 on lap 175 - only to have to pit on 176 and watch him come sailing back past again. Buuut never mind. Got him back again on 177 and the hour closed out at lap 179 +6'35.

Hour 23
Not an awful lot of excitement here. The Silvia got lapped again on 186, with the S2000 providing the bread, getting lapped on 181 and 187... Ho hum.... :D

Hour 24
Everyone who's anyone got a good lapping in this hour - the Calibra first on 193, with the S2000 again on 194 and the Silvia and 190E both meeting Mr. Lappy on 195. As the hour closed out I was 1'36 into lap 197, giving me 5 more minutes of driving (and praying for no power cuts)

Hour 25
Yeah. NOT the most exciting - or long - periods of the race.

Final Standings:
1. Alfa 155 - 197 laps (24:05'27.720)
2. M3 GTR Race Car - 193 laps (+4 laps)
3. Opel Calibra - 190 laps (+7 laps)
4. Mercedes 190E Touring Car - 188 laps (+9 laps)
5. Nissan C-West Silvia - 183 laps (+14 laps)
6. Spoon S2000 Race Car - 171 laps (+26 lap (!) )

Hey go for it, i have wondered if some of the ore prolific names in the forum would A-Spec this. I took two sleeps, three days, 4hours then ten the next two days. Hang in there, it wont kill u.

[edit by mod]: Please don't quote ginormous posts.

I'm A-speccing the lot. Unfortunately I work full time and have a house that needs decorating, so this will occupy me until at least Friday.

I have a long weekend coming up soon and will attempt a one-sitting Le Sarthe.

Great work - great thread.

Good car for the El Capitan enduro is the M3 GTR. I ran last night against:
TVR Speed 6
TVR T350C
Shelby Series 1 (only serious competition)
Mercedes-Benz SL 600 (R230) (I think, but possibly CL - he ran last)
I think the last was a Viper.

No hp upgrades used but had all the drivetrain/suspension mods and ran S1s. I pushed the tyres to pit on lap 14, which allows for 4 pit stops in total (13 laps each) but stupidly exited the pits too early without enough fuel on the second stop so had to move to a 5 stop strategy. The Shelby kept up for most of the first 10 laps and also pitted on lap 14 but must have screwed up somewhere because in the end he came over a minute behind in 2nd. Anyway, easy race (the Elise 190 might make for interesting competition) for 200 a-spec points and a nice new 88C-V. There are quite a few 200 point cars for this enduro but I just love those M cars!

Cool Write-Ups, I enjoyed reading them and will enjoy reading future ones.

I've always liked your topics/threads/posts ever since I joined, Famine.

Can I be your official fan-boy? :P

(As far as companions go, I might as well start A-spec'ing these Endurance races alongside you, I only need the two Circuit de la Sarthe races left.)

When I recover from the Nurb, sure... (11th hour just passed... Uuuuuuuuuurgh)

And my oil light isn't on yet...
You're oil light won't go on at all, I think it takes upwards of 6000kms for the oil light to go on.

Well done Famine, I can't imagine doing the whole 24 hours with A-Spec.

y not..i done it 5 times..the 2 sarthe enduros n 3 times nurb..its easy jus make sure ur gf is workin those days n do it :sly:

Just a brief update - I've just finished the Nurburgring 24hr and finally shut down the PS2. It's been on for 153 hours straight...

I'll add to the write-up, and my sig, tomorrow. Now I need bed...

Famine Good work, if I ever do these in A Spec I have something to work off.
I hope you have a drink bottle connected to your race seat. We dont want you to dehydrate from lack of fluids.
I B spec and go to bed.

Congrats Famine! 👍 You've inspired me to do the Nurb 24hr in A-Spec, I'm 4 days and close to 6 hours in, it takes longer than I thought when you have to do stuff during the week :indiff:

As the Inspiral Carpets once said:- Cool as ****! :sly:

Can't wait to have a crack at A-speccing this one myself, 4 hours of the 'ring in an Alfa Spider in 1000 miles! was total fun, and I'm hoping I can find a ride for the 24hr shot that'll have me finishing in 1st, but on the same lap as the 2nd placed ride. I'm wondering what sort of go I could give it in the Spoon S2000?

Got to hit 25% yet, and I'm making it hard for myself all the way! Completed 1st 3 races of 1000 miles! on a combination of N1 and N3 tyres, and only resorted to SH tyres for Le Sarthe II since the Guilia GTA had such a straightline advantage, and pitted only twice! Now I'm doing Spitfire cup in a bone stock Spitfire on N2 (Com) tyres, and its hard, but probably do-able! 13.9% and counting.....

As an endurance companion, it lets me know what competition I can expect, and what sort of car to pick for my favourite sort of tight challenging race.
Top Job Famine! :)

The S2000 MAY be a bridge too far. You need 7'22 laps and 5 laps per pit to stay with the M3 GTR. The Razo Silvia might be a better car for the job...

I tried with the 330i a whole ago and that couldn't keep with the M3, however my skillz at the 'ring weren't as good as they am now.

:P

Great write-ups Famine i really enjoy reading them.

I am currently doing the Nur. 24hr all A-Spec. I am in a stock M3 GTR Race Car with a R1/R1 tyre combo. I'm on lap 71, 8 hours 11 mins in with a 4 lap lead over the other M3 GTR Race Car.

Wow, this is a useful thread. Seeing as i'm A-Specing all the way this gives me a useful guide of what the competition is.
