Hello all.

I have had GT4 just over a week, visually its fantastic a game, play status and graphics is above previous versions........... but and here is a bit BIG but.

I have just tried to back up my save on to my second memory card, in doing so it kept everything, my races, my 2.5 million credits, but........ all my cars except what I was sat in is now gone.

Now for some unknown reason this has stayed across both cards after buying a Mclaren Merc to attempt the final race of the "supercar festival" in professional races. On that memory card I have the Z racing car I was sat in and the Merc.

How can 47 cars disappear?

Also what car can be used to get the New York track completed? I used the Ford GT road race car 05 for the other 4 but for some reason it always has a car that goes at least half a lap ahead.... uncatchable?

To say I'm a little annoyed is a massive understatement and I will contact Sony direct for answers as this is an in house game. But for now do you guys and dolls have any answers?

Back up your savegame from the PS2 browser, never use the in-game save to do it. General rule seems to be don't touch the memory card if GT4's running. Many people have had this happen, there's a few long threads about it. It occurs because the current game in progress is out of sync with the saved game that it's copying over.

I've never had it happen to me, but isn't there a warning about your garage data being cleared? That should be a good sign that you're doing things the wrong way...
 
go to the gt4 bugs thread. It happened to several of us there. we had a big discussion about it. look between posts 239-241....prolly closer to 240 is where the discussion really gets going.
 
CrackHoor is 100% correct. If you copy over memory cards you have to do it from the browser screen. Sorry about your loss.

Ouch!:ouch: Unfortunately, you probably missed the written warning, that in doing so(saving to other memory card) your present garage will be deleted:scared:
I found that out at the beginning of the game.
To save onto another card, use the console's browser/system configuration (at game start up) Click X, then click on the memory card slot 1 icon when it appears, insert other card in slot 2 and follow instructions....👍

Like CrackHorr, The Real 6c and Camaroboy69 have stated don't save game while in GT4.
Basically your memory card is your garage, all the cars in your garage are stored on the memory card. The only car you keep is the one your in at the time you save to a different memory card.

Thanks all, really great idea using the system browser to transfer the file 💡 , I feel a little dumb not thinking of that! :crazy:

As for the loss, I'm still feeling it, the good news is that I have completed the NY track with my GT 05 and well back on track with refilling my cars! My now growing fortune of 3 Million credits should help! Mr B Spec driver is starting to get quite the demon behind the wheel to help get that cash up repeating races 👍

I did not get a pop up dialog to tell me that the garage would be empty but then again there where so many that I may have missed it!

This is a semi-related question, but rather than start a new thread I'll ask it here:

Does resetting your PS2 during an open game cause any risk of corrupting your save file?

The reason I ask is that without a 'manual reload' feature, I have no choice but to reset the PS2 if I wish to restart a race in the middle of a Series. For instance, I just ran the Japanese Championship in a 380-425hp RX-7 FD. I was trying to stay very close to the field in terms of speed, and start from the back to work through the pack. This resulted in numerous spins, and in short races with close cars, even one big off renders the race unwinnable. In GT3 I could just bop out to the main screen and reload the game... which is of course missing from GT4.

So each 10 minute race takes 45 minutes to an hour to win, what with getting the car dialled in, and getting up to reset the PS2 3 to 5 times before getting a good clean run. Not to mention hearing the stupid DFP recalibrate (loud as a garbage truck, too) with every reboot.

And watch that first braking zone after a reboot, the lightest touch will apply full brakes to calibrate the pedals! Always catches me... But I've reset GT4 plenty (usually test driving purchased cars in arcade) and I suspect that unless the game's autosaving at the moment, a reboot should be no more dangerous to your savegame than turning on the PS2 in the first place.
 
Just to share my pain...

- I had over 75% of the cars tuned and/or setup just the way I liked them... Some more than one set off settings were used for different conditions like high speed, drifting, rally, city...

- I had driven 90% of the cars, sending the gremlins on hollydays (TCS & ASM off)

- I had some 2 or 3 models duplicated (like theLotus Carlton or the Nissan 1600 '70), so that I could have one totally stock and the other fully upgraded with wheels and wing and all...

- I had carefuly chosen and bought wheels for about a third of the cars, just to make them look better...

- I gathered about 9 million credits to buy all four black cars...

- I was collecting all cars, especialy the classic cars, and checking the used car lots to find bargains every 2 or 3 game days...

- I never sold a car I won...
(except for the RSC RallyRaid over and over to make some cash)

- I had over 225 cars the last time I saw...

Now they are all gone because I decided to be safe and back-up my save...

How ironic is that ?

Happened like this: I swap to MC 2 and saved. Then swap back to MC1 (the original) and continued on. When I was coming back from the next event, "Mem card status changed, save ?" Obviously I said yes to that and every other question about overwrite and so on...

Question: Why? Might as well say "sorry, can't save to a defferent MemCard, please insert the correct MemCard". Why clean up the garage? Revenge? Retaliation? What is this???

Since I can't win 25% and 50% cars again, I'll be restarting the game tonight... I'll probably B-Spec it as much as I can and go for the 100% win ratio

GT4 was @92% but... PD stole my 225+ cars...

Sorry to hear about your loss. With the autosave/autoload 'feature', it appears to be very dangerous to swap cards or even save to a second card while the game is open. Always do your backups outside the game using the PS2 file browser.
 
The supid part is I had done that through the file browser previoulsy... I just decided to do it this way to be faster...

I'm so paranoid about this I remove the GT4 disc, shut off the PS2, and re-start. Only then will I back up with the PS2 file browser. I will not do it if the disc is in the machine.

Ouch, that's awful. :indiff: It's too bad you hadn't read about this problem before, h_b.
 
Just a follow up.

It's not that bad to restart the game...
- Now I allways aim for silver on the licence tests (allready have 3 all silver or better), winnig two cars in a row each time I complete it. And the second time round they're a lot easier.

- Now I know exactly what to by or use for each race, based on previous experience. Good or bad...

- Now I already have 2 million credits @ about 22% of the game... and 50 cars.

- Now I can buy anything from the used car lot (except the black cars, but when those come along I'll have 9 to 10 million ready for them...)

- Now I can collect all cars, easily. Already have 2 Lotus Carlton again. One stock, another fully moded.

I've only played four evenings... about 16/18 hours, B-Specin' 60% of the way and I have a 100% win ratio.

If it happens to you, don't discourage. Use your experience to get back at it better than before!
 
Be sure to always take out your memory card when you power it up or power it down. The PS1 and PS2 manuals both mention that if you leave your memory card in the slot during power changes, it can cause data corruption and loss.
