whew. All this Initial D talk. The live-action movie just opened up here (Japan) yesterday. I should go see it right away, if the wife will let me.
Stay home and just watch Stage 3.

The cars and the races are the only reason worth seeing the Live-Action movie.

Which of those were prayed as "The greatest thing ever! 1,1000 RPM! Oh yeah!" while f20c kicks it's @$$ by a mile?

While I would agree that the 4AGE is overrated by people who have no idea how engines work, reaching 150hp/Liter in naturally-aspirated Formula Atlantic trim (240hp from a 1.6L) is no small feat. I know that the stock, road-going S2000 reaches 120hp/Liter, (240hp from a 2.0L), but what kind of HP numbers have people gotten from the F20C, naturally-aspirated?

Another awesome iron-block 4-cylinder, that is horribly underrated, simply because most people don't even know it exists, is the M10. BMW used it from the 60's up until 1990, and it saw usage in everything from economy cars (like my 318i), to sporty cars (like the 2002 Turbo), to race cars (Brabham BMW F1).

In the Brabham BMW F1 qualifying trim, they got nearly 1500hp from a 1.5L turbocharged (80+ psi) version of the M10!! (1000hp/L :p )

In 1986, the M10 was given a 4-valves-per-cylinder head, and strengthened/lightened components. BMW called it the S14, and that was what powered the E30 M3. In road trim, it made 200hp from 2.3L, and over 300hp in race trim. By the end of the E30 M3's run, it was making 238hp from 2.5L in road trim, and up to 360hp-390hp from 2.5L in race trim...all naturally aspirated...

I thought the Live Action Movie was horrid.

WOW! 1000hp/L

Lexus also sold a 215HP IS300 in the US.

Then I guess it sucks even more that it wasn't in the game. Understand your gripe, the wagon is just too heavy! I'm happy with the 200hp version of the IS200, though.

It's a neat engine. Anything that revs that high is cool by me. 4AGEs are by far the kings of ghetto-tuning in Asia outside of Japan, and have only been replaced by the B16A because there are so many wrecked SiRs and Type-Rs now. You can stick a 4AGE in anything, in any orientation, and with almost any set-up (NA, turbo, supercharged, twincharged, etc, ad nauseum) you want. The race-tuned 4AGE is a monster of an engine for WHAT it IS, a naturally aspirated lump of iron.

I'd talk about the SR20, too, but they're probably so common (turbo'd, naturally aspirated, used in kit-cars, super seven clones, Tommy Kairas, etc, ad nauseum), someone's going to tell me to shut up.

I thought the Live Action Movie was horrid.

You're too kind. I have the DVD. After watching the first ten minutes, I fast-forwarded to the racing scenes (and I could still follow what was going on in the 'dramatic' scenes, weirdly), and after the first two or three racing scenes, I realized how little of the racing scenes were 'real' (stupid CGI!), so I started fast forwarding that, too. I finished off the DVD in thirty minutes.

Horrid doesn't even begin to describe this movie. It's worth a rental, just to see the cars 'in-the-flesh', but not worth a movie ticket.

niky's totally right about the 4age, everyone 4ages every old Toyota here. KExx Corollas, Starlets, TExx Corollas, AE85s, you name it. Either that of 12a rotors... The 4age is used here in heaps of kit cars and Lotus Seven replicas too. Sure there's better engines out there but nothing comes cheaper than a 4age, you can pick up a red/bluetop for a few hundred bucks.

You're right, the Movie is really bad......I didn't know that and I watched it only to see the R32, Evo 3,4 and so on in "real" life......
The action is crap, Bunta is completely messed up :scared: and the fat guy from the gas station, the son of the owner, interprets....Itsuki and Iketani.....both at once :dunce: such a let down :(:(

That's my own opinion at least, it's worth watching it once....and then forget it......

PS: The introduction is cool, have to admit :sly: Nice to see Akina (Harouna actually) in real life 👍

I saw the live action movie and it was pretty bad overall. I did however like how they went deep into just a couple races instead of rushing through a bunch of races with no substance. also a bit too much of the love story...funny thing is I watched it in japanese with no subtitles and I dont speak japanese. I just looked for words with car meaning behund it and the characters names. Also im having a crappy time finding (gt4) a good white FC and newer yellow FD with the type-rz or bathhurst rear wing. also can't seem to find a white 98 evo V gsr. and Id think that they (takumi) would have gone with the AE101 after the swap...indiv throttles were mentioned, but I dont remembered if they kept it a 4age, could be my mistake, but ill have to check it out.

o yeah and btw does anyone know if bunta's impreza (i know its a type-r VI, but the front bumper seems to look a tad bit more like the 22b) was in the brighter royal blue like on the gt4 22b, or was it more like the dark blue type-r?? im not sure which to roll with right now.

royal blue 22b, just slap some Ver VI or V rims on it (can be found in the daily special in the wheels section in GT AUTO) and you've got bunta's imprezza
👍

Bat22, isn't the IS200(J) just that? The Altezza? Because I thought they only sold the 160hp version in the US.

I guess I'm like Takumi from Stage 1, not comprehending the connection between "86" and "Trueno". Didn't know the Toyota Altezza was the same as the Lexus IS200 (J).

I keep hearing about changing the engines on cars or selecting their color (like actually making a G-Limited blue like in Stage 3). What the heck are you guys talking about? What allows you to have such features in GT4??

I know there was a program for GT3 that allowed you to hack the game like that. I don't know whether or not one exists for GT4 yet...

I remember using that program to make a neon orange Miata with a 26B... :trouble:

Wolfe2x7
The engine that was swapped into Takumi's Trueno after blowing the original engine was a race-tuned 4AGE normally used in Toyota Formula Atlantic cars.

4ageenginepic3lo.gif

That's a 16v engine. Takumi's engine has been shown in the 2nd Stage and 4th Stage intros as being a Silvertop 20v. The engine is probably a race version of that.

yeah ive heard of it too, they're called "hybrids"
i don't know much about it since ive only played gt4 :guilty:

Whoops, dumb mistake on my part... :ouch:

I would assume that there are 20v race-versions, but maybe not...?

I don't know if there really are race 20v 4AG engines. All I know is that Takumi's engine is supposed to be a 20v Silvertop. Amazingly enough, they even got it right in the live action movie.

Hmmm? Interesting... Was tempted, once upon a time, to buy a 20v black top for my Mazda. But then the guy who does the hybrids mentioned it took them 6 months to make the wiring work the first time they did it...:indiff: and that was all she said...

I watched eps 21 & 22 the other day. Good stuff.

Someone was asking about the colour of buntas sti. Pretty sure it's sonic blue (74F)
The same colour as my impreza :)

Yeah, it's a "SKYLINE 25GT TURBO [ER34]", from the Initial D arcade website.

The only FR R34s in the game are the Amuse Carbon R (R34) and the Blitz Skyline ER34 D1spec 2004.

BTW, is the R33 generally disliked amongst Skyline enthusiasts? Speaking as someone who's seen the latest episodes... :dopey:

The R33 was kinda seen as a step in the wrong direction for the Skyline by some people. Being a bit bigger and heavier (not much more really) than the R32. It still had better performance figures than the R32 though and more leg room, especially in the rear than an R32. Guess people couldn't get over a few Kgs...

I personally think the R33 GTR looks mean but I'm not keen at all on normal R33's, especially the sedans. On a side note I saw a GTR-Spec Stagea today, looked very cool.

Tell that to Itsuki and his 86. :(

But in all the games, Bunta's car is ID'd as:

IMPREZA WRX type R STi Version V (GC8)

I think I even caught the "WRX" logo in one of the intros.

niky
@Bat22, isn't the IS200(J) just that? The Altezza? Because I thought they only sold the 160hp version in the US. Having three Altezza/IS's in the game doesn't seem 'severely cut' to me.
Although it make look like it, it is not the exactly same car with left hand drive and just a different badge. The dimesions are different between them to meet US regulations(crash tests i think). I can't remember exactly why its different, but I know it is.

Whoa there, Mate! :boggled: No harm or insult intended. Obviously GT4 doesn't have all the exact same cars; however, some of us don't want a cosmetic look-alike but something as close to the "kernel" as possible. Many times folks wondered if Bunta's new ride was a WRX or 22B. That's what I wanted settled regardless if GT4 didn't have the quite the right color or ride.

Then it's just what car is closest to his Ver. V (GC8) or an FR R34 or the absent Altezza. Even if the dimensions are different, I'll volunteer the IS 200 (J) if it's still the closest thing to the car in GT4. Likewise the WRX versus the 22B, despite my admittedly limited knowledge of cars. Again, though I might nitpick, it is not my intention it offend fellow ID-fans.
