This is the Met Police's new catch-you motor.

The 640bhp Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 will be at MPH'06 on the Met Police stand -- we hear that the 6.5-ltre V12-powered machine had to be hurried covered during the photo-shoot as it was in danger of causing traffic accidents.

However, the Met Police was at pains to say that the 211mph, £180,000 supercar hasn't been paid for with public money. But in the eight miles that the Met Police was allowed to drive it, it was stopped twice by other Met units, having committed no traffic violations. Have they nothing better to do?

I also saw this car at MPH 06, and here is my shot:

But I did not have a tripod with me, so I had to resize it. However in the next month or two I will head out to London to try and spot with car with my camera and a tripod on hand.

Also I do have a low down shot of this police car, but you will have to wait till later on for it.

In Oregon, all State Police cars are Murcielagos......... OK, I lie. I think the car is gorgeous. 👍

One car...

London...

...better pack a thermos and change of undies. You're gonna be there a while.

And in the unlikely event of you actually seeing it, are you going to ask it to wait while you set your tripod up?

I rather take my chances and try and ask some police, where one is going to be parked for a while. Also I bet this will be at Goodwood Festive of Speed 07 and MPH 07.

This car only exists for MPH'06 as a publicity stunt. It will lose the livery and go back to being a "normal" Murcielago afterwards.

If only this WERE a patrol car...Speeders would just plain give up! ^^

I do like it when police departments build up show cars like this, though they aren't practical, (no backseat to transport crooks) they are neat.

If you read it the news I posted, it says:

So that means it could still be there’s.

YEV1L is owned by Lamborghini. It has been on numerous Murcielagos. It used to be on a yellow one. I'm sure its been on a Diablo too.

And I can read, thanks. Yes, your text proves the police own it.

The plate in the bottom pic is different, it's NO TH.... probably NO THE LAW or something like that. There is a possibility that it only has the YEVIL plates on for the show and Lamborghini will take thoes back and not the car after the show.

It'll have YEV1L on when its on the road. Its a valid number plate. NO TH... isn't.

Be it that or Choppers speeders who don't stop don't stand a chance. I know most forces do have some damn fast special chase cars, I think Yorkshire has a couple of uber-Evos.

Wouldn't it be great if it was real, although people might want to speed to see it....

I know YEV1L is a valid numberplate, that doesn't mean Lamborghini can't take it off that car and the police register a new plate for it. The plate can still be on the car just for the show. I'm not saying it definitely is or anytihng jus tthat the fact the car wears that plate doesn't outright mean that the car is going straight back to Lamborghini.

Craziness. I doubt they kept it :P

I know Colorado State Patrol has some STi's for the mountains. Would be pretty crazy to get chased by one of those.

That too was a publicity stunt - they had the car active for a few weeks in an anti-street racing campaign, but they're (long) gone now. Does anyone have the picture of the Colorado State Patrol STi, by the way? I can't find it anywhere Online.

Not to mention it would cost the force thousands everytime they tried the PIT maneuver and they could always track the suspect with a Helicopter.

Didn't another police force use a Lotus Elise as a publicity stunt before?

There's quite a few Subaru Impreza police cars here in Manchester, most are unmarked.

Here's another I've seen:

Pretty cool. Like an LP640 - or any Supercar for that matter - will be any faster than a normal Police car in the middle of London, though...

The Israeli police recruited a guy with an M5 (previous-gen) as a paid-volunteer. I'm not usually in that area, and I have to admit the only time I was doing more than the speed-limit was in the school-bus in Germany, but being chased by performance-cars rather than the usual Mazda 323 Lantis/Protege is nice.

but lamborghini only lent it to the met for the show, same as they did with the gallardo a few months ago.
best police cars the british police have had was an Aston Martin DB7 (surrey police i think) and a couple of lotus esprit twin turbos(m25 patrol cars)

Exactly. Though it does not look like it, that means the police do not own it b/c if I'm not mistaken, that's how a lot of police cars are bought/repaired...with people's tax money. Even then, the "was at pains" means it's not their's.

If you want, I'll even contact a fellow at factory. I'm 110% sure he'll give me a report that the MET police asked to use the LP640 as a publicity stunt.

That'll be a no, then.

Can't stand the paint. Might look better as a US car, black & white or maybe some blue with green.

If you want photos of any special cop cars, I suggest you drive down a freeway at around 200mph and see what you get. Probably you best chance of a pic of one
