I mean.. I just blew an entire week playing this game. I've ditched my friends, girlfriend, cats, and an elderly grandmother just to complete all 3 classes. (still have a coupel to go in A)

This is a serious problem. It wouldn't nearly take so long if I didn't go braindead due to the beauty of the game. I wouldn't HAVE to sit and stare at each replay over and over again.

Another big issue is the lack of Americans on the Leaderboards. So I took it upon myself to try to rank at least in the top 10 for a few tracks using the 02 skyline. I know, ironic.

I have a feeling that Gran Turismo will once again consume my entire life until my playstation is stolen, or my will power creates a singularity because I am so thrilled to witness one of my favorite things in the world coming together so well.

Its a financial issue as well. 40 dollars, yeah thats just the gateway game. Because i HAD to buy a g25 steering wheel & racing seat. This is again one of the most expensive games I bought. Previous title was gt4...

I don't want your help.:nervous:Its too late for me.

I'm European but not french and I saw a lot of Americans in the top 10 on the leaderboards. Americans are fast.

And yes, I have a problem too with GT5p. It's addictive and I need all my will power to stop playing and go on with my life.

I tend to lock my left elbow when using the DFP, the tendons from there to my shifting fingers are so sore it's affecting my work. I could only manage last Monday and Tuesday away from the damn game, and I'm late for work in the morning and using any excuse to leave early to feed my addiction.

Thanks PD!

keep your work at it, we need to beat the europeans, specially the french

Hmm, I dont like the way this is going, I dont mean this thread, I mean the online for GT in general. I think we should continue to keep nationality out of this, its nice for competitive purposes perhaps, but it can get messy.

Prologue is definitely addictive, no matter how angry it made me (due to the collision problem present in GT4 still being a nuisance in Prologue, among other things) I can't seem to put the controller down, at all. I just woke up a few minutes ago and what was the first thing I did?

...You guessed it; I turned on my PS3 and proceeded to play GT5 and now that I've gotten the F2007 it's going to be that much worse. GT always gets the best of my attentiveness, I've actually considered not going to school a few days just to sit at home and race...all day long. Luckily, I didn't do this but PD definitely know what they're doing with this game.

Why? We do need to beat the french!! For some reason they win almost every race... no cheat or anything... thats annoying!

heheh nice topic tho.
i didnt feel addicted yet, because the only tracks i like in prologue are suzuka and fuji, i cannot wait for the original game with all their cars and tracks!!!!.... i was completely addicted to gt1, gt2, gt3 and gt4 especially nürburgring-nordschleife since im originally from germany and grew up just one hour away from this race track.
i also spent a lot of hours, days maybe longer... playing gran turismo since no.#1.. but hey.. im actually not a big gamer. i dont play other games in my sparetime.... i bought every playstation just for gran turismo.
that game its pure fun to me.. i also did kart racing when i was young and grew up with cars... and about driving to much gt5p... i cannot and we cannot do nothing against it!
its in us i guess!
definately in me

cheers

GT5P: It's like crystal meth in a disk!
I should go find that thread...
Well, I don't have a PS3, as thats too expensive for me. But I would sooo love to have GT5P. I played it at a friend's house, and words defy me.

I'm not really addicted to GT5P.
But I experienced addiction before.

Remember addictions can ruin lives.

I agree. I've blown a few days waiting for the game, and a even more days playing the game. I find myself declining some "fun" to play GT5P online! :D

I'm hooked. I think about GT5P at work. I bought the JPN version and now I have the USA version.

I have a callouse on my hand. Maybe I should wear gloves :)

I've been waiting for a game that looks great and has realistic physics. GT5P is the only one that does both.

Now back to the game.

My taxes are late because of GT5:P... Every waking minute I can play it, I do. When I'm at work, I'm thinking about the awesome races I've had and different setups I should try, when I go to sleep, I dream of paying back all those 10 year old punks who punted me off into the kitter litter at Suzuka.

Does the PAL version run with 50 or 60 Hertz? If 50, the times are not comparable and the US players should be much faster.

Yeah, at 2.30am this morning I did... I had to be up at 7am to get the girls ready for school! I did it though, but i think I've buggered tonight's racing - I'll be comatose once the girls have gone to bed!

I dream about the game at night. This morning my phone vibrated to wake me up, but all i could think of was how realistic it was to feel the vibrations on my foot (the phone was somehow on the bed) as i was driving over a curb. :-) ridiculous... Haha. Took me at least 10 seconds to connect to reality.

It is addictive, but I must play some other games... Oh go on, just one more....

"specially the french", perhaps you mean "especially the French"? Although I'm not quite sure why in either case.

Oh, you're in trouble when you finish A and discover there is an unlocked s-Class.

As for me I had one good reason to step away. I have a new niece that was born Saturday. But when we weren't at the hospital playing happy aunt and uncle I was in front of my DFP.

When you press the PS button and it asks "Do you want to quit the game?" I think, no I don't actually but I have to sleep, but I click no and play a little longer.:guilty: There's just not enough hours in the day for everything.

The full Gran Turismo 5 should come with a serious health warning and mention likely sleep deprivation and possibilty of becoming Agoraphobic. Also if you've been using the wheel or controller for a long time a pop up could say "Please get some fresh air and contact friends and family".

I arrived home from work on Friday and nonchalantly decided to download GT5:P instead of waiting for the full release. Set-up my raceframe but I knew I'd be watching the hockey playoffs in less than an hour.

Well, starting that night I went from the race seat - bed - race seat - bed - race seat - bed, with a couple of reluctant trips to the kitchen and bathroom in between.

It's Monday and I'm at work, knowing that regardless of my best intentions to spend some time with my wife tonight, I'll be back in that seat instead.

In lieu of flowers, please send a charitable donation to your local Video Game Addiction Clinic.

I have ditched friends, my girlfriend (more about that later) and so many other things.

I just love to race, try getting every event gold (especially B3 is killing) and study every replay. I have a GT5: P addiction ... oh well. :p

Regarding my girlfriend, i'm already coming up with weird excuses not to go out, rather to stay home and finish couple of events.
Once we were out, i was actually thinking how to take turn 2 at Eiger Nordwand faster, while i was having diner with her

I have the answer to you problem!

Go quick and hug the inside. Then accelerate slowly so you don't hit the sand.

This is what I've gathered from this thread: People have issues with self control.

Hey, you live on Long Island. I'm pretty sure you didn't need this thread to figure that out.

Yeah, but you live in Vermont, where there's hardly any people to speak of. :p

Hmm, I was going to post a thread about this, but this thread is good enough for it I think...

I have a DFP (A driving force pro steering wheel) and I don't use it. I am rubbish at it, and using it used to annoy my housemates, what with it's whirring and me shouting expletives at it :irked:. I didn't spend long persevering with it and so I remained a button-masher... having spent my entire GT career using the controller, it felt like the sensible option. So I kept the wheel so I could use it occasionally, but now it only ever sees the light of day at UKGTP meetings. Infact, it has even started going to them without me :(

Anyhoo, Xmas holiday 2006, and New Year 2007, and I notice a strange feeling in my left hand... my thumb was permanently sore. It became extremely painful to do certain things, like opening bottles, and (bizarrely), unbuttoning my jeans! Playing the guitar was also problematic, but so too was using a PS controller. Long story short, I assumed I had developed something akin to RSI, but didn't attribute it to anything specific at the time...

I saw a doctor and I got my thumb X-rayed, and a few things were ruled out. After a few months of physio, and some drug treatment, the problem started to subside - but never fully went "away". But I felt that it had regained it's strength and that the sharp, excruciating twanges of pain I had been getting had virtually disappeared. I asked my physio about playing Playstation and he recommended that I shouldn't do it if was causing pain, but that so long as I was doing the exercises he recommended, I shouldn't stop using my thumb for "normal" levels of activity.

Despite this, I embarked on a faithful recreation of the 2006 F1 season, starting in April 2007... I found it pretty hard going, and had to quit it for a while, but ultimately I managed to get it done, but the effect on my thumb was noticable. And perhaps even more foolishly (but even more enjoyably!), I went to SFGTP2 in October 2007, to take part in a GT4 LAN hosted by Smallhorses and his good lady wife, itgirlxx, in California... fortunately, I didn't feel too many ill effects, despite two whole days of racing...

A few, short months later, and 2008 brings to an end the long PS3 "decent game drought". A friend bought me GT5:P, and in Jan 2008, I started playing it in earnest. Come April 2008, and I finally get my PS3 on broadband, and the good times start to roll. Since then, I've been playing GT5:P regularly, but have noticed a few subtle differences... subtle, but in my personal context, highly significant...

The first thing to notice is that the pain is coming back :indiff: And this time, given that I now purposefully avoid using my thumb for other 'strenuous' activities, I do now feel that the pain is being specifically exacerbated by using the PS controller...

The second thing to notice is when I am getting the worst of the pains, and the rather depressing answer is "when playing racing games in 'competitive' mode". GT5:P now has more "competitive modes" than ever before - live racing against opponents and time-trials. Previous GT's had plenty challenges, like golding licenses etc., or 200 A-Spec point races, the former being atleast one thing I suspected of contributing toward my initial injury.

The competitive elements in the game is something that I think is one of the single most likely contributors to making this issue worse... I can (and do) press very hard on the buttons, esp. in the heat of a battle, or in order to squeeze that last 0.005 of a second required for a Gold license... Perhaps it is just me, or perhaps it is simply a case of not listening to the safety advice. But either way, I thought it was worthy of mention that, in my case atleast, Gran Turismo is literally becoming a pain - at that is a major pain, because it is one of my favourite pasttimes... As for the DFP, I've figured that it offers a possible solution, but the time and energy required to convert from affirmed button-masher to DFP user might simply be too much. I also now have laminate flooring throughout my flat :ouch:

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has felt anything similar... I suspect that my ailment is pretty uncommon, but I also suspect that my problem is fairly novel at the same time i.e. I have been button mashing for 12 years, and I started at the relatively late age of 21, and am now feeling the effects....
