back in the fall my family drove up to Quebec (Canada) to visit some friends and when we were in Quebec everyone on the highway was doing at least 160km/h at first we were doing around 120km/h but every one was passing us and people were honking there horn at us, so my dad decided to keep up with the traffic, so we were going around 160 and even 180km/h at one time to keep up and people were still passing us!! it was crazy! but i must confess it was really fun, my sister and my mom were really scared n me n my dad were like WOOOHHOOOO!!
and the funny thing is, we didn't see a cop for about 2 hours on the highway n by the time we saw the cop every one was slowed down to a normal speed. n so we never got a ticket. Has anyone else noticed this kind of drving in quebec?

oh and we were in a 98 toyota camry CE V6, (200hp)

Yep. My dad drove his sunfire up there for our family vacation. We saw alot of people drive with their feet out the window, and they drove fast, too. My dad didn't pass one person the entire way there, and on the way back he pass oned person..a cop, doing about 80 mph. :)

No I havn't noticed that when driving in quebec, because I have never been there. But I do know how fun it is going 160 Kph, my friend's dad was doing it when we were going to the beach once in his SS commadore wagon!

That's like on I-55 in Mississippi. We had the cruise set at about 90mph and were getting passed. My dad got fustrated by some bad drivers so he would kick it up to 100 for several miles. Then in Louisianna we got tailgated a bunch of times doing like 85mph so my dad floored it after this one crazy old lady in a Caravan was on our tail and we did about 112.
In our '92 MPV V6 auto, 155hp, and the load of our vacation stuff(I'd say that the MPV wieghed around 4,400lbs with the stuff).
There's some people that also do that on I-55 in Illinois. We went to Chicago last year for the car show...the way up sucked because it was a blizzard. On the way down this guy in a DX Civic was tailing us so my dad floored it and we did about 120mph, and then closer towards STL this guy in a Cavalier of all things passed us at this what had to be dangerously fast for a Cavalier speed, so my dad floored it just to see how fast he was going(heh, gotta love highway fun) so we got up to about 130mph and cought him, then stayed with him at about 115mph for a short time before deciding that it wasn't the best idea to stay at that speed through traffic, but the Cavalier did...
That was in our '93 Probe GT, 164hp 5 speed.

You guys haven't driven till you've been on a Michigan road. I was coming back from Detroit last night on I-75 and I didn't drop below a 105 the whole way home. I got passed like no other. The typical crusing speed on I-75 is around 90-95, and as long as you go the flow of traffic you will never be pulled over. Cops don't care as long as you don't weave in and out of traffic.

But I remeber once I was with my buddy in his Grand Prix GTP and we were crusing back from Flint. We kept the car around 125 the whole way home, we thought the engine was going to give.

But people in Michigan a nuts. Plus only place were you drive in the left lane and pass in the right on the highway.

I bet your gas mileage is awesome cruising at 105 in a Blazer.:p

You think that's bad? Try going through Ontario. THAT's a nightmare right there.

We're called quebecois, you arse.

But that's only the french people, you know the knid that have a pepsi and maywest for breakfast. Being an anglo I'm proud to say that I'm not not like any french person and living in an anglo community I can say I only go 125km/h.

I live in Quebec and i have to say that quebeccers are the worst drivers I have ever seen. Like Adam said, whenever I go through montreal on Metropolitan Blvd. I have no choice but go 160km/h or else I fear geting run down by the sup'ed up Suzuki Swift:lol:

Also, coming to a complete stop at any stop sign is like asking to be rear ended. And then get yelled at for stopping.

Anyways I am glad to be an english speaking quebeccer and drive reasonably at a pace of around 120-130km/h.

PS. USE YOUR ****ING TURNING SIGNALS:lol:

lolz,i was laughing so much reading all these posts,i lived 5 years in montreal,Quebec and i know they r one of the worst drivers but to where i moved, they are much worst, like taxis are going like 80km/h and then suddenly they turn right without even looking back and they drop a customer,or this is better i was with my dad and we were on a main street and there some street that cross so i this guy just passes across the street with his swift and not even looking right or left and my dad was honking like there was no tomorow ohh and i almost forgot, last summer,my bro loves caddy so he have one 1987 caddy and one 1996 caddy(300HP) so we were rolling in the downtown and in front of us was full of cars so u cant go fast and there is a taxi behind that started honking at us so my bro moved in the middle of the street, put the stereo to the max and rolled at 10km/h,it was so funny everyone was looking at us

A few years ago my family was driving from new mexico to washington and we were way out in the middle of nowhere doin about 100 in this little crappy diamante and this suburban goes rollin by us so my dad speeds up to try and catch it but he gets to 110 and its still pullin away and my mom is yelling at him so he slowed back down to 100.

...and this has to do with Quebec how?

Doesn't Montreal have speedbumps everywhere?

But the fastest I've ever gone in a car is a very tame 140km/h at various times. My dad is mostly a very sane driver, but lately he has this weird habit of doing 60-70 km/h in narrow residential streets.

Stupid 'quebecers'. I went to montreal last summer for a French emmersion/transfer experience(i switched places with some other kid (not families thouhg;) )). All i can see is the city shouldnt have spent all that money on max speed signs. If anything, they shoud change them form maximum to minimum.

Hahaha I live in Quebec, and it's pretty good... In Montreal (*where I live), absolutely EVERYONE j-walks. A standup guy from the US had a line along the sorts of "Montrealers feel as if to consider traffic lights as all year 'round Christmas decor." It's true...

You want strange driving... Go to Ottawa. Rush hour traffic is like Nascar... Bumper to bumper at 100km/h.

I used to drive from Chicago to Dekalb every weekend in my old Scirocco. I'd sustain 130 for long periods. One day driving home some guy in a turbo Saab just blew me away. I was amazed at how fast he took off from around 100. There was no way I was going to catch up.

I thought in America, the speed limits were pretty low and the cops are strict on speeding :odd: ?

On the subject of speeding, me and my old man were busted the other day doing about 100mph in a 40mph zone. It was in the middle of the nights, in an empty country dual carriage way. We didn't realise the cop was following us,a dn even lost him at one stage, he eventually caught up when we slowed down. We didn't get charged or bboked or anything. He just said ' I understand it's easy to not realise how fast you're going. I'm just going to say drive carefully and try and obide to the speed limits.' and he let us go. :)
car: Nissan 300ZX TT, stock, although he's looking at upgrading the turbos on it soon as they need replacing :odd: .

Well I don't see what is so crazy about drivers from Quebec...

highway patrols are much more tolerant in Ontario than Quebec, I've often passed through speed traps doing more than 125 km/h there without trouble, which is very rare here, tax collection is a very serious matter!

And guess where I got passed while driving over 240km/h? (by an 98(or so) s600 coupe 380hp v12, :irked: )... Ontario again Anyway I've seen people driving over 200km/h in Quebec, Ontario, few states and France... only thing crazier here is I live in the only place in North America beside NY City that forbids right turns on red lights! :banghead:

(btw this was on a clear, wide highway on sunday morning, could only have hurt myself... oh well, maybe a cow or two :D...)

anyway, that's the only time so far i got my ass kicked on the road with my little sleeper :trouble: ... and only time I drove this fast.
(98 t5 with turbo mods, about 280hp/290 lbs, bilstein suspension -- was stock then...)

Sorry if my english is crappy...
