The Future of Formula GT: Q&A with The drivers
Written by: RACECAR
Le Mans, France - 01/20/08
Now that Formula GT has changed hands and seemingly is continuing where it left off, There are still raised eyebrows on both its current status and its direction. Earlier, some of the current drivers activily competing were asked to weigh in thier opinion on both the change of leadership and its future.
Q:Formula looks to have been shaken up with the sudden change of Chief Steward. Whats your take on this sudden accurance?
Blake: "Well I’m not sure what happened with Earth but obviously after what’s happened recently I think we all need to support any choice he makes regarding his online commitments."
Superberkut: "Well, really, I am very surprised, but I also think it is unfair to have the reigning World Champion, with the potential to repeat, get mired in this administrative work. RACECAR has never run this series before (to my knowledge), and already I can see that it is going to be hard work for him. At this point, all I can say is good luck."
GT4 Defistation: "I just hope the series doesnt end."
Amemyarz: "Well, since I am fairly new to the Formula GT, I am not really concerned about the change. I am a little concerned for the old Cheif Steward because he seems like a nice guy and I was looking forward to racing him"
Q: Do you agree or disagree with the choice of steward to continue running the series?
Blake: "I’m happy for RACECAR to run the series"
Superberkut: "All the same, I don't think there could have been anybody better to run this series. RACECAR certainly knows what he is doing, and, races aside, I have full confidence in him."
GT4 Defistation: "Totally agree. As long as there is someone in charge."
Amemyarz: "I completely agree with the choice. If Earth trusted him to take the position, then I will to."
Q: What do you expect from the new chief Stewart?
Blake: "Something to the level Earth was doing before would be great, but realistically I think there is some loss of interest now so maybe if we can just generate a little more buzz and get people racing again it would be good"
Superberkut: "I just expect to run a normal series, but the last thing I want to see is an incapacitated racer trying to defend his title in the face of less fatigued opposition. At this time, I don't expect much, his teammate having left in unfortunate and chaotic circumstances, but as he adjusts, I would anticipate a normal series."
GT4 Defistation: "I think that the little poduim picture won't be there anymore and thats it."
Amemyarz:"Well, not much really. I expect that he'll stay on task and will keep the series running like it was before."
Q:What do you expect to see for the future of Formula GT?
Blake: "Just some good ol’ simple racing."
Superberkut: "The future of Formula GT... could possibly have the first World Champion sidelined to run the races if nobody else is experienced enough to work as Chief Steward. Hopefully, another manager that can participate full-time will be hired next season, if only to take off the burden that our current administrator/rival carries. The races ought to be as they were, though."
GT4 Defistation: "I think that the little poduim picture won't be there anymore and thats it."
Amemyarz: "I really hope to see an expansion in the number of members. Also, members that will commit themselves to actually compete. Many racers have not even shown up yet. This is very disapointing."
And with that, time will only tell what will become of FGT. There is one thing for certain, that RACECAR looks to continue on the series no matter how troublesome it seems.

New changes for Qualifying in the works
Written by: RACECAR
Le Mans, France – 01/20/2008
Qualifying may see a huge change that could be put in next season. RACECAR has proposed a new kind called Elimination Qualifying, a format that is commonly seen in F1 and DTM. "The way this qualifying works is that each session eliminates each group of drivers till the final positions are set" RACECAR said. "This works based on the number of competitors. For instance, Say you have 16 cars qualifying, this is broken down in groups of four in each of the four sessions. Four are eliminated in the first three sessions and the final session determines the final four positions." Whether the format will or will not be put in place will be determined by the drivers themselves. RACECAR said that he is not willing to make a change the competitors do not like and wants to make sure that he gets their input before doing so. "Its out of Fair-minded interest that Whether a change or new rule is implemented must be decided by the competitors, for they are the life of the series and forcing anything down on them is not the way to keep a series alive"
