Stuff like that, while realistic, is not fun nor appealing as it is something that punishes the player for something that is largely out of his or her control. Gran Turismo is still a game and that means enjoyment should be a factor. I'm not trying to lose a long ass endurance race because my car blows up or something.

^ Agreed. The suggestions made in this thread would be terrible for such a large title that hasn't gained it's fanbase with explosions and damage but rather a broad but indepth experience. I'm afraid the features mentioned would only appeal to a smaller percentage of the market they're trying to appeal to. I think GT has always done a great job in satisfying the more knowledegeable and realisit crowd while also balancing gameplay for the masses.

GT already features a lot of maintenance oriented factors that all derives from realism. Engine rebuilds, body repairs, tire wear, mechanical damage, and oil changes all can effect your car's performance. Engine explosions and flat tires are just taking it too far. I was already unimpressed with inclusion of damage models - nothing more annoying than looking at a warped tail end because the AI behind you thought it was benefitial to rear-end you.

I mean there are already a ton of factors in play, and in some situations more than I could care for, and this would just kill it entirely. I just don't see how this would be "fun."

Yes we have all those things for maintenance but whats the point of paying 500k to fix the motor or body of the car if the motor will never blow up and the cars still look brand new after each race....

And the car manufacturers make no sense because cars get flats in real life and the engines do blow up due to people not taking care of cars or just over rev the piss out of it.

So why dont they want it to happen in a GAME THAT IS TRYING TO REPRESENT REAL DFIVING ???

I definitely wouldnt want engine damage during a race. I wouldn't want to lose an engine 8 hours into an endurance race while in the lead. If PD incorporate flat spots on the tires from locking up the wheels or punctured tires, then that would be cool.

REally...get a hold of your self. Most people who play this game are busy duping or complaining baout the difficulty and crappy rewards. There will be hell to pay when on your 24 hour race tires fall off or you have a serious crash and retire form the race.

Yeah it sounds awsome but it will be far from awsome when you waste 23 hours.

Be realistic people and remember fun for you is not fun for him.

Because that'd be stupid and is probably the reason why I've never even heard of the game you're all trying to compare to GT5... lol blown engines and flat tires... really? I mean really???

I'm going to release a super sim addon for GT5, Its shaped like a rolling pin but don't let that fool you. if you are heading for the wall at any sort of decent speed you grab the super sim addon and tap yourself on the skull with it at the right moment, this will simulate a head injury from a motor accident and should allow the player to have the ultimate simulation experience!!

In all seriousness though people are asking too much from a console game that costs $59.99, Pc games like Rfactor and GTR etc are really just a development pack used by modding community to tailor it to something that they would like to play. GT5 has to appeal to the masses of people who are not hardcore sim addicts and just want to have a bit of a blast and would never have understood (or cared about) theory and craft in actual motorsport IRL, should these so called casual gamers be made to go and buy NFS as GT5 is too much of a steep learning curve in A spec? Hell no I wouldn't make my worst enemy buy that rubbish. Sim junkies make up a small portion of GT5 sales I'm sure of that.

You have to remember that casual gamers don't want this type of realism. For some it can be very frustrating if they just want to race by not have to worry about racing world casualties. If it was optional damage then its more feasible but forcing everyone to those setting will decrease the gameplay enjoyment for alot of people.

NO comment:sly:

How are you going to argue something if you dont know what one of things are
and obviously its a game so it would be there for people who want it and for those who dont you can simply turn it off

Can't we all just accept that GT5 was released unfinished / under pressure, and almost nothing that was planned was actually, fully implemented?
Can't we all just accept that GT5 was never going to implement anything extra? Time to realize we got duped. It really was nothing more than the usual GT but with PS3 graphics. Same old nice handling/driving but absolutely nothing else. And those who think it was coded from the ground up, yeah, right....

I for one think the interface is a fast improvement over GT4. I never enjoyed bouncing around between the web of locations looking for races I hadn't completed yet...but with that said, they've given us just enough improvement for us to complain about the little things they could have made better but simply didn't.

like some people said it'd suck to have an engine blow-up right at the end of an enduro, but what it they had these options in practice mode? that would be pretty fun if you ask me

Yea I hate to bring forza into this but put full damage and downhift at 160mph in 6th to first and see what happens....

And for those who dont want it just turn it off

Unfortunately this has nothing to do with GT5 or PD not putting it in. In order to have the variety of cars that games like Forza and GT have they have to appease to the various manufacturers demands.

Forza bascially has engine blowouts, down shift at the wrong time and you will damage the engine, eventually it will be nearly un driveable

Exactly I dont see why dont people keep making excuses for PD mistakes..

I call it the GTFF, Gran Turismo Fanboy Force

LOL!

All the excuses that get shown defending a poor quality product. For those of you that code for a living: Would YOU be able to generate this "type" code (dropped promises, repeated missing delivery dates, final product not matching design spec) and still retain your job?

Just something to think about. This isn't a ground up, this is a mid model year refresh and took advantage of a lot of people expecting Something similiar to Prologue or better and got something much less.

I picked up GT to fill the gap until another franchise drops their newest version in November. Not sure it will last me that long. :grumpy:

I believe Kaz said somewhere that the cars will never be so damaged that they stop working completely. That said, it would be cool to have a blow out at 200mph, then using all your skill to avoid a serious crash. 👍

I *did* have something like that happen in the Pratice area. I was running a Same Make race with the '69 Ford GT-40, and worked my way up to the front and had a good lead, when, on the fifth and last lap, I hung a wheel off the outside of a corner. The sand trap grabbed me, pulled me off course and into the wall (this just after the second chicane, where the wall is quite close to the track), but I recovered and kept the car moving in the right direction. I had the damage set to it's highest, most realistic level, and when I got back on course, the car was nearly undrivable. I'd either blown a tire - it was pulling to the left something wicked! - or I'd bent the suspension and mangled the alignment. I still managed to hold on and win, but it was *close*.

I wish the option were there to have this kind of damage available in A-spec.
