Hi everyone, I was browsing Amazon when I came across this wheel stand:

I found it really weird. I wasn't aware that something like this existed, and it's not too bad at $99. Anyone have any experience with this? I reckon that with a bit of modding, wood/steel work and a car seat one could create a decent half-breed cockpit.

Anyone have any sort of experience with it?

I need one for lying down on the bed. Is there such thing as a bed wheel stand?

If you race in your living room on the couch I hear it's great. And it's quick and easy move and store. If you need something a little more secure, or more flexible for use at your desk, or with a chair, then the Wheelstand Pro or RennSport Wheel Stand makes more sense.

I have one of these and that picture gives it no justice.
I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment so building a stationary cockpit is not practical. Well it is to me but my gf hates the wheel as is. My old setup.
I needed something I could move away from the TV and would work with my AK rocker. Since I sit low to the ground I never could imagine a bar between my legs.

I made sure I measured the width of the chair first. The stand offers 2 sizes:
Regular- 18.5 inches across
Big Boy- 20.5 inches across

The Big Boy legs can also be adjust for height.

I almost ordered the Regular Big Boy stand for the DFGT, but then decided to opt for the XL21 Big Boy Stand for Logitech GT-G25-27 Wheels and Thrustmaster T500RS. this was in case I ever upgraded my wheel I won't have to buy an entirely new stand. Mike from Amazon was very helpful with changing my order and answered all my questions. He basically assured me the DFGT would mount up no problem.

And it did, wrapped up the wires nice and neat. Lined the platform with toolbox liner for added grip.

Here's the stand when not in use. Folds up nice and neat. I pulled the legs out 1 notch so you could see they are adjustable. I also had to add 2 small pieces of ferring strip under the clamps as you can see. (wrapped in tool box liner)
The pedals mounted no problem with the factory holes in the stand. I had to drill 2 small holes on the actual pedal base. Screws were even provided.

This stand is awesome, plenty of leg-room, no bar between my legs, my gf can actually walk through the room again, everyone is happy.

To be fair here are my gripes:

Not ideal for multiple users. My friend and I make this work but if a really tall person and a really short person share this stand your going to have to break out the wrenches to make adjustments. Not to mention the wires are wrapped up. I think it would depend to on the chair also. Lets just say making minor adjustments is not easy.

Pedal Platform cannot be adjusted. The design that makes this stand fold up does not allow this. But I kind of want the option to raise up the pedals like on a playseat. But it still works fine. There is a very slight incline. Not a deal breaker at all and even if I could adjust it I'm not sure that I would.

Pedal Platform can slam the ground. Yes sometimes I forgot to lower the pedal platform before lowering the stand and it slams pretty hard. Just wish there were a tighter hinge sort of like a slow-close toilet seat.

Not 100% stable. I would say its like 97%. Don't get me wrong the wheel is very very stable, but sometime driving the Redbull or F10 or any fast car where you have to make extreme cuts can knock it off a little. Now this mainly has to do with my chair having a loose seatcover. But just to note their is some play in there.

Overall I could not be happier. I would recommend this stand to anyone who sits low to the ground and does not want the bar between their legs. Actually you could make this stand work with any chair but measure the distance between the arm rest first. The Big Boy is actually too big for my office chair.

The regular stand might work with my office chair, but it just further stresses my point you must have a chair in mind first to measure.

If anybody is considering one of these stands and has any questions feel free to ask. Other than that I hope you guys enjoyed.

Hi all,

I'd like to share my updated setup. Since I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few people using this wheel/stand combination.

T500RS
Xlerator XL21 Big Boy Stand.

As you can see from my above post I'm transitioning from a DFGT. The wheel hard mounts to the stand perfectly with the supplied hardware. Mount the wheel first since you will need to flip the stand over to line up the holes. Mount the pedals second because they make the stand very heavy and you will have a tough time getting the wheel on. (especially if your alone)

Now about this stand. It's only as stable as the surface you rest it on. Most of the pictures depicting this stand show it on a couch. (like in the OP) That is probably not going to work for a T500. I sat this stand on my couch and the wheel is so heavy the bar sags to my lap, so a stable surface is a must. If you have a couch you could take 2 small pieces of a 2x4 and stick them between the seat cushions where the legs rest.

For me the 2 main problems were the AK Rocker rocked, and the legs were not stable resting on the chairs seatcover.

I stablized the chair with chop blocks I picked up from Wal-Mart. I was lucky enough to even find black ones. Toolbox liner added too for the grip.

1 1/4" caster cups from Lowe's perfectly accept the legs of the stand. They are even a little flexible which also helps hold the legs in place during jerky steering movements.

That bulky powerblock mounts up nicely to the front of the stand. The Primo seatpost clamps were also a visual upgrade. If you own one of these stands and you like the look with aftermarket clamps there is more information at the website. Besides visually looking better they also provided eaiser adjustment one allen key rather that the clumsy wrenches.

Storage.

Overall I'm really satisfied with the stand. Before I purchased the wheel I watched a ton of videos of people using it on WSP and cockpits and I always see the wheel shaking and not being stable. This stand is even more stable with the T500 on it because it's so freaking heavy. The most important thing is where the legs sit. If the surface is stable this thing is not going anywhere.

I originally didn't plan on getting the shifter because the mount that comes with the stand would put it at the same height of the wheel like on WSP. But I recently spoke with Mike at Xlerator and I'm going to be one of the first to test the new mount. So shifter is ordered and I will update this thread as soon as I get to try it out.

I have been using an Xlerator for years. First with a Driving Force Pro in GT4. Now a XL21 with my T500rs and TH8rs. I talked with Mike about a new shifter mount too. But instead I used the provided shifter mount. I drilled two new holes for the TH8rs. In my opinion this works fine.

Mike makes these stands solid. My XL21 with everything mounted up must, weight close to 60lb.

Thanks,playnthru
