Pre-Season Race Summary
The first race was a blast! Had lots of fun with you gentlemen :). Unfortunately, 2 racers didn't participate in this round. As well, 1 racer got disconnected during the race. So far, I have compiled a list of updates we want in future races:

Updates
-longer race finish delay
-1 mandatory pit
-ballast penalty for the winner
-what to do if someone loses connection
-heavy damage
-private lounge instead of public lobby

Other
I would like you to answer some questions related to the race:

1. What would you have done to improve it? (This will be added to the "Updates")
2. Do you think the cars were even?
3. Do you want longer races?
4. Do you want more races? (e.g. 7 races instead of the current 5)
5. What in the "Updates" do you want to implement?

1. Make the race in your private lounge
2. Yes, maybe the z34 has some understeer
3. I like more the idea of a minienduro
4. Longer race finish delay

The pit stop isn't quite necessary. But at that length if you're really pushing it a couple unintentional drifts and you'll be hurting. I was at about 30% for the fronts, and 40% or more for the rear at the end. I can see requiring one, though. Plus if damage instituted some people may get damage through means they can't control and would put them at a disadvantage if everyone else stayed out.

I was a bit confused at the start of the race. I just assumed once I got the the start line I could go. But that gives whoever starts first a big advantage. I like the idea of a pace lap but I'm not sure it's the best way. Unless you made a minimum and maximum speed. Like you must be going at least 60 and no faster than 70 when you cross the line. Too bad there isn't an actual pace car function.

Concerning the debate over which car is best:

The 350Z feels better. It's not quantifiable, it just feels better to me. I actually put down a quicker lap in the 370 in that final race but it does feel like you have to fight it a bit more. Granted, I had a 30 second tune on it. I think the biggest advantage I had in the main race was starting first. I got away and was able to cruise and not worry about other drivers. Driving in traffic is a lot different that driving alone.

Is it because you don't want random people jumping in and out? Well, I was expecting 7 people to show up, but only 5 people showed up. That left 2 spots open for random people to join.

In my opinion, a pit stop would give players a chance to catch up to the leader. Perhaps making the races longer will make a pit stop more logical?

I think some improvements can be made for the parade lap. I still want it. I already made a speed limit for the parade lap (125 km/h or 75 mph). The problem in my mind was that people were not staying close together. There was a huge gap between 3rd and 4th. Also, people didn't know when they can start. Next time, as soon as you see that you are in Lap 2, you may go flat out.

As for the damage, since I consider all to be clean racers, I think it wouldn't hurt to implement it. I just want people to have a chance to catch up to the leader, just like the pit stop. In the pre-season race for example, you almost lapped me.

Do you think that adjusting tire rules for each car would help?

Of course, if anyone can think of a better idea to keep the field even, I'm always open for ideas.

If there were a minimum speed as well, I think there would be a huge improvement. Also, maybe a practice start prior to qualifying. Just so we all have the hang of it.

As for different tires, I am against that. I think the cars are a bit closer than what the race looked like. Like I said, I got in front and stayed there because I didn't have to protect my position. I wasn't always putting distance on second place. The gap stayed pretty steady unless someone had an off.

no mandatory pit stop

heavy damage is fine, i need to learn to drive more consistently anyway

keep the races as is, and just keep this as a pilot series

then, hopefully more interest will emerge and you can manage a bigger one

i watched most of the race

zmikedz kept a healthy lead all race, but was not mistake free

heavy damage would've changed a lot of things for each driver

already penguin you had to pit due to tire wear

anyhow, i think it will be a fun series

i think if it's in your private lobby, or anybody else's, that would be best

and hopefully others will join before the first official race

:)

oh

and the formation lap is good (nurburgring though?)

but i don't think there's a need to swerve back and forth

might be cause of more damage than it's worth

also, from the last position, i noticed that broke the formation and overextended our distances to each other

i think if there's any question about relative performance of the cars, i respectfully nominate zmikedz to test and determine

i can give you mine and you can run a couple laps, see how much worse it is than your winning car

ok goodnight

Hah, thanks for the vote of confidence. If you want to let me borrow your car I would take a few laps in it. I find my tuning strategies are different from a lot of peoples so I'm not sure I'd be able to help much. Send me a psn request. I probably won't be on again til morning, though.

I found that weaving actually did get the tires warmer. I'm not sure the pace lap would have meant anything if the race started on ice cold tires anyway. It might not have meant much but it at least changed the color. :)

Just did a quick test with a controller. 5 laps of each car so the tires weren't yet optimal.

Z32: 1:36:6. Made some mistakes and the only clean lap was slow. I think I can do 1:35:5 with this car.

Z34: 1:34:901 Not much understeer with my tune. In fact even with a controller I didn't have to make many midcorner steering adjustments.

Z33: 1:34:991. This run it felt like the car was heavier than the 370. Back to back the 370 seems more nimble, but I still like the feel of the 350. It's the easiest to drive fast. I could break off 10 laps in a row at that time. In the 370 I don't think I can match that consistency. But for one or two laps I could probably put 2 tenths on the Z33.

Sorry for missing the GP/D run today, I woke up this morning and my cable was out :( As long as the planets align next week, I will be there with bells (or maybe Horns #244) on.

Hello all. I have updated the procedures on what to do if somebody loses connection during a race. Please check it out ;).

Also, I am still open to suggestions on what we can do to make the race more fun.

penguin, where did you post those procedures?

also, i think when exiting pits, we should follow the pit lane all the way to the end of the solid line, and should follow that driving line until the exit of turn 1

that's how it seems to be done usually

Yeaa, with the delayed start it would have meant I'd have to be awake till 2:30am lol. I'll be able to race if it's not delayed

I do have one query, I should have noticed it earlier before signing up. Why is TCS optional and not designated 'off'?

Also, was final decision made on oil changes? If we oil change do we need to engine limit our cars to meet 405 or is the BHP limit going to be increased?

Can you also clarify the following settings in the initial post.

1. Grip Reduction (Low/Real)
2. Mechanical Damage (Off/Light/Heavty)
3. Penalty (Weak/Strong)
It is just that I like to practice a track in 'My Lounge' and would like to know what the playing field is :)

Some racers would probably prefer TCS. I, myself, need it.

They are only allowed AFTER you've driven it once.

Some said that they got over 405 HP from breaking in the engine. I have therefore decided that the HP limit will be 414. It's not like I can enforce this HP limit anyway because if I turn the PP limit on, I can't set the HP limit.

1. Grip Reduction (Low/Real)
Real.

2. Mechanical Damage (Off/Light/Heavty)
Heavy.

3. Penalty (Weak/Strong)
This is going to be turned off because IMO, the penalty system in GT5 is absolutely horrible.

Tire wear is going to be on as well.

I don't have anything against TCS but that explains why I'm able to pull away so quickly out of the corners. Obviously, you have your style, but with racing tires and downforce at max having to fight a bit of oversteer is probably quicker.

Hey Penguin, you may want to put the next event on the online events calendar, that way you may get more attention to the series.

So, I did an oil change on my Z32

with the standard intake manifold, my hp jumped 20 to 418hp, 530pp

what should i do?

by the way

i'm doing about 2:17 around suzuka

with more practise perhaps i could bring that down a notch

As I have said before, I can't enforce the HP limit.

You're allowing full weight reduction on all cars, right? No one can possibly make their car any lighter so you can put a HP limit on the room instead of a pp limit.

Probably.

I haven't raced the Z since last saturday. Hopefully I should get some seat time today.
