The Modern Hot Hatch Race

Welcome! To the first HHL official event, 'The Modern Hot Hatch Race'. This event is a work in progress, with hopefully most of the details outlined below.

Time zones and dates may move upon enough requests to suit the participants better, the list of modern cars may also be expanded.

Date & Time zones

Race A: April 30th, 2pm GMT
6am PST, 9am EST, 3pm BST, 12am AEST (May 1st)

Race B: May 5th, 11pm GMT
3am PST, 6am EST, 12am BST (May 6th), 9am AEST (May 6th)

Circuits/ Laps

1. Laguna Seca, 2.24 miles / 3.6 kilometres – 5 laps

2. Circuit de la Sarthe 2009, 8.47 miles / 13.63 kilometres – 1 lap

3. Fuji Speedway F 2.84 miles / 4.57 kilometres – 5 laps

4. Cote d'Azur, 2.01 miles / 3.24 kilometres – 5 laps

5. Autodromo Nazionale Monza, 3.6 miles / 5.8 kilometres – 3 laps

Qualifying:

For the 1st, 3rd and 5th circuits they’ll be a qualifying, the 2nd circuit will be the 1st result reversed, likewise the 4th circuit will be the 3rd result reversed (please post if clarification on this is needed, I hope you get what I mean).

Car List – In progress, possibly

Ford Focus ST ’06
Volvo C30 R-Design ’09
Renault Megane ’08
Volkswagen Golf GTI V ’05
Peugeot 207 GTI ’07
Citroen C4 2.0 VTS ’05
Alfa Romeo 147 ’06
Fiat 500 1.2 '08
Suzuki Swift Sport '05/'07
Toyota VITZ RS 1.5 '07
Honda CR-Z a '10
Mini Cooper S '05/'07
Honda Civic Type R (EP) '04
Honda Insight LS '09
Mini Cooper S Countryman '11
Toyota PRIUS G '09
Volkswagen Scirocco R '10

UPDATED: All of the above cars hopefully can have a;

Maximum power = 228BHP (currently, might go up)

Minimum weight = 1186kgs (currently, might go up also).

So, if you have a car that can be detuned to 228 BHP, weighs atleast 1186kgs (even after a 200kgs ballast), and crucially is a Modern Hot Hatch (2004+)- please post it, and I'll add it to the list.

What I'm trying to achieve is having cars heavy enough that they can be 'lightened' the lightest cars weight, as well, have the less powerful cars tuned up to be as powerful as the upper BHP cars.

We may lower that floor with some tricks (mostly cutting out the top three cars, I need to do some research on their 'lightest weight').

The eventual idea is to have all cars with the most powerful car’s BHP (e.g. 228 from the Volvo C30), with the lightest cars weight (e.g.. The Alfa Romeo 147 at 1280kgs)

Driving Aids:

ABS to 1, and Off (optional Driving line)

It’s intentional that we’re all using ABS, I think for all of these cars it’s more realistic, since they are modern, when racing older cars, maybe make it optional for all, please post if this isn’t agreeable.

Tuning and Setup:

To simplify this, PP doesn’t matter, instead, we’ll have a BHP limit and a weight minimum, this will allow anyone to go up to the most powerful car’s BHP limit, and down to the lightest cars weight (as with the above examples).

Tires: Sports Soft

Penalties:

Damage: None
Fuel and Tire wear: On
Grip: Real

Race Duration:

Race time will be approximately 10 minutes per circuit, allowing an additional 5 minutes for the circuits with qualifying, with 10-15 minimum overheard, gives us a total of 75-80 minutes, so we’ll allow for 1.5 hours.

How about just any hot hatch within the bhp and kg limit

What are the limits? I going to get my car sorted straight away, cause I want a long time to set it up, can I drive the VW Scirocco R cause I have one ready that I just need to tune to the limits.

*Edit* I can't race on Monday 16th April, can you make it in the middle of next week as that is the only time that I will be availble.

Yes just to clarify, it needs to be a stock car in almost every way, ill update the kgs / bhp to be easier, itll be something like

1150kgs minimum

228 BHP maximum

that should be easy enough.

EDIT:Actually, ill update the main listing with that, and the heaviest car's, 'lightest weight' is 1186 kgs, so I'll update it so you can make cars as light as 986kgs, if they have a central ballast (a ballast without positioning) of 200kgs, with everything inbetween.

So it's stock hatchbacks that fit in the regs

Can we do oil paint and change / paint wheels

Or just any hatchback in the regs

(so apart from tyre no tuning parts at all)

Engine tuning, including all parts and engine performance upgrades and oil are all permitted.

Don't see any problems with wheels and paint either, or aero parts that don't increase your PP (all but a wing), you can also lighten it as long as it remains above 1186kgs.

I'll be there... Probably in a Civic or Golf :)

Can't go wrong with an '04 Civic Type R, great car. And I'm personally obsessed with the MkV Golf GTI :D.

Considering it's meant to be 'Modern' I think any hatchback after '00 should be fine, but when I look at the Ford Focus ST170, I think 'gee, that's getting on' - ideally, within the last 10 years ('02/'03-'12) would be good, but I think that does limit the field a bit, case by case basis.

So basically you can tune to reach them limitations but no modifications that improve downforce

Also are we aloud rm's

Ill have to say no, RM usually uses all sorts of bits to improve the car. So any '00-'02 cars will need to checked for 'modernicity'

More cars. Now I don't know if all of them will be powerful enough to tune up to 228 BHP (Some will need to be down tuned of course). But basically I think my previous year limit of 2003+ was a bit too low, so 2004 is what I used.

Peugeot 106, and Ford Focus RS/ST170 while good cars aren't modern anymore, so as much as I'd like to include them, I don't think it'd be a 'modern hatchback race' anymore.

Hi mate I know this sounds bad but would it be possible to lower the 5 lap races to 3 for time reasons

Also I look forward to it

I think a 1-1.5 hour race is satisfactory, any less and there's little point hosting an event at all

Bump - just a reminder, 1 week til the first event, I have 4 confirmed for it so far, a few more would be great.

why do u make this an modern hatchback league?
i mean, the more vary the better.....

Yes this is a themed event, in the future we may do an open event or a retro, but for the first race it will be modern hatches - please see list above.

Warm up will begin in just over 4 hours, this is my first hosting event, so there it may be a bit longer than usual between events.

Don't forget to get your FR request in before I open the lounge, otherwise I might miss it!

Lounge is up, qualifying will start once we get a few people in.

Well I have work tomorrow, and everyone's forgotten about the race - both races postponed 14 days unless someone posts in here - til then!

Just a reminder, the first race is now in just over 7 days time.
