Originally began tuning the Mazda Efini RX7 Type R FD '91, the Premium one. I've tried looking around tuning garages if anyone tuned this yet, but found nothing. Since I've never tuned anything before I gave this a go, with the help of motor city tuning guide. I started my work, the test track was Grand Valley Speedway. Best Lap Time: 1:48.359 (I've also took the RX7 to Nurburgring for a hot lap which was 6:36.3xx). The aim for this tune was to make it much easier to drive, more stable & controllable, while remaining fast. I'm looking for feedback and testers to give this tune a go and let me know what you guys think of it. Positive and negative feedback is welcome, pointers would be nice also. Thank you guys!

The tune!

Well, hello there! :)

Today I tested your tune, and I'm here to give a review.

So, here goes:

I am not a tuner. I do not know how to tune a car. All my cars have tunes from various people here on GTP (mostly the big names) which of course have been working perfectly. However, I would say that your tune needs a little bit of work more. I tested the car offline in Practice Mode in Nurburgring Nordchleife, aids on with R3 tires and manual transmition. It would stick to the ground as I had hoped it would, and it was surprisingly sturdy, almost like a 4WD. Now, this is not necessarily bad, especially when the aids are off, but I could use a bit of a playful tail. I actually prefer my cars to not be as sturdy as are the 4WD cars, a tiny bit of drift without damaging the tires just to get in that corner perfectly is all it takes. This being your first tune, it was surprisingly good though, It is to be expected as no one can make a perfect tune at first try. Maybe I am the worst reviewer in GTP, but what I am writing is exactly how I feel for the tune. Few things bothered me as well:
  1. Not mentioning numbers in km/h as well
  2. Not mentioning the mileage the car had on it during the tune up
  3. Not mentioning chassis and/or engine restore

It sure is a playful RX-7. An RX-7 which is fun to drive, thus I am not sure whether this tune was used for racing. This is but a review from a person who might be too spoiled from all the big tuners out there  but Im really interested in seeing you becoming better and better. These things might sound unimportant, but it's some of the reasons I go back to those tuners. They just figured it out. I really believe that in time you will become a great tuner, I am after all your friend, I'm only interested in watching you becoming better and hopefully I'll be using your tunes at some point.

NOTE: If more people test this tune, please correct me if I'm wrong, where I'm wrong. 👍

@Above, just saying, but…

No. 2 and No. 3 doesn't really matter much IMO, mainly because it's almost a given that you'd have to do No. 3 on your cars (though it might not be the case with premium cars, which this is), and the mileage doesn't matter that much either on a car which is no where near the power loss limit.

Anyways…I'll test the car out when I have a chance too. 👍

I merely mentioned those points, not necessarily for me, but for someone whose car is not reaching the power mentioned above, thus the transmition numbers might vary since it is not in "broken engine" state.
I also do believe they are not so important to make the review look bad, of course not. Just some tiny touches here and there. Please do test it, I can see you are much more experienced, and please correct me when you feel I am wrong. :)

Hey MC! Nice to see an old friend :D

I've only started tuning a week ago, was reading a couple of guides here which after reading them I wanted to give a shot :). So I picked a car nobody tried tuning. A fully tuned Efini RX7 Type R FD on default settings is just awful, there was understeer and oversteer, brakes were terrible & while in mid-corner, if you'd accelerate the car would throw you off your line harshly. So I mainly concentrated on making this car friendlier & more stable to drive, however the tune isn't quite finished yet, there are still some minor suspension & LSD work that yet needs to be finished (it's about 67% complete). The technique for driving this car is "slow in & fast out" 6:36.xxx isn't too bad for a car with 569PP on the 'ring, some of my +600PP are just couple of seconds faster. The tune may/not work for over drivers, as everyone has different driving styles. Oh, before I forget the car has 130.4 miles done. Sorry for no kmh, here in GB we only use mph so kmh are pointless to us . Thanks MC for the kind words my friend, but I'm not going to be a tuner :), this was just a one try 👍 might tune cars, from time to time, but not regularly  I'm actually thinking of returning in making visual designs for cars in MCLA/ NFS/ Other tuning games :p

Anyways I appreciate your feedback MC! :)

Thanks Onboy, if you could try it out & give some feedback on it it'll be much appreciated :)

Great to see someone new in the tuning forum so let me take this opportunity to thank you and offer some advice, unsolicited of course...lol.

Tuning a street car on RS tires is akin to entering a fire starting contest at your local campground. Your competitor is a 7 year old cub scout equipped with a flint and some dried wood shavings he sliced off with his pocket knife. You on the other hand, have a military style flamethrower and a couple of tanks of fuel on your back. Point is, you can take almost any car, throw RS tires on it, make a couple of adjustments and it'll handle like a dream because the tires so overpower most of the tuning inputs and inherent deficiencis in the car, as to make them nearly irrelevant.

Yeah there's a place for it for sure, lots of online racing is done at this PP level and tire combination, or at least it used to be, but for a real tuning test, take this same car and throw SS tires on it and get it around the 'Ring online in a decent time, or any circuit in the game really. You'll then begin to find all the comprimises you really need to make in tuning a car and you'll also discover there is no perfect tune and no tune that works for every car.

Again, no offense, I'm sure it's great work you've done, but you'll really grow as a tuner, including on RS tires, if you learn tuning by starting with lower powered cars on harder tires.

Thanks johnny for the welcome :)

Yeah, I realized that . When I get loads of free time, I'll re-tune this using SS tires or maybe SH for a better fine tune 👍 in the near future. Now that i've fixed my video editing software, I'll get back to making my arch battles videos here, I'm really behind now :(
