How did you win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, preferable since PD changed the tire ware rates. What tires did you run on, which car did you run, anecdotes from the race, etc. I plan to run it next week as I'm on spring break and I plan to run the factory Peugeot 908 HDi FAP. The car is currently all stock, with the exceptions of the tires, should I be able to win with that? Please share your experiences from the race, it is much appreciated.

Edit: Also, what about wet weather conditions. How much of the race was wet when you ran it and do you have any tips for wet weather racing? And does anybody know the pit tendencies of the AI?

The Pug will do it if you can drive it- it is far from the best handling and is surprisingly evil to its tyres. But the key to the race is less about the car and more about strategy and concentration. 24 hours is a really long time and you will make mistakes, it is just about keeping those to a minimum. Picking a car that is easier to drive than the 908 will probably reduce the number of 'offs' you end up having.

You will win , i've done these twice even before the "suspend" mode. using the Peugeot 908 HDi FaP. Just don't sleep :indiff:

I did before the tyre wear update, and before the suspend feature.

You shouldn’t have too much trouble with the 908 pace wise. However it will be much easier to control a car with less torque and will be much easier on the rear tyres, which is why I chose the GT-One (racing mediums, no added turbo etc).

I spent most of the race short shifting out of slow corners, basically looking for ways of saving the rear tyres without costing too much time, to keep the car balanced throughout the stint.

I am quite comfortable in the 908. I drive it the most and am comfortable with all it's movements. I'm not sure the last time I lost control of it in the dry was. I wanted to run the BMW V12 LMR but since I always use the cockpit camera I leaned towards a premium car. If I could flash lights on the V12 I'd probably run it... But I'm just being too picky I guess, lol

I chose the 908 as well. It was a tyre hungry monster. If I did it again I would probably use the Pescarolo C60 Hybrid Judd as this was by far my fastest opposition. It would have whipped the Toyota Gt-One and the Bentley however due to some kind of gameplay cockup the Pescarolo spent 5 hours doing 50mph. The race started dry but it began to rain soon after. This then dried before it got dark but it rained again for about 3 hours during the night. Come the morning it had dried again and stayed that way until the end.

I'm currently doing this race with the 908 as well.
I can't wait to finish it as I'm completely bored !
It started to rain during the second hour and it hasn't stopped since.
And with only 1h30 to go, I don't think I'll see sunshine again.

Now about my experience :
I had a lot of trouble with tires at the beginning.
It was hard to keep the car on track with Racing Hard on the dry.
Then I put Racing Soft and these didn't last more than 3 laps.
So in the 4th lap, the tires were completely gone in the Hunaudieres. This happened two times and I lost a lot of time, ending up 10th after 2 hours.
Then the rain started and I put Rain tires (obviously). But those were crap as well and the car was almost impossible to handle. Finally, in the evening, I put Intermediates to see and... Miracle ! Perfect tires for wet conditions.
I could do around 12 laps before having to pit because the gas tank was empty after a 50 minutes run. But tires hadn't started to fall yet, they were half done.
So in the night, I caught up with the other cars and in the morning I was 8 laps ahead.
But damn rain ! It's here since hour 2 !
I guess it's bad luck...
Anyway, I started this race last friday and I should finish it tomorrow. I play sessions between 2h and 4h.
Thanks PD for the "suspend race" option.

Anyone else did a 24h race almost entirely in the rain ?

I ran it at last this weekend with Racing Softs ...even though I did not have to since I already reached level 40. I used the Minolta ..awesome car but it chews tires like breakfast snacks and drinks fuel like Tequila shots! Pitted every 4 laps and was able to leave the Audi behind after the 1st stop. Two things I learnt:

1. Easy with the throttle ..especially the way you lift off. It definately has an effect on tire wear. When I started doing this I was able to do 5 lap stints and still had some life left in them when I came in.

2. As someone somewhere else suggested, make sure you choose a car whose sound you are happy to live with for 24 hours. After about 6 hours, the noise the Minolta made started irritating me ...but by mid-race I got used to it and even started to like it. But the thought on my mind was always: I wish I had chosen something with an exhaust note I like. Terrible mistake to make.

Yeah, I learned that you have to be easy on the throttle, especially during the rain.
I can do 11-12 laps before pitting and my tires are 40% destroyed.
I could do maybe 30 laps before changing tires but the problem is with the gas.
I thought that shifting early and being easy on the throttle would make for longer stints but now.
Looks like it only affects tires wear.
The 908 has an okay sound but it wasn't much of an issue for me cause after 8 hours in, I started watching TV or listening to music on the computer^^

Still a fun race to do. It took me a year and a half to do it but I don't regret it.
And I think I'll do the Nürb 24h very soon, in the Schulze GT-R.
I think I'll do a full race report as I go ;)

Currently running the 24 hours of Le Mans myself in an R8 LMP.
Main competition is another R8 LMP which is doing ~4 laps per stint. I do 4/5 laps per stint with medium rubber front and hard on the rear and still have "driveability" when I pit, running about 2 to 3 seconds a lap faster than the opponents R8 in second. I'm driving without assists and since a couple of hours with ABS=0 and I have to admit that I fill my tank completely on every stop because my R8 is killing me on <120kph corners with a nearly empty tank.

I do have to say that it is visually one of the most beautiful races I have driven; the sunset is incredible.
Downside is the lack of opponents. I turned on the minimap, completely zoomed out, to spot the competition ahead to give myself an extra push because 24 hours is looooong (I'm currently 14 hours in, sunrise ;-) ). When I find myself without anyone around, sometimes I push like a madman and do some qualifying laps just to break the cycle.
Another minus is the AI, there is a viper that I "meet" on a regular basis. As I close in, it makes some room for me, but closing into a corner it will slam the door, regardless of whether I am making a move or not...

Contrary to other racers, I have yet to see the first drop of rain, but ... maybe that's a good thing ;-)

Have fun !

Note: Just as some extra info, I could do stints of 6 - 7 laps and just retain my lead but that was a bit too boring. Problem is my tune - read: lack thereof - is eating up my tyres in the last sector trying to set a normal time, I only have straightline speed as my advantage.

Had RS or RM on my vettel.....funny thing is, i did not need to pit for tyres, had to enter the pits because of fuel.

Well i detuned the vettel so much it could reach max 360km/h on the mulsane out of its own power.

I drove it in a Bentley Speed 8 and won with 10 laps free. It rained for the first 2 hours which I drove in wets, then moved to inters and for the rest used racing hard. I got about 30 minutes out of a set of racing hards when driving carefully.

I really enjoyed the night time, not being able to see the corners and instead learning breaking markers was enjoyable :)

I took the X2010. Perfect for the first hour. Terrible for the next 23...
