In Tomhrmns' Beetle thread you offered more information on how to edit the car ini file to make changes beyond the capabilities of MK's program. Other tidbits of info that you offered either directly to me or in other threads about the ini have also been most helpful. I was wondering if there was a guide available on what could be changed in the ini and what the effects of inserting certain values into the ini would have on the car.

For example, I know from your reply to my question that changing line 476 to -1 resets the mileage of your car to 0.0 and changing line 480 to -1 gives the car the full break-in hp.

I have seen other threads that listed what each line of the ini affects but I think it would be more helpful if explanations were also included on what values to change those lines to and then what the resultant change to the car would be.

If this type of guide exists I would appreciate it very much if you could tell me where to get it. If not, would you consider writing one?

I don't believe I've ever seen anything like that. Werner did post one that covered some of the items, I believe it was in the "best hybrids" thread. I will take a stab at it when I get a chance, but there are only a few lines in the ini that it even makes sense to adjust IMO.

Great! Yes, to make it easier on you limit it to those lines that can't otherwise be changed in the MK program. Here's another idea if you're struggling to find the time to do it. We could start a thread detailing the secrets of the ini file. I'll keep track of the contributions from those who would be interested in helping out and you could serve as the "controlling legal authority" (to quote Al Gore) to make sure the contributions are correct. Comments?

Well you edit things in the Notpad that you cant edit in MKS directly. Like the shine code. You cant change the shine in MKS, you have to open the file in Notepad and change the number. The same goes for the Power Multiplier...

OK, here is a start. I edited the ini/guide posted by Werner Winkels to add some more info. If anyone has additional info to add, post it and I will edit my post.

A great start as a matter of fact. A quick glance at it gave me some ideas but I don't have the time to post them at the moment. Thanks again.

If I could request a few clarifications:

Lines 284 and 288 are listed as front brakes part 1 and front brakes part 2. Shouldn’t this be 284 = front brakes and 288 = rear brakes?

Lines 292 and 296, front and rear downforce: I presume that a value of 0 means maximum downforce. Does a value of –1 have any special meaning or is it just a very small amount of downforce?

Lines 332 and 336, front and rear ride height: If -1 = 0 ride height, would a value of 0 give some other result?

Line 440, horsepower modifier: I’m not sure that I understand what you’re explaining.

What I’m doing is working on a different format for the ini explanations and I’ll post it here for comments. Getting the above clarified will help to make it a bit more complete.

Thanks

OK, I fixed the brake lines,

For DF, -1 would equal zero DF

As for the ride height, setting it to -0 or 0 will revert to the max height of -251

For the HP modifier, basically when U start with a new car it is set at -1. A value of -1001=HPx1 so there is basically no change, -2001=HPx2, -3501=HPx3.5, -501=HPx.5

Thanks, Heydu. I have more questions but instead of bothering you I decided to mess around with the ini for myself to find the answers. Hell, discovering new things is why I'm doing this whole hybrid scene in the first place.

Here's a few interesting tidbits that I found while playing around with the ini file, with the intent to eventually generate a basic ini guide. For the ride height lines, 332 and 336, only line 332 affects how the car will look in the game. You can put in whatever value you want in line 336, but the game will draw the car based on the value that you have in line 332. Your handling will still be affected by what you enter in line 336, however. I was a little disappointed that this is the case actually because I discovered this while trying to "rake" my car by having the back end higher than the front end, but no such luck.

Also, the maximum height value that can be put in the ini is -256, which translates to a ride height of 255mm. If you set lines 332 and 336 to -257 the car goes back to 0 ride height and then starts lifting until you get back to the maximum ride height again at -512. Why you would want to put in values greater than -256 I have no idea but there you have it anyway.
