So a while ago when I bought my Mac, I needed MS Office. I bought Office '04 Student Edition when it said "works great on Intel Macs LOL". Of course, it wasn't actually Intel native and thus was slower than god-knows-what. So, I was anticipating Office '08 since it was Intel native and yada yada yada.
So I got a welcome surprise today.

though because I just typed up this whole thread, and dammit, I'd like to whine and not have this entire thread wasted. So in this thread, you are allowed to complain about the pricing of Windows Vista, Xbox 360 and its accessories, Adobe Creative Suite 3, homes, Ferraris, gasoline, and every other thing under the sun.
So I got a welcome surprise today.

Pricing
Microsoft has applied some of the Vista version magic to Office 2008 with regard to pricing. Thankfully, however it's a bit easier to follow. There are two main options; a basic Office 2008 for Mac standard edition ($649 or $399 for an upgrade) or an Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Edition ($849, or $549 for upgrade) which comes with a full version of the Microsoft Expression Media (a digital asset management system that lets you visually catalog, organise and present all of your digital assets) and more advanced Microsoft Exchange Server support, for those that need to plug Entourage into an Exchange server.
Luckily, there's also a Mac Home and Student Edition ($229) that includes three user licenses for consumers and students at home, but doesn't include the added Exchange support.

Not amused.

So basically my entire rant was shot down. I'm still hittingMicrosoft Office for Mac 2008 doesn’t officially ship until the kick-off of this month’s Macworld Conference and Expo on January 15. But Microsoft has taken the wraps off the latest version of Office, showcasing its new features and capabilities.
“This is a really big release for us,” Geoff Price, Product Unit Manager for Office 2008 for Mac at Microsoft’s Mac Business Unit, told Macworld. “We are moving with Apple as it moves forward with its operating system.”
Office will be available in three versions: Office 2008 for Mac ($400; $240 upgrade), Office 2008 for Mac Home and Student Edition ($150) and Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Edition ($500; $300 upgrade).
