Being able to easily save replays is a very significant new addition to the GT series, and one that I hope to be able to capitalize on here at GTPlanet. Before I go to the trouble of creating a new replay forum, however, there are a few things that I would like to confirm with your help.
  • First of all, I want to confirm that we are, in fact, actually able to view each other's replay files without any issues. Although this appears to be a safe and logical assumption, assumptions are just that, and I'd like for someone to post a replay for the rest of us to verify that it does indeed work as expected.
  • I would also like to confirm that we can successfully share replays of different types of gameplay - not just time trials, but actual races, too. (I know that online race replays can't be saved).
  • I already asked amar212 if he could load replays from his early PAL game into the Japanese game, and this unsuprisingly resulted in an error. Now that Spec II has been rolled out internationally, however, I suspect we will have more success but there is no way to be entirely sure. When posting your own replays here, be sure to specify which version of the game that you have.
With that said, please share some of your replays here and let me know what type of success or issues that you run into. The replay files themselves (there are three data files along with two images, if I remember correctly from my Spec I JPN Prologue edition) are stored in a folder on your USB drive by the game. If you're on a Windows XP machine, just right click on that folder, then "Send To ->", and select "Compressed (zipped) Folder". If you're using a Vista machine, select "New ->" and you will find the zip option there. Once you've got the replay files bunched together in the ZIP file, just attach it to your post here. Thanks for your help - this should be interesting. :)

Sorry about that, Sybawoods - I made a few changes and you should be able to post zip files up to 1 MB in size now. (This goes for everyone, anywhere across the GTPlanet forums. :))

Forgive my ignorance Jordan, you lost me when you said that the PS3 stores replays on a USB drive. What if I do not have a USB drive set up; where does the PS3 store the replays?

I don't have my PS3 back yet, but I believe what it does is storing the saves onto the HDD, as normal.
If you have a USB storage device, you can then copy those files onto it (on a certain folder it creates) and use it on a computer to upload them.

Again, I'm not positive, but I think this is correct.

It sounds like it's not quite as easy as saving gamesaves to an SD card or USB thumbdrive...

It's the same thing. Instead of selecting your gamesave file you choose the replay file, you get the same options to copy it.

Does anybody else have problems opening the F40.zip in winzip or winrar?

Here are some of mine from the JP Download version. All are played with Logitech G25

@ Jordan: Should probably set up a format standard to allow for less confusion... I don't think my format with all the sub-folders is ideal. Anywho this is no different from importing a save-game or UT3 mod. Make sure your replays are set up with proper folder structure (eg. PS3\SAVEDATA\REPLAY_DATA in my case it goes like PS3\SAVEDATA\NPJA000bunchofnumbers)

First up:
-Amuse S2000 - Race - High Speed Ring II - Untuned, Manual, No Aids, Professional Physics, 5 laps, AI=91
This is a powerful demonstration of GT5P's new AI. First lap constists of an EPIC battle between me and the Blitz ER34. Throughout this struggle I remain only inches from the rear bumber of the ER34 without ever making contact. The driver of the ER34 demonstrates both defensive and agressive AI to an almost human like capability. This whole first lap is best watched from In-Car or Roof-Cam of my S2000. Note the struggle between the Mines GTR and the Viper SRT in front near the end of the first lap; they seem preoccupied by eachother and notice me coming up behind far too late to make any difference. 2nd lap constist of a drag race between me and another ER34 on the straight at the end of 2nd lap (best watched from TV cam view). Throughout the rest of the race pay attention to the actions exhibited from both the cars ahead and behind through the rear view mirror; such as utilization of drafting techniques and so on.

This particular replay is such an advanced demonstration that I've even considered making a new thread about the AI. It seems that only the Tuners exhibit the most advanced AI as they are experienced drivers and the other guys in the stock cars are just your regular trackday Joe. It seems they only respond if you are driving realistically... if you are driving erradically they're not quite sure what to do with you and just let you pass (I wouldn't want to try to block a maniacal driver swerving about in real life either).

-Stock FordGT Timetrial - Eiger II - Untuned, Manual, No Aids, Professional Physics: 1:17 still 1st (and only) in rankings :(
Madness... but clean driving no less.

-Stock FordGT - Timetrial - High Speed Ring II - Untuned, Manual, No Aids, Professional Physics: 1:17 1st

Art Morrison Corvette 1960 - Timetrial - Eiger II - Untuned, Manual, No Aids, Professional Physics: 1:21 1st
Very cool car and great handling!

Unfortunetly, i can' extract the save file from this zip

No tuning for me til I can find a translation of the Tuning Menu :(. Havn't tried the Ford GT 1 spec race yet, but I will try stock. All the above replays were made yesterday and were practically first laps so havn't really had a chance to get fully used to them yet.

Edit:
Unfortunetly, i can' extract the save file from this zip

Now try :) ... first I had them zipped with 7zip but now I have them zipped with winrar... I hope these are named right though... I'm having a hard time figuring out what is what in the filenames... could someone please let me know if they work and if they are the right ones I mention in the description?

Edit 2:
some more

Amuse S2000 - Timetrial - High Speed Ring II - Untuned, Manual, No Aids, Professional Physics: 1:13 1st
Very fast car... I've taken most corners wide to keep speed... as PD's standard racing line for HSR is not ideal for this car's speed.

Stock RX-7 - Timetrial - Eiger II - Untuned, Manual, No Aids, Professional Physics: 1:20
And of course I've got to have my RX-7 :D

This is my first video, It's of a fast lap or two on High Speed Ring on the Japanese GT5:P Spec 2 (the free download). This is one of my favourite courses, so I hope you enjoy. So far after racing online with other players I've found this car to be one of the fastest. Feel free to comment.
P.s. I know you guys might be a little lazy so, I'm going to give a link to the same video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEXJFNQYiag I'm not trying to defeat the purpose of this thread, it's just that some people might not want to take the time to plug in a USB drive.

Ok, now i can extract the file with winrar. Thanks

You should add ".zip" to the files you unzipped. But unfortunately Japanese replays can't be viewed on my PAL GT5:P
These replays are japanese ? Damn.
Thx anyway 👍
