im so sick of restarting the race cos of this bs. you made a good game and you put that in there and now its not so good anymore:guilty: i was realy looking farward to this game:grumpy: realy hope u dont have it on GT5. dont think i'll be buying it then. i keep getting the blame for some AI noob cars ramming me. + see cars breaking down way to early just so i'll get a penalty... understand why you put it on the online bit. but singleplayer. o BTW luved 2,3 & 4

Get to know the course. Know what the AI do and most important know their line (as they think they weigh 3 tonne and on rails). When you digested this information passing them shouldn't be a problem and of course no more penalities ;)

My favorite is when you come round a tight corner to meet an AI car pulling back onto the track. It's impossible to avoid SMASH.

Not only do you loose stacks of time due to the impact, but to add insult to injury you get a a 5 second ramming penalty for good mesure, thanks a bunch.

Stupid suicidal AI drivers, I hope the moron died in the wreck!

@rapidone..you say its impossible to avoid smash....you cannot steer arround them???workes for me ....lol.
spyrrari.

It needs some work the penalty system, also had some penalty for ramming when it was the AI that was ramming me ahwell , its just a computer game

Also the shortcut penalties.. Sometimes i go off the course a tiny bit and come back (without gaining any advantage) and i get penalized... Also the "ramming" thing is annoying. And Ghosting... Don't get me started on that :) Online mode - maybe, but single player (which should be racing simulation) should not be present. Hopefully their next update with damage will fix this!

It needed work in GT4. It should've been corrected this time around.

In all honesty, the penalty system was the main reason I barely played GT4. It was absolutely unfair and all too abundant. That they still haven't yet corrected the system REALLY pisses me off.

In the northern european version of GT4 I've played penalties were only present in the driving missions which I cleared but didn't like anyhow.

In GT5P the penalties annoy me in an unpresidented manner.
WHY(!) should I get the fault for some piece of **** AI car ramming me?
This is perhaps the worst "clitch" I've experienced in any GT game.
Avoid them you say? Not easy when they come from behind in my dead-angle.
Just get rid of PD, for gods sake, it does make it more realistic or fair (except online), just makes the game and AI seem stupid.

I'm struggeling hugely with the pp.700 races in S and the F40 one lap challenge because of it. Much more than I did in the GT4 driver mission, I thought they sucked immensly, then I experienced Level3 Penalties on GT5P.

The penalty system wasn't in place for much of the game...

GT4 only had it in rally mode, and yes it did not work properly, now it works way beter, but still not near perfect but , r.e.l.a.x.

What planet have you been playing GT4 on?

The penalty system is present in ALL arcade races, if, it is turned on in the options. (Can be set to OFF/SPEED LIMITER/FORCED PITS)

How does it work way better? Should i post some replays of me sliding into a wall at 200mph? (and not getting penalty ofcourse). Penalties and ghosting should be really taken out of the game. Damage should fix that, as the penalty will be the car getting smashed.

Havent played arcade games so much, at least not last 1,5 years :sly: so must have forgotten haha, well in the career mode only when doing those 'rally events ' had it didnt it, now im questioning my self lol

@Scratch: I get most of the time penalty's is i hit other cars or hit a wall for a long time, in gt4 it wasnt there (career mode!), but now i feel sometimes you get to much penalty, the penalty is not good yet, but better then in gt4, but that is not very difficult :sly: and yes damage would fix the whole penalty thing but that is still a long time from now ... Also online ppl may crash you just to see how the car will break OHNOES! :scared:

I REALLY DO HATE THIS GODDAMN PENALTY SYSTEM ... GRRRRRRRRRRRR
The last turn before finish line, a goddamn AI car and the ************* penalty system ... boring.

:nervous: the penalty really makes me made yes everybody is rite about the online mode there should be penaltys but in race mode there should be an option to turn the dam thing off ITS MY GAME LET ME PLAY HOW I WANT TO PLAY:grumpy:

Does anybody think that with damage will come a fee to fix the car after the race which could become annoying like on pro street

i agree with the penalty system....its crap
especially on the ferarri overtake 15 in S class challenge....winning that just wasnt any fun with the amount of times they would knock me off the track giving me a collision damage penalty then a shortcut penalty to follow with it.....that pretty much means race over.

Wouldn't be so bad if it was as a result of your own errors but because of muppet AI drivers? Its incredibly annoying.

Granted, they are a bit better than previous GT's but sometimes... well they are just plain bonkers and should be black flagged and permanently banned from the race track!

Also hope it goes the distance when damage is implemented. It shouldn't be needed online either if they work a bit on online lobbies so we have more choice on who and where we race.

Hmm so PD put racing penalties in GT5P .... what type of penalties? Is it similar to the racing penalties in Forza Motorsport Series, or something different? GT5P is a over glorified demo of GT5 that will be out around a year from now so things could change or not. There's nothing wrong with penalties in my opinion. If the GT series is the "Real Driving Simulator" it should simulate what happens in real life.

hmm.., i like the penalty system somehow. i always know exactly what for im getting em( if im getting em ), also i think the AI is the best i ever saw! you just have to give a little room for the other racer, so will he.i love how they make the same mistakes i'd do otherwise! battles with the AI, overtaking each other like 20x per lap was so much fun! i think C B S A races can be a very good lesson for online mode and overall driving skills and to have respect to your opponent, not jus ram him off because you maybe could go faster!
also wtf is forza?? ( soccer)? :sly:

GT4's AI was much worse than GT5P. They always kept to their line and rammed you whenever you were in their way. AI was also much slower getting on the throttle after corners besides making many other stupid mistakes (like not pitting when they should at the nurburgring and then being unable to control their cars).
From what I've noticed so far, AI in GT5P is still slower than you through the corners and they also don't seem to slipstream. On the other hand they swerve to avoid you many - I'd say most times - and usually only ram the back of you car if you break too early.

As for the penalty system, well, sure in GT4 was very unfair but it didn't play a major role in that game - and in Arcade you could always turn it off.
In GT5 Prologue it still needs a lot of improvement but I can't see it as something too annoying. It makes the game harder but that is a good thing IMHO, and as someone said you can always learn and predict what their going to do next. The worst part is online, surely, and it'll have to be improved in the near future. Maybe it's just me, but I find it a lot easier to "forgive" a machine than a person!

I can easier forgive a person, since I doubt they do it with intent, and if they do it intentionally they will get their reward in hell. With a machine it bugs me more because not your fault or some other unlucky guy. When they slide of track and try to get back in the driving line as fast as possible by ramming you and giving you the penalty it just fundamentally WRONG! Me getting the blame for some AI ****-up makes me wan't to throw my controller through the wall.

The penalty system is to simulate real life but alot more milder. If your racing on a track and you get 2 wheels off the track your penalized, 4 whels off and your done for the day.

Same thing goes for crashes except when you hit someone your done for the day. Go to a real racetrack and youll learn how much more aggressive you try to be in games because its not real. Drive in the game like its real life and it will enhance the game in return.

I've only triggered it several times so far... if you drive well then you should never make it appear. Although, I haven't been trying hard for gold, so I suppose I would have more contact if I did. :p

The only troubles I've had is when exiting a corner on Daytona Speedway - brush the wall a tiny bit and you receive a penalty. And on Fuji I've had a car ram into the back of me and I get the penalty. :dunce: Fair enough when you cut corners a little or wall ride, but these are quite over the top.

Let's hope PD improve it. I can only imagine how much more annoying it would be including damage if they didn't improve it.

Legally speaking its PD's/Sony's game! You have just purchased a licence to use it and nothing more!

But I do agree with others, the penalty systems does require an overhaul, and hopefully it will come with the launch of the US game or with the fall update!

The only thing I really feel they need to get right is a system that is able to accuratly determine who's to blame for the ramming.

The penalty system is annoying at first, but after a while you will get used to it. I like it now :) Makes me try harder to do a normal race without bashing and cutting grass. But i admit it is really annoying when AI misses some the corner (Suzuka chicane, Fuji turn 3) and cuts straight through the racing line in high speed. But most times you can see the car going way off, and slow down to watch the car do the madness.

But we shouldn't have to slow down because of them. In a real racing situation people don't drvie like the AI's since they'd get blackflagged cutting the line like that. And if they hit they'd get the penalty(blackflagg), so the way things stand for GT5P at the moment it's anything but realistic!
The wallbashing penalty and the cutting penalty I like since it's plain cheating, but the system should be able to differentiate between your fault or the AIs fault. A simple programming that gives the AI the fault if it's just been of-track would be helpful since that's when they ram you 9 times out of 10 atleast.
