It'd be great to see that reach production! It doesn't really look that bad either. Here's hoping Honda releases it

Interesting vehicle. definitely something to keep one's eye out for: a better version of an already fabulous (but aging...well) car.

-> I won't consider this as the 'direct' S2000 successor. The overall styling apes the next-gen Z4's cruiser-like profile, not the 'harsh' pure breed sports car that the S2000 is famous for.

FAIL :yuck:

1. I love the way it looks even though it looks similar to the Corvette's front nose.
2. I do not want a V6 as much as I may want one Honda needs to keep developing the VTEC I4. Maybe increase the displacement to 2.6~2.8L and give it some more torque.

Otherwise I really like it, and if gets more interior space I'll love it as I'll be able to comfortably drive it. :D

I agree. Without the more classic looks of the S2000, it won't be "right" at all. Especially if they're ditching the I4 in favor of a V6. Personally speaking, it was that choice by Honda that made the S2000 far more "unique" by comparison to the Z4 and 350Z, and at least in my opinion, made it a better car indeed.

I don't know for sure, but wouldn't a considerably higher revving I4 have worst emissions than a moderatly revving V6?

Well I really liked the S2000 as it is, but maybe its just getting old now. The successor does look quite good in that photo and with the new NSX in development, it could only get better for Honda....... 👍

if the V6 can rev over 8200rpm its alright with me
Agreed. How does a V6 Vtec sounds like? :D Maybe they can up the ante and build a 2.4L 280HP V6? But it would be interesting to see how the car would rival up with the other cars in its class....

As far as I'm aware, and from what the press are suggesting, the S2000 successor might look very much like the OSM concept that was shown at the Brit motor show and elsewhere:

The one thing that the press weren't sure of is whether it would actually be RWD or FWD - the OSM concept is FWD, and a hybrid. The OSM is also more Mazda MX-5 sized.

The OSM concept actually looks like it is most likely built on a Civic chassis, and might be a taste of what upcoming small sports cars like the "CRZ" will be like (OSM = del Sol? ).

Good point, but as they're unlikely to have both an S2000 style roadster and another open top sports car in the range, it's fair to assume they'd be rolled into the same car.

True.

I am not the greatest in modern automotive tastes, but that design is the only one that does not trigger memories of other design cues from other cars from other companies, so I think it's a fine-looking machine. An aggressive V6 can do wonders in the engine bay.

Looks like a cross between and Audi and a Peugeot.

Unlikely is an assumption. If they will have an S2000-type car and a del sol type car in the future, they're not going to be within the same market segment or price range.

The OSM (from the proportions) really appears to be based on the FWD architecture underpinning the Civic, which indicates that it would be competing with the likes of the Focus and Eos cabrios, while the S2000-replacement will likely be RWD if Honda wants to compete with the Z4. At this point, though, nobody knows anything for sure.

+1 100% completely agree.

Emissions? Its a sports car, leave it out of the emissions debate. Let Honda make another econobox hybrid to offset it. :D

Strictly speaking, compared to the rumours that it would become a 2+2 cruiser, I'm quite pleased that the looks are just polarizing rather than compromised.
If they are going to put a V6 in it, just slap some left-over Honda NSX engines in it.

Honda... the company most people love to hate or get sick of. Well, I've loved the Honda S2000 since seeing it in pictures. I may have overrated the aspect of it having more horsepower per liter than most other cars. Most performance types will say that only the S2000 and NSX are the only cars from Honda worth caring about. My personal favorite S2000 is the Power House Amuse Honda S2000 GT1- perhaps the ultimate S2000. I had a tough time getting inside the Honda S2000CR at the 2008 Houston Auto Show with that hardtop. Almost as if it begs you to get rid of the top off so you can let your hair fly (unless you are bald/balding or have an afro).

Now it's time I slam Honda for a moment. I've been disappointed with the styling of the latest CR-V and even the Honda Accord. So I have a little doubt that newer Hondas can be designed better. This S2000 successor looks pretty nice to me. The headlights look like a deviation of the latest Accord. I'd make the side design a little cleaner, even though those fender flares add character to the car. I'm not sure if I'd keep those extra lines on the front hood/bonnet. As far as power goes, 240hp has been this car's horsepower numbers. I say they bump it up by 15 or 20 to make the car a bit better as a performer. Somewhere in the range of 250 to maybe 276 would make the car better. Otherwise, its handling abilities are amazing.

I'll be interested as to what becomes of this.

That design looks really clean in the front... But they need to get there act together in the back. I agree 95% with John here, but I love the look of the new Accord Coupe :sly:

I believe it looks like it's got Toyota MR-S wheels. Also, the chassis is all wrong because the wheels are way inside the fenders. The body also has a short overhang like the MR-S and the exhaust comes out in a place very similar to the MR-S.

Just wait till you see our Road Tax! Emissions are a huge thing, espiecially if you're paying £400 a year before you've even paid for insurance, petrol and servicing!

[EDIT] Though drops off to £150 for '09-'10

The road tax on my 1.6 Focus is £190 per year, kind of gets rid of any good feelings about my no claims discounts. Bear in mind that the Focus isn't an all out uneconomical car and it should give some perspective. Though my neighbours Aston V8 Vantage only costs £300 per year to tax.

How does that work on older cars, like from (say) the early 90s or so? I mean, they would obviously emit more pollutants, so is there like a statute of limitations on how far back the emissions tax goes?

Doesn't affect anything before 2001. For cars before 2001 there are just two tax brackets, split by capacity at something random like 1550cc. My current car is a 1998 model and a 1.3, so it's in the lower banding and stays there.

And before about 1975 ish road tax is free.

The front-end of that OSM concept is amazingly, jaw-droppingly sexy. Why can't more cars on our roads today look so good. Wow, just wow.
