It's been announced elsewhere, but not publicly. Since its now almost a month old and growing as it should, I can finally announce something that makes me really happy.

It's name is "Zephyr". No idea if it's a boy or girl, as only a DNA test can prove it.

It's a big announcement on our part, as My wife has had it's Dad as a companion for nearly 15 years (he's in his mid-40's), and it's Mom came to us in horrible condition nearly 8 years ago.

Here he is for all the world to see.

I'll post more of the story when I get time later tonight.

Massive congratulations! Zephyr is a great name for a bird like that. I know what a huge amount of effort and care went into this! Nice job to all four parents.
:)

What kind of Bird is it?
D'oh! Zephyr is an Umbrella Cockatoo. Thanks guys.

He's not much of afast mover at this time. Standing is a concept he's still practicing.

Given a few months, he'll probably be unstoppable.

. . . . he'll probably be unstoppable.

Or she, as the case may be.

I had a pair of cockatiels some time back, kept finding tiny little eggs in the cage. Made the cutest little omelets!

KIDDING!!! JUST KIDDING!!!

We did find eggs all the time, but never had any hatch.

Those would be expensive omelettes.

How old is that little cockatoo? I
It was born on February 7th. So, just under a month old. He started standing on his own two feet today. Tomorrow, he'll likely start walking around on own. it'll get tough by the end of the weekend, as he'll be really interested in the world around him.

More of the story tomorrow.

So I imagine it's pretty unpleasant to touch. He/she looks like a dragon.

Congratulations, again, Alex! :D

Zephyr...cool name. It does suit a boy though, but if the DNA test proves it's a girl, then that's OK too. ;)

He's/she's got a face only a parent could love... But, I'm sure he'll/she'll grow into a better one.

Congrats on the new birdie.

Could you show us a picture of the Parent/s. Congratulations on the new member of the Family.

Here's an old image of the Proud Parents. I have one at home, that I'll pop up later tonight.

Scary looking little guy, isn't he? I'm getting the impression that its hard to keep them alive at their early days?

The parents are beautiful but as much cant be said about the off spring. Its growing feathers, in a month it will look great I presume.

Just a quick life update. We're 95% certain that Zephyr is a Girl. We'll not be 100% until the blood test.

This is her today, at nearly 8 weeks old.

Now teach her to say internet memes and make her famous.

Hey, nice to see the plumage coming in. She looks cute!

That's gonna be a beautiful bird, is she fledged yet?

What's the plan when she's fully grown? Will she get along with her 'rents?
