Knocked out my GTS race last night. Way different from the previous races. They slipstream like crazy. Felt like a football with all the AI punting going on in the turns. Worst thing about it was trying not to make contact with cars ahead of you as the AI is bumping you from behind until things get sorted out. Going into pit and got slammed into wall, but it missed the front half of the Ford GT so I didn't get the Penalty Pit, THAT TIME. A few very minor offs. Might run one more after the LMP race.

Tues am update. Finished LMP race. Room for improvement, same as GTS class.

I finished my GTS run, and I'm pretty pleased with it. The only incidents I had were when I apparently got my left rear tire about a millimeter into the sand at Dunlop and spun, losing about seven seconds, and when I got three wheels in the grass exiting Maison Blanche and snapped sideways without spinning, thankfully managing to turn the car enough to hit the wall on the left with the rear and not the front of the car. I was also very consistent, with all my flying laps within 1.5 seconds of each other. What really set this race apart, though, was an amazing start in which the AI (whose starting order turns it into a very dense wad on lap one) somehow slowed each other down and allowed me to pass all five at once between the two chicanes on the main straight. (Just tell me that the dusty stuff on the edges of that straight count as track! :scared:) Interestingly, though, I didn't actually win the race, with the CLK-GTR being a little too fast to allow that.

For both classes, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out the best tire strategy. I actually thought for a while that something unusual would work well for LMP, but it didn't, and the obvious strategy is indeed the fastest.

I may or may not get a chance to compete in this race... my wife and I are in the process of moving so I may not have enough time.

Good luck to everyone! Have fun!

Gave the race a try last night. Had a pretty good run. Didnt touch any grass, gravel, walls, or AI at all. No spins either. I'll give it another try though and see if I can go any faster, as after seeing the quallifying results im probably going to need to do more than I did if I hope to challenge for the win.

Wow. I sure as heck can't compete with such perfection. I just did an LMP race, too, and while I made no major mistakes, I made so many small ones that I highly doubt I can come close to east's time. I kept pushing too hard and running a little wide into the runoff areas, for which my self-inflicted punishment was to let off the throttle for a full second or two, and those add up. There's a certain total time I bet you beat but which I missed by a bit (you can probably figure out what mark that is). I'm also curious to see your tire strategy when the results are up.

The AI are a bit frightening in this race. I can't wait to see what happens in PAL, where AI tires wear faster, but in NTSC, the Group Cs are literally drifting around every corner on their second lap on a set of tires, starting at Indianapolis. They aren't really that slow, in fact, but it's unnerving to have a Toyota 88C-V sideways through every corner of the esses a few feet in front of you. Thankfully, they all predictably spin off to the outside of Maison Blanche and you can get by. Also, the R89C displays some strange behavior throughout a portion of the race, slowing down to a very slow speed in the middle of straights; this has been reported before, but it's still weird to come across a car going about 50 mph in the middle of the Mulsanne straight.

Finished LMP 2nd time. Room for more improvement. But probably not enough to run a 3rd time unless I have time after 2nd GTS run. Ran into the same scenario as Austin343 with the AI. Except I had two spin out in front of me during 2nd lap. One on each side and I had to thread the needle. Not as fast so I just picked my spots when the dust cleared. Ran 1/2 race with test tire scenario. No good so started again and switched back to 1st race setup.

Thurs am update. Finished 2nd GTS run. Diff strategy. Improved time. Will see if it pays off with Gold. LOL.

Just got my first run in at this. Even though I was pretty slow and had a few spins, I really enjoyed it:). I think the fact that i've got the real Le Mans on the telly helps:tup:.

I'm gonna do another run tomorrow, and hopefully I can knock a whole minute off this time!

Same here with regards to getting a clean run in today. Hopefully, I can have another crack at it tomorrow with an altered pitting strategy.;)

Inspired by the real Le Mans race like many of you, I also tried again with the aim of getting a cleaner race than last time, and it was going well until a spin and wall hit at Indianapolis on old tires a few laps in, at which point I quit (because any wall contact would make it a less clean race than my last, barrier-free attempt). I doubt I'll get a chance to try again. :indiff: It's a pity, because if I somehow eke out a victory (which I still very much doubt), I won't feel like I deserved it because of all the times I ran wide onto the runoff, even if I did make sure to overcompensate for it by slowing down. That's because I feel like the amount I was pushing the car, which produced all of those minor offs, probably gained me time overall because the gains on clean laps outweighed the losses from self-penalties. :yuck:

Of course, my attempt will look appallingly dirty compared to east's admirable, extra-squeaky-clean victory (for which I commend you 👍). Even if you miss out on the best race time, you will certainly earn a moral victory for your tremendous efforts. I mean, really, not putting a single wheel on any grass at these speeds on this track for 18 laps, while simultaneously avoiding any contact at all? That's truly incredible, and it should really earn you some sort of compensation in points. 👍

Just did a run myself and while I'm proud of the strategy I put together, I hate that I've had four minor offs so I'm gonna make another attempt with 0 mistakes. This is my best shot at at least cracking the top 3 so I know I can do better then this. I've already pulled off four laps that were much faster then my Qualifying time so I know I got more then that.

Managed to run two races this week and they both felt pretty good. Second one better than first, so submitted times. Good luck, all!

Going to take out my Peugeot 905 now and run it around la Sarthe for fun.

ERacer 👍

Finally, I've done it. I hated that I only improved on the overall time by 9 seconds then by minutes, but its better then nothing. I'm also very proud of my fastest lap, which was ironically on the last lap. I felt like I just won the 24 hour race when I caught the 2nd place car and lapped him right before indianpolis. I really hope this is at least a top 3 as I've had to restart over and over again and it'll be tons on work I've done for absolutely nothing if I don't make it up there.

Well, mixed emotions about that one. I really enjoyed the race, did a very clean run with no spins, offs or anything. However my race time was badly hampered by the massive tire wear I got off the Audi - only managing 3 lap stints with hard tires :(.

Congrats however to everyone who finished, that was quite a tough weeks racing! Particularly well done to Austin343 tho who has closed the gap in LMP to just 1 point with that comanding win!

Well, that's a surprise. As I mentioned before, though, I don't really feel like I deserved it :yuck:, because seemingly every other person ran an exceptionally clean race while I consistently had trouble going slowly enough to keep the car within the white lines. I was aiming to beat the hour mark, but only ever got one full run in. It also means east is going to demolish us all next week with a 1% weight penalty versus my 5%, although with no penalty at all, I think you have a chance, too, ABud. 👍

ABud, you are very good at picking up suspicious times. I just did some calculations for Danny12 based on his fastest lap and found that he would have had to run his fastest lap every single lap as well as have sub-30 second pit stops to get his total time. :boggled: He definitely may have remembered his fastest lap incorrectly and meant a 3'34.158, or his total time incorrectly and meant 1:09'36.141, but it definitely looks bad right now... And if what you were worried about was not that, but rather his speed, then you should ask him whether he made sure to not count the red tarmac and similar areas as track.

Also, the reason for your terrible rear tire wear is the bug that affects all LMPs at high enough speed on soft enough tires, which is that they devour rear tires on straights at 200+ mph. Hard tires survived six laps on the GT-ONE (albeit with an iffy sixth lap, as I found out the hard way on my second run), but I bet that only super-hard tires on the Audi would have been insufficiently grippy to be unaffected by the problem.

I knew tire wear would be an issue with the Audi when i picked it, i've just not managed to be quick enough to negate it... yet ;)

With Danny12, i'm sure it's just a simple typo - easily done.

Man I wished I could have done another run!!! That was my only run...
I need to pay more attention...I ran out of fuel @ the Porsche Curbs. :(
luckily it was on the lap I need to pit for my tires!

I am very happy with my runs. Would have liked to try another one in the LMP class, but ran out of time. 2 each in each class in a week is tough enough. With my driving style and speed, I probably could have gotten away with 2 pits. I was pleased that I was the only one in the GTS class to pit only twice. Eight seconds out of 103%! Let me run it again and send it in last Friday. LOL.

Now onto Apricot Hill.

GTS results and points now finalised :)

raz_10, you must of lost loads of time running out of fuel - i bet you were screaming when it happened!!

Alright, I finished 2nd! I wish I would have figured out how to only do two stops, but the way the compounds were at the time, Not much I could do.I could only get three laps when I put Mediums on th front and softs on the rear as the wear seemed evenly matched at the point. I'm glad I did finish in the top 3, it shows now that even after all the time I've had off from here, I still got it. Can't wiat for the next race.

You bet I was it was lap 15 too :grumpy:
I was ahead of the 2nd place he was somewhere between Mulsanne and Indianapolis when I ran out. He finished 7'21. I'm sure it would have been a lot closer in the end!!!
50 m/h is so sloooowww!!!:ouch:

Great race Austin, and well done on getting your first win in LMP 👍

Also, well done to RACECAR (the guy I said was gonna beat me here) for getting second.

As for me, I wish I could of done better, but it was clear to me after qualifying that a win here was going to be impossible, and I knew RACECAR had it in him to do well here even though he didnt do as well as I thought he would in Qualifying.

In the end, 3rd was the best I could hope to get here, so i'll happily take it.

Well, I'm glad my second run with an altered 4-stop strategy was better than my first. The change in what tire sets to use was probably a big factor in going from 3rd to 2nd in the final class results.:D:tup:

On to Apricot Hill!;)
