I was using an old IKEA desk when I got my G25, but the low shelves really made it difficult to find a comfortable place to put the pedals (and I had my shifter attached to a piano bench that I put beside the office chair I was using).

Then I decided to remove the bottom shelf (which was probably a support for the table). It worked great for about a couple months until it collapsed entirely (the wood splintered around the nails holding the desktop) so I decided to build a cockpit. Here's what I came up with:

Prices (all in Canadian Dollars):
Leather Nissan 300zx Seat: $25 on craigslist
Pipes & Connectors & Glue: ~$70 at Home Depot
Various Screws, Nuts and Washers: Free
Wood from the broken desk: Free

Some interesting thoughts about the build:
- I used 1.5" ABS pipes and glue (looks the same as PVC pipes but they were black and the PVC pipes were white)
- Notice the fuzzy pads on the bottom of the frame in some of the pictures, this makes sure the floor doesn't get scratched and lets it slide easily for portability and storage
- The piece of wood holding the steering wheel in place is held to the frame by rectangular U-Bolts (Found in the Doors and Windows section of the hardware store). It is further secured by a screw through the wood and pipe to stop it from spinning from the weight of the wheel.
- The shifter stand was one of the most difficult pieces to get right as it kept trying to spin around the pipe until I gave it legs
- Make sure you have a supporting plastic pipe under the wood holding the seat or the weight will be too much for the wood
- My seat had a damaged rail so I had to mount it awkwardly (see the picture from behind the seat)
- The piece of wood holding the end of the pedals was a last minute edition because it seemed like the pipes alone weren't strong enough to support the force of me pressing the gas :)

Nice job:tup:! I bet it has low weight and is easy to build! Is it stable for hard steering-wheel playing? Any creaks?

It's really light-weight and easy to move. I have no stability issues everything feels rock solid but there are a few creaks when you move it around (nothing of concern)

Great rig I think I am going to build myself something very similar. I am currently using and ironing board to hold the wheel and gear stick with the pedal on the floor so they move and sitting on a folding chair which quickly makes my back hurt.
