It may have been a fast FWD for the time. However, It's an Oldsmobile. And any Oldsmobile that's not considered a "muscle car"=uncool.

This thing is seriously uncool, simply for the fact calling a 4 cylinder FWD 90s econo-box a 442. Is just wrong and a slander of a proud name.

The 442 came from the car having a 4-cylinder engine with 4 valves per cylinder and 2 camshafts.

This car isn't cool though despite having a slightly cool name, Quad 4 just sounds cool for some reason. But then you see what it actually is, an alphabet soup car name from a company known for making old people's cars through the 90's. Honestly the only cool Oldsmobile I can think of is the Aurora and that's only because of the L47 which was also used in the Shelby Series 1...one of the coolest cars ever.

As good as the drivetrain is and how decent it looks...it is still an Oldsmobile and they are never cool. And the name while 442 makes sense to most of us it just shouldn't be listed in the name.

Meh.

Yeah, it's got a nice Twin-Cam 16V engine, it's a reasonably quick car, but it just doesn't do a whole lot for me.

Looks cool, and there are hints about a hidden potential beneath the hood. That's all I have to say about it.

Cool.

The name 442 was originally used on Cutlasses of late 60s and meant 4 barrel 4 speed dual exhaust . They just changed the meaning for this car.

There are many cool 442's, but this is not one of them. Although it has sleeper potential, its still a late 80's, early 90's Old-slow-mobile which makes it...

Uncool.

Poor ty, inherited the thread with cars like this and the escort.

Uncool, doesn't have any traits that define it enough to be Seriously Uncool.

I don't care about what CAN be done to the car to turn it into a dragster, the fact is that this is a 4 cylinder Oldsmobile that (in my opinion) looks boring

Well, I'd consider this a Sub-Zero car on an entirely different scale of measurement (one that only a Jalop would understand, I believe), otherwise I am stuck with a vote simply of 'Cool.'

Seriously though. An awesome engine that was arguably ahead of its time (for GM), a pretty solid chassis, the only real limitation being the awkward Oldsmobile design. Chevrolet offered the arguably better Beretta GTU/GTZ at the time, which would have bested the 442's performance, but wasn't nearly as nice of a place to be in.

Sub ****ing zero.
By the way, the weights wrong, they weigh in at 25xx lbs.
And mention should be given to the variable rate steering.
And they'll dust a Mustang GT - or Trans-Am/Camaro of the same year - how in the hell is that NOT cool?
Also, the fastest 442 ever ran about a 14.0 in the 1/4, so I can't see how the name is inappropriate in any way.
I guess I'm partial due to having owned a non 442 Calais with the 160HP Quad-4 and a brother having owned 3 442's - R.I.P. thanks to a mack truck, and a buick, perspectively.:grumpy: And finally, having nowhere to put the last one which was broken... He's still a dumbass for getting rid of it though.

Not sure exactly what "would have bested" means, but just in case, the beretta weighed in around 300lb heavier, and had the standard 180HP HO Quad-4. And I don't believe came with the muncie-getrag either.

Something similar, same basic engine, has some mods, obviously, God I Love that sound.

My dad used to own an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme fifth generation. So I have some experience with this kind of car (not common in Europe), voted cool, due to very US and probably good to drive.

Cool because it's a car I could use early on in GT5 for the FWD events and such, and because I like tuning cars, I also happen to like cars that have more to gain. With the suspension and brakes this would have had, it's got lots of room to improve.:sly:

Aesthetically it isn't very cool. Sleeper cars especially FWD are great NOBODY expects them. So if I could vote I would vote cool for sure!

I didn't realise you could actually dispute this as anything other than seriously uncool.

...and then you woke up from your drug induced space trip. That car is 2,800lbs and would only "dust" the V6 models of the Foxbody and Fbody. The Foxbody 5.0 and Z28 would leave it in the dust.

voted cool for the obscurity, I did not know there was such a version of an otherwise lame car.

They know how to drop a shell on a custom tube frame drag car?
If you call a mostly stock (but of course modified) chassis with stock interior, no plastic body panels and no plastic windows a shell, then fair enough...
