sorry i just wanted to ask this question, with gran Turismo 5 almost 100% assured of the 24 hours races i just wanted to ask will your ps3 Run the 24 hours smoothly without overheating? will the GT driving force hang in there aswell.. Because sometimes after 4 hours playing with the GTDF the smell is really intense and it smells like its melting inside..

Thanks..

Where do you keep it?

How is the air flow inside the room its in?

Is it the older model or the new slim?

I have never heard of any overheating of PS3's, if it doesn't get decent air flow overheating could occur.

It should be OK, just remember to disable automatic turn-off after being idle for 1 hour.
Or else, if you pause the game for too long, PS3 will shutdown.
I haven't seen excessive overheating on my PS3 even after running for a day.

i hope they'll put a save feature. Doing a 24 h for me it's like keeping the ps3 on for a month. And if you pause for too long ps3 will shutdown, well.. i'll never do a 24h.

No it won't. I think there's an option that you can have the automatic idle shuntdown on, with the exception of playing movies or games. Then it won't shut down.

It'll only shut down if you explicitly tell it to in "Power Save" settings. I have mine set to three hours for iPod charging, and I'll be sure to turn it off once I have my hand at the 24h races.

^^ Yeah, I'm begging for a pit-save feature since GT4, I never finished any 24h enduro all in a-spec, my PS2 always overheated, or someone turned it down while I was sleeeping or the the power was cut-off or many other things that never allowed me to do a 24h race properly. :grumpy:

Save the game at the pits at each 2 hours of play. That would be enough to me.

I think the PS3 can handle heating up.
Warhawk uses a battery of PS3 machines as a server which are running 24/7, so I don't think overheating should be a problem in a well ventilated room

I really hop have this 24h real time race.

-We can have a relay online (with save game) with for exemple 6 players from 4 countrys, and have a private room race type, with save, and at each time one guy can be connected for continue race and the last inrace driver go to sleep or do other things.

-And have a relay in live at house (like i do with my cousin.) 1h to 1h. x12 or 3 laps to laps.
But have a reduce 24h time can be nice too. For exemple 6H race for 24H. 2hours in diurne (Day), 2h nocturne (Nigth), 2h diurne... with accelerate day cycle.

They'r lot of possibility to have a 24h race online and of line. With saves ofcourse and in privat room.

Little off topic, but has anyone notice how the 24 hour Le mans feels like while playing GT4? It was exhausting, boring for a long time, and competitive if you play on the same level as the LMP without Turbo charged engine or any advantage options. And I felt the same thing while watching the 2010 24 hours of Le mans.

Anyway, my PS3 was really hot when I played MGS4 for 6 hours straight, and it suddenly shuts down for being too hot? I wonder what GT5 will do to my PS3 when I start playing the 24 hour series.

I have allready play 3 day (not day after day) with more 17h non-stop open PS3, on GT5prologue, with my cousin driving relay. No bug, no freeze, no crash but lot of biere, snak, cofee, and cigarette.

I never switch my PS3 off. If I am not gaming/watching movies I leave it running Folding@Home 24/7/365 and its been running fine for 3 years now.

It should be fine with normal room temperatures, If I were you Just place a fan in front on the PS3 just to make sure.

I doubt you won't be able to exit and save on a pit stop, all they got to do is delete the save as soon as you load it and put the file somewhere hidden to prevent usb copy. You can disconnect the Driving Force Wheels from the PS2 during enduros, same applies with GT5:P, you pause the game disconnect and reconnect whenever you want. You can also switch from steering to controller and vice versa on both systems.

same for me :)

And when i think about it Sony did well in construction of high quality product that is ps3.

i used my ps2 for 24 hour straight races many times, never had issues. I usually turn off my PS3 once every 14 day or so. Ofc it can, it's fabricated to be able to run 24/7 for years :) - about the wheel i cant tell, but i used several wheels for 24 hour races over the years, and never had issues.

I can already see people accidently leaving the automatic shutdown on, leaving the game on overnight and coming back to find it's been switched off.

I'm going to bet there will be a number of threads of this nature when GT5 comes out soon...

I used to play the PS2 version of 24 Hours of Le Mans and enjoyed it tremendously. (Still have the game). The graphics were second rate and the controls a bit jerky with the digital input ..... however, the game had awesome gameplay and included every aspect mentioned in this thread such as:

- Ability to save game progress simply by pitting and picking up a 24 hour race where you left off even after turning the PS off.
- The ability to run a 24 hour race (with all light and weather transitions) in either 24 hours, 12 hours, 6 hours, 2 hours and one mode whereby you could run the 24 hour race in 24 minutes, where each minute represented 1 hour :)

There is no reason why PD can't deliver on all this !

I think I will run a few 24h races yes, in fact, I suspect I will run quite a few.

I have my ps3 next to a radiator and have had it on for whole days before with out problem. RELAX it will be fine the ps3 can cope with the heat than most laptops by my experiance. My laptop is on a stool which blocks the air vent so it sometimes shuts down, it doesn't seem to harm the computer though. Or even better there could be a save function at pit stops so you can turn you ps3 off. :)

i really so hope we can save a pits and come back coz then i could do 24hr over 3-5 days which would be more fun for me :)

My ps3 recently died with the YLOD (yellow light of death) so i am curious about this as well....God i hope there is a save race progress option...

Been 2 years now with my PS3 & the fan keeps coming on for awhile now. It kinda doens't worry my because I know my PS3 is strong, & the temperature in my room isn't that bad. Should survive 24 hours (I did more!) with no problems.
