Hello all I am new here, but have loved GT since PS1. I have always wanted a Cockpit but never had the means to do one. So now I am starting my cockpit. I have ordered 1 3/4" steel tubing which should be here next week. I went to the junkyard and got a seat out of a Nissan 240sx ( I had to save money somewhere for now). Today I just ordered my GT3 RS wheel with clubsport pedals. I will be posting pics of the build for anyone else that would like to try this. Sorry for the longwinded post but none of my friends like GT as much of me so I had to tell someone that would appreciate it. I look forward to racing with you guys and gals.

sounds great, keep us updated. I've just started mine as well. Have a G27 and a Kirkey aluminum racing seat. Gonna start construction soon. good luck, Jeff

Yeah it was either get a good wheel or have a nice seat. I figured the wheel is more important for now, plus my birthday is soon after xmas. So not too long until i have a good seat. The one from junkyard is in great condition though, clean and doesnt smell and it was only 20$ so that made the misses happy. We all know that is job #1.

Well, my steel arrived. My wheel also, I ordered a GT3 RS, but a Turbo S arrived, I am trying to decide if I should exchange it or not. The CSP are awesome looking, and the weight makes it feel very stout. Very impressed so far.

I have got all of the pieces of the base, and the top part cut all at 90*. My father in law is a great metal worker so he will be coming over tomorrow to get all my angles cut right (the first time), because I should only have around 5 - 10 feet of tubing left over, so no mistakes. I've never really worked with metal tubing other than copper, and definately not something as elaborate as this, so I need all the help I can get. I did get my seat cleaned up and the bottom of it painted to stop the rust that was on it. The wife wouldnt be very happy if some rust pieces fell on the floor.

I did go and get the rest of the hardware like the hinges and turnbuckles that are used on the Virtual Roadster. Only other problem is deciding how long I want the steering and pedal platforms, and find a way to mount a footrest like the one in real cars next to clutch. So hopefully I can finish it tomorrow but I think it will not be done till next weekend.

Pics coming tommorow

Update: Round tubing turned out to be more of a pain the I had originally thought. It may look better than square, but you pay for those looks. Suffice it to say not much got done yesterday. But I did figure quite a bit out to prepare me for actually getting everything measured and cut right. So tomorrow no work after school in the AM, I plan on at least getting the base and the top piece done.

Then I have to figure a way out to mount the top to the base. So this will most likely have to cut into some playing time this coming weekend. But I guess it will be worth it in the end. .

Update 4:
As hard as it was to pull myself away from GT5, it had to be done. The tubing wasnt as bad as I had thought, after I got into a groove working with it. As I said before its all 1 3/4" tubing. All that I have left is the front upright bar, and make my side uprights at the angle instead of at 90* like they are now, and make some adjustable legs. I figured it would be much easier to have the steering deck where I wanted it and then make my side supports at an angle. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon I can finish all of the metal work and get it prepped and painted. Then it is off to the races.

Also have to mount my turnbuckles and wheel and pedal decks. They will be fully adjustable as well. Then have to come up with a cupholder that doesn't look out of place.

Whoa! That thing is looking great man! So what are your plans? Are you going to polish? Paint? Powdercoat? It's looking great man! Keep us updated!

I wanna powdercoat it, there is a great powdercoat place in my area. But it is a bit too expensive at the moment. So I am gonna paint it with that hammered rust oleum paint for now.

I got one of the upright bars put on today at the angle and the front piece is done now. So hopefully tomorrow I can do the other side and get the decks mounted.

Almost done all that is left is to put some legs on it, and sand and paint. Put it in the house last night to see how tall I wanted the legs and I really wanted to use my wheel. Hopefully Sunday the paint will be dry and I can take a final pic to post and then I can really start playing the game.

Finally, almost a month and some 70 hours later. I have finished the rig. Or at least finished enough to move it into the house. Now I have to get all the settings on my wheel set correctly. I still have to run my wires inside of it so they're not showing, and find a cupholder, and mount a bracket for a controller, and my shifter. But that can all wait, because I want to enjoy my GT5.

Very nice. I love the sleek simple design, and I bet that seat is damn comfortable.
