Driving Force GT - wheel wobble ?

My brand new Driving force GT has a violent wobble, even when driving in a straight line. Is this normal ?

I've shot a quick video on my phone, this is with all aids off and FF set to 1.

I've tried it on amatuer/profession/sim mode, with all the aids on/off one at a time, and all together. I've tried restarting the PS3, and it seems to calibrate normaly, when turning the PS3 on, and again when GT5 starts, but remains almost immpossible to drive with.

I've used wheels before with PC/xbox and PS2, never seem this problem.

Any ideas folks ?
 
yep i think thats normal. its just reacting to the road surface, looks like you are driving a pretty fast car there. on another note, you used it with your xbox i didn't think it worked with the xbox?
 
Get in your real car and take it to 150km/h,
and then let go of the steering wheel and see what happens :)


you can set the force feedback a little lower in the option menu.

also, this isnt so bad, just wait untill you start doing rally races.
 
Without more info, what I see in the video looks somewhat normal and like jimmywizz said, the wheels reaction to the track surface.

I found it amusing that during a replay (not from replay theater) my wheel was moving around a lot more than in your video.
Reminds me of the same thing in NFS Shift.

I also found it amusing that the Suby WRX sti or the Mitsu Evo (I forget which in GT5) has the same wobble it had in Prologue.
It was on High Speed Ring, I forget which test.
Watch your wheel then, wow.

I can let go of the wheel at 150km/h in my real life car, and it just goes in a straight line.

That was with minimum FF set in the menus.

It still does it, to a lesser degree with a little 60HP Diahatsu at 100km/h.

I'll try it in some of the other events, and see how it goes.

I'm tempted to take it back, if only the shop wasn't out o stock :(

I really don't suggest doing that in real life even though the car does go straight. I almost got myself killed doing that once while I was lighting up a cigarrete - see why it's good I quit smoking? because smoking kills!

Anyway, i went over a slight bump in the road and that violently changed my direction to the other side of the road. Luckily I was able to get control back in time and there was no oncoming traffic. Anyway, that's when I learned that you should always keep at least one limb (the left knee might work as well) on the wheel at all times.

if you think thats bad you should see what it does in NFS Shift :scared:
take it back to the shop if you like, but to be honest I dont think you will find a new one reacing any diffrent.
On a sub note: my first DFGT became juddery during the calibration after about three months. called logitech, told them what was wrong and they sent me a brandnew wheel, didn't even have to sent the old one back. So anyway it sat in the box for a couple of months gave it to a mate (as it still worked apart from the spipping motors) and it seems to be working fine and has done for the last 3 months!
 
The problem is that the motor in the wheel isn't sensitive enough to keep it centered, so when it drifts left, the wheel gets pushed to the right past center, which then causes it to be pushed to the left, causing the oscillating motion you see. I have a G27 and experience the same thing. On PC, you could adjust the feedback variables to minimize the problem, but GT5 doesn't provide any of those options. Obviously, the FF forces are designed for the resistance your hands have on the wheel, so letting go causes an exagerrated response. But even with my hands firmly on the wheel, it's hard to keep a perfectly straight line with FF > 5, as the wheel pushes you back with too much force even if you're slightly off center. Try turning the FF down, or playing with Power Steering on, as that reduces the steering force.

You must be high or something, lol. There is no xbox in the video...And GT5 can't be played on xbox. Hahaha!
 
It's the force feedback from the bumps like others said. If you have the wheel perfectly straight on a smooth road the wheel shouldn't move though. Mine doesn't.

I also have a DFGT and if i take my hands off the wheel it does the whole wobbly thing.Just take note...don not take hands off wheel and be prepared to muscle the wheel sometimes.
 
I think the straight line thing might be the dead zone problem, where it can't really go exactly straight... the car goes from side to side a little bit to keep in control. Or at least that's what I experience with my wheel.

This. While it's true that there should be "some" movement left to right due to the road surface, it should by no means be this violent. And I do mean "violent". I shouldn't be losing control of my car on a straight away because the wheel is forcing me noticeably left and right. It might also be partly due to the "play" in the wheel. It's not exactly tight against the turning mechanisms when you turn the wheel left and right. There's probably close to 1/8th turn of play in the turning mechanism linkage (not that it won't register it, the car on screen reacts to these tiny movements). There needs to be a deadzone tweak option, or what I've been saying all along, the ability to just set 0 so it doesn't do force feedback. There are some races that I simply lose because of the FF, that I do far better without it. Also very fatiguing after 4-5 hours of play. Yeah, yeah, realism shmealism. It's still just a game, so give us the option.

This also. I own and drive a 2003 Cobra and a 2005 WRX and have had both up to over 150mph and they by no means have the violent jerking that these cars exhibit in game on a clean race track.

The wheel wobble in GT4 on a long straight was HORRIBLE. It would just shake from side to side and basically make the car slalom everywhere

GT5 has a pretty realistic feel to it with the wheel. Yours isnt really wobbling, you're just not holding it

The wheel simply fights until it happens. Unrealistic. Does it even with the setting at 1 (I deal with and play it at 2 because 1 is just "too" loose and unpredictable). It's to the point that I'm wondering if all the play really is a defective wheel, but my store is out so I can't exchange.
 
Lower your Force Feedback down. I have mine at 2/10 and it's much more manageable, but still fun.

Elkay, this is the point I was trying to make with the video, even when strong arming the wheel, it violently tries to wobble.


Thanks for the feedback everyone, but I'm going to take mine back, after playing with FF on 1 for 30 minutes it was making my wrists hurt, and that can't be right.
 
1 is weakest. I find that the weaker you put it though, the less sensitive and accurate the feedback becomes, just worsening the problem because now the feedback has a noticeable but not quite predictable delay. I really hope they just give us the option to turn it off. In most cases, that's how I'd rather play if the wheel is going to fight with me that much.

Just unplug the power to the wheel.
It will still turn but without the feedback.
I think the buttons work too, but I'm not positive, it's been a couple years since I had to unplug my wheel.

Sadly I hadn't thought of trying that. If that works, you are my hero! I will try when I get home from work!
 
It feels weird at first but it does work.
I had to unplug it for a while after having surgery on a shoulder.
