So after an hour yesterday, and 1/2 hour today, trying to beat the Samba bus challenge, the best I have been able to do is come out of the last turn in 4th place. There were probably two times when I clipped #3 too hard and might have come out of the turn in 2nd, but... "Disqualified" yet again.

I was very nearly going to check youtube for a video on this one, and coming out of the last turn in fourth place yet again, I was distracted, did not hit the reset button, rolled over the finish line and guess what I found out?

THERES ONE MORE LAP! DOH! :ouch:

Yes I have been resetting the moment I come out of the last turn on the first lap, this whole entire time.

I despise this 🤬 event,.

Yeah it's a beginner event at the Top gear Test Track, but this thing is hard as hell to beat. The AI in this one is absolutely horrible. You go to pass one and you get side swiped into the cones ... game over ... DQ'd.Oh yeah, the brake checks they give you are pretty good as well. DQ'd , again. :ouch:

I find it funny how they can go run over the cones, shortcut corners, run off the racing line and still stay in the race.

In all seriousness : How in the world does a person win this event ?

I think the lotus challenge will make you more frustrated. I eventually had to stop doing it with my wheel and do it with the controller.

Like I said, you can actually get into 4th place in the first lap. I am completely new to PS3, so I haven't looked into exactly how one goes about taking a replay from GT5 and putting into video.

As soon as I find a step-by-step on how to do that, I'll send up a video & commentary for easy gold on this one.

The only event I had to turn that Skid Reduction thing off and, so far, I have been primarily using a controller... bronzed it, don't plan to look at it again for a while.

To me rally event on Eiger Trail K is most frustrating race ever. But I learn very much from it...So it very mixed feelings.
I tried both of the TG challenges and immediately quit the race...:yuck:

The lotus challenge really sucks, best I can do is 2nd and that was after a few hours of trying. For the samba bus challenge, you can make quite a bit of progress after the first corner. After the first corner, keep on the gas until you get to the right hand turn by the tires. After a few tries and see how the competition drives, you can cut from the inside left to the inside right and not make contact for a DQ.

The Samba bus was pretty easy, that elise challenge that comes right after though, oh man.

Although it is annoying as hell, it contains some clever lessons worth learning.

1) the racing line (displayed line) is just a suggestion and a poor one at that.
2) It demonstrates how much faster you can be when breaking carefully at the right time, slip-streaming & minimal steering.

Just notice early on that the other cars are completely scripted & do exactly the same thing over & over again and then take each corner 1 by 1. I recorded my gold event, but have no camera with a long enough movie mode to record it for you tube.

There are several winning routes through the AI script though.

I found the samba bus challenge quite easy. The lotus one gave me a lot of trouble till I turned the traction control to 3 this helped me enough to gold it. My indicators of good progress was 11th place by corner 1 then 7th after the chicane thing(2nd corner) and 4th place by end of lap 1 gold was in the bag.

The Samba Bus one is easy gold... The Lotus one though, I haven't even been able to bronze. Too frustrating.

It took me a while but I figured out how to do it. You should be in first or 2nd place at a minimum by the end of the first lap.

1. Don't use your breaks at all unless you are approaching the Hammerhead.

2. Careful drafting or slipstreaming is key to gaining pace and sliding past your opponents.

3. Ignore the suggested racing line.

4. Take your corners wide and fast and carefully control your skids/slides into corners. This requires delicate throttle control.

5. Don't oversteer too much.

Combine all the above techniques and with a little patience you should be in first spot by the time you get to the 2nd lap. I know its not easy but if you think that this race is tough...try the next one with the Elise. That I am still yet to crack. I suspect it will require the same techniques as above but with a lot more accuracy.

Good luck :)

I managed to gold all three of the Top Gear challenges... although it did involve a lot of cutting corners and riding other cars to allow me to take corners at 120mph =D

Pretty much all of the challenge in the TG events are learning which route to take. Once you know where you make your moves it's plain sailing.

Don't forget being pushed into the distance marker approaching the Hammerhead.

Those. Things. Don't. Move. Damn near flipped the poor little Samba.

And listen to what the other are saying. It took me a while (and I had a bit more motivation than most, I'm guessing) but it's not all that hard if you can remember what the other Sambas will do and when. For example, you can need to slipstream between the Hammerhead and the Followthrough, but as you approach the Followthrough, you better already be out from behind the Samba in front of your or you'll be up his tailpile.

Be aggressive, be smooth and remember where you need to be and when. 👍

the lotus challenge was the hardest yet. I was 0.00.200 second slower with everything off other than abs +1 to gold so I cheated and turned on skid recovery :)

I know the Top Gear Test Track like the back of my hand now due to all of the attempts to gold the Lotus challenge. I finally got it.

👍 Hahaha same here, finally got it a couple days ago.

Those type of things usually happen to me.
On the other hand, a few minutes ago, a friend encouraged me to do them all in gold, and thanks to him now I got the Top Gear test track, and a standard lotus elise. The last one was a piece of cake, since the AI does all the work for you by destroying itself against the swimmy thingy.

yeah i was able to get 3rd place with everything off. it was really funny too, i couldve gotten second but i messed up in gambon.

got 1st with skid recovery on. there really was no other way...

as someone in another thread pointed out, the best way to tackle the first corner in the elise challenge is to hit the brakes and press the gas slightly as you take the corner. this prevents the car from spinning out as you break and steer at the same time. surprisingly, it allows you to overtake the 11th place elise.

The first corner with the Samba you can really fling it into it and slide it out. You should be able to overtake one car here then, veer to the left to take the next bus, right for the second to thrid and cut into the corner and again fling the van around the tyres "barricade". That should give you at 3-4 cars already and you can slipstream up to the next corner....

The last corner you can normally take a few buses too.

Once you've passed a few it really becomes so much easier. If you get stuck with the idiot AI bumping into you and slowing you down then restart. These pus boxes need to be moving and hitting the brakes or being bumped unnecessarily can kill your lap.

The only reason I want to gold this one is because im trying to gold everything. The prize is worthless. I hate this track. It's just a big asphalt area with cones everywhere. DUMB! Racing online somebody chose this track and after 2 laps of people hitting cones and knocking them everywhere I didn't even know where the actual track was anymore!! And its a figure eight? What is this, demolition derby?

But I do like the microbus. I had one when I was younger. Always wanted to get another one.

I spent about an hour and a half on the bus challenge. I personally thought it was more challenging then the lotus event. The bus is just so dam slow and once you mess up omg it takes foreverrrrr to get the race going again. The expert event should have been the lotus event. The expert event is a literally a big joke.
