Hey all,

I'm looking to start a race series to begin after the new years.

This will be a 10 week race series emphasizing driver skill and a little bit of luck. :)

For those who have played online we all know there is "recommended garage" which has a list of cars to choose from. We all have access to this garage and, thus, we will be using cars from this garage. It will have a "spec" feel to it in that only the car chosen will be raced for that week. This means NO money is spent on your behalf! Hopefully the variety of cars and tracks will keep racers interested in the series in addition to the people they meet and race with.

I believe lunchbox147 organized a series like this for UK racers with great success.

Ideally I'd like to divide the US in to three areas consisting of West, Central, and East divisions purely for ease of organization. When we mix the three together there are bound to be scheduling conflicts. If anyone would like to partner up with me to take over WEST and CENTRAL division, PM me. I do have a few people in mind, though.

Logistics and structure will come in due time. This is merely for gauging interest for a league of this set up.

Question!
Does everyone feel like this should be done in a competitive format or would simply racing head to head in its purest unadulterated form with no tuning or car advantage be the finer option?

Interested. Central Standard timezone racer here. Usually online around 9PM CST each night.

I like the idea greatly. It test the persons skill as a "driver", not a "tuner" or anything like that. Everyone will have the exact same car, exact same tune and the same settings. If you win you can walk away knowing you were the best driver. If you lose you can't blame it on the other persons tune being better either. I'm in depending on day/time.

I'm in. I like the world circuit courses. Pacific Standard Time - woot. It seems most ppl who are starting leagues are on the East Coast.

A 87' MUGEN MOTUL CIVIC SI RACECAR league would rock. You really can't do to much tuning because everything is already on the car. Most users should have it since you win it sometime in A-Spec. Only has 215hp. Anyways.... it would be fun. Only downside is it's a standard instead of premium car.

For the people who express concern about any type of tuning

Every single person racing will have the same car as you which means that any car they have issues with in terms of coping with their driving style may have the same effect on another driver. On the opposite side of the spectrum there may be a car you excel at while another person suffers in hence the variety in cars.

There are cars that have adjustment in them like the WRC cars and GT500 cars. I, personally, have no problem allowing them to be used as long as a majority feel it would be fun to have them.

I'd like to keep costs to the best price possible; Free. I'd only allow cars everyone can access for free through the recommended garage tab located in online races.

That is why I like this challenge.

I'm ready.

Can u change it up to some cars we can do adjustments to?

The whole point of a series like this is to drive the car as it is, so I wouldn't think this is going to happen. There are lots of other race events that allow tuning.

Just for kicks last night I made a room for the F40 out of the recommended garage, then set the regs to no aids at all and sport medium tires. I didn't realize until last night that you could restrict the room to one car.

A bunch of people dropped in, but only one stayed to race. The F40 on sport mediums probably is never going to be the most popular race, but it's a fun combo. It got me thinking of showroom stock races such as this one, they're super easy to set up.

I guess what I'm trying to say is count me in 👍

Races like these are real hard to find. With all the hype about tuning and using the nicest fastest car to set the fastest lap, people have forgotten about the driver aspect of the game which is what I really wanted to highlight in a wheel to wheel scenario.

If worse comes to worst I'll set it as a US general race series and not divide it between coasts. I'm sure we'll at the very least have 8 devoted players willing to compete in this type of series. Considering time differences and scheduling conflicts and the fact the racers set the series, we'll set up times that are MOST convenient and try not to disclose anyone. Having said there there has to be a small amount of sacrifice in terms of time for people to make. I'll also account for this when setting up the points system by having a combination of points dropped. This may the lowest score received in a week or a combination of one highest or two lowest, for example. The structure is still being worked out so don't quote this as an actual ruling.

Yeah I would definitely throw my hat in. good ideas as always man.

Since there's not too much distinction in this series yet I think you could aim for it to be sort of like a premier racing series valuing consistency, racecraft and sportsmanship above all else. It wouldn't be a bad reputation to run with. you know, no gimmicks just the purest racing possible in GT. Oh and karts? I'll just keep dreaming about that one while you get set up.

There's already a lot of possiblity in the Garage rec. as it is but I'm hoping that they add more cars to it in the future. Always nice to have more options.

I'm thinking of putting up one of my more expensive cars as a prize car to this series.

By expensive I mean anything along the lines of a Peugeot RACE car or FORD Mark IV expensive.

Karts would not be a bad idea to throw in as another flavor of variety. IF there is a demand for it I'll consider it Wardez.

I'm in as long as the scheduling works out. I can make every race any night as long as it doesn't start till 7pm (PST). I know that's 10 on the east coast.. so if it doesn't work out that's ok with me. I work till 6pm. Mon - Fri. saturdays and sundays are completely open for me. Keep me posted.. :) Sounds like fun.

Still looking for ideas, suggestions, etc.

There's a lot of work to be done but I'd specifically like to have this series be accepted by people as a FUN series and less competitive.

Many could also look at it as a way to improve their skills since there is now an equal playing field. So you can now gauge yourself against some of the (hopefully) best racers on GTP.

Alright. It's been a month since the last posting on this thread. I'm sure there's enough interest to get this down. I haven't forgotten about the people who had interest in the series.

Question!
Does everyone feel like this should be done in a competitive format or would simply racing head to head in its purest unadulterated form with no tuning or car advantage be the finer option?
