Setup: I'm in a weird not-so-good mood. I also view threads at 100 posts per page. And I chose not to have any posts emailed to me by the server. And no, those three comments don't have anything in common other than setting up the following paragraphs.

When I read threads, especially on this bulletin board, I rarely read more than 10 or 15 posts. When the thread is especially long I may read the first 5 to 10, and then the last couple. Is this normal? Do other people do this as well?

Also, when a thread starts to grow to a certain point I almost always refuse to post to it because I know no one will read it. And if they do they probably won't respond to it. And if they even surprisingly go that far, I will probably forget about it and never go back to see what they said if in fact someone has responded to it - probably because I couldn't find it anyway.

Sometimes how far I read into a thread is based on the length of posts. If there are a bunch of short posts I may scroll through them to find a meaty post and read it. Then I'm probably done, unless the topic is inspiring - not often at the GTP. Once again, am I normal? I figure this is because I don't really read much other than chat. If the first post of a thread is really long, do you read it or just go back to the "new posts" page? There was the "Religion and Philosophy" thread that I posted heavily to in which I read all of 200+ posts up until my last post in that thread. I gave up at that point.

I also find myself rambaling frequently. Sorry.

when i see a new thread normaly read the firts page, and if i think is good or i can have a good and friendly :argue: i post there.

if the thread is about pic and is too long,i just see the pic nad maybe read a few post.(just a few)

when i see a thread like : how many replays can with get, i never post or go into that.

i just go to learn something new or even to a few funy's threads or just to exchange diferent points of view ( sometimes i'm right and sometimes wrong)

i'm a lot of time on :GTP: but i'm a very bussy person. i come here cuz in daily my free time ( so short) i try to take a litle piece of conversation with people's of :GTP: and that make feel so good. ( i mean i can ask or help to someone, that is nice for me )

this site is my house and only club on the net. i can go to a lot more but allways comback here.

(back to the topic) i don't like the persons who allways are posting 🤬 just for keep the ave of post so high.( please stop that 🤬 ) that is one reason why i don't comback to a few threads.

btw you are o.k everybody have he's owm method for everything they make. ( he's owm way)

How's life, Loud - you've seemed a little 'different', lately.

Ups and downs I suppose. I usually have a better time of it if I've been working out, which I haven't, so that might have something to do with it. Or maybe the fact that my running buddy isn't running with me. Hmm ...

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured - about the same as me.

F50: I assume English is not your primary language? I think it's pretty awesome that you're making this website your "home on the Internet". Most native English speakers don't take the time to learn another language, but from my experience most people who don't speak English take the time to learn it. I think we should all learn at least one additional language.

So I've been told...earlier today, by TATINEE, in fact.

Seriously though. I do the same as you when it comes to reading posts/threads, scanning through all the crap, sometimes skipping threads entirely, sometimes reading every single post within a thread, etc.

Also, no, you are not normal. You're way too damn smart to be considered normal.

I read what interests me. Sometimes I get halfway through a thread and see that it's turned into a slanging match, or gone off-topic, in which case I'll just quit.

If I have something to say, then I'll say it. Otherwise I'll leave it alone.

When i see a new thread, i read the first 5 or 10 posts.
Then i usually know what the thread is about, and i'll only read all the following posts when it's a very interesting thread.
But most of the time i skip the posts, and only read the last 5 posts.

And in some threads, i stop reading immediately and never read it again, because the thread turns out to be nothing more than a postwhore meeting point.
And if you been here at GTP a while, like me, you'll get to know the people a little bit, and you can tell by the threadstarter what kind of thread it will be, a interesting one or a stupid one.

Some of the bulletin boards I have used actually use a system where you reply to individual posts rather than the thread. It seems to help keep the threads more organized and valuable for the reader. It creates more of a tree structure out of a thread, rather than just a time line. Then you can view just the top level replies to the first post, or follow a 'branch' that interests you.

Of course, the system is dependant on the users actually following the intended method. Anyone can just post the the original post and you'd have the same effect as we have here.

:reallyodd Then what was the point of this thread?

Yeah, I have been out of sorts for a while. I guess I should do something about that.

And I guess I made this thread for the same reason we make any thread. To discuss a topic with other people.

F50: I assume English is not your primary language?
you're 50% correct.( don't ask why 50 %)

btw no matter how hard i try it my spell really 🤬

I think we should all learn at least one additional language.
i agrre with that.

btw if you can ( and want) anytime i make a typo, just let know, cuz i'm trying to do my best ( may be that take you 1000 years ,but) i really will apreciate all help no matter where or from who that come from. ;)

I think it's pretty awesome that you're making this website your "home on the Internet".
like t as i said b4 this site is awesome. in gtp we have a so many cultures and you can learn a lot of them ( i try it) plus anyone have he's owm way,and that show me how handle with each person ( according the situation ,mood, or kind person and/or problem that person have) or may i have it) i try to help to anyone (if i can) who need my help.

Ok, I just read your "Screeming Baby" thread. Here's what I observed as I went though it and eventually posted to.

-----------------------------

I read your entire post, top to bottom. I enjoyed the story and thought of situations as I read it. As I neared the end I was already thinking and anticipating what others might post in response to it. Upon reading your post I started to scroll. It wasn't but a few posts down and I started seeing posts where people were saying, "I'm not gonna read that whole thing...". I immediately lost interest, scrolled to the bottom, and made my post.

When there's a topic that interest me, I read it. If the topic stays "on topic", I will continue to read it until I reach the bottom. At that point I will usally decided if I can "add" anything else to the thread. If I can, I post it. If I can't, I leave it alone, but frequent back to it if I see the thread pops up in "New Posts" search. I will then review the new posts and either post or not post to it.

 I wouldn't go as far to say that....;)

But anyways...I also wanted to add that being a Moderator, I tend to play duel roles. I have my Moderator moments where I read everything, not for content, but for situations that need attention. When I'm relaxing or looking for something interesting to take part in, the situation in my previous post describes my reading/posting habbits pretty close...

 (Also root beer, or is it Alaskan Amber?) :D

Well, here at GTP, I read no matter how many pages, because I tend to click on the numbers (if there are several pages, or just click on last.)
As for the other stuff, I only read posts from select people anymore and if they quote something or are discussing something that seems like it could use my attention, I will read back a bit too.
On Gamefaqs.com I won't read or post to any threads with multiple pages because nobody bothers to read more than the first post. Here at GTP things are set up a bit smoother and usually something posted on page 9 will get an appropriate response.
I think that the HMRCWG thread taugh most of the people here how to read into long threads efficiently.

This thread right here was a tough one to read through. A thread full of long posts about how we're too lazy to read entire threads full of long posts, how ironic. :)

;), the comments about "how we're too lazy to read entire threads full of long posts" is not about this post. It was refering to this thread. Unless I'm totally misinterpriting your post. In which case, I sincerely appologize.

I'm so lazy I'm not going to read after the end of the 1st page - theres 3 pages at 10posts per page. - That just shows I don't read most posts so that proves I am a lazy arse oaff at 140cm tall

I view my pages at 100 posts per page. So it takes one heck of a thread to go to multiple pages (:

My bad, I just kinda skimmed this, should have read the whole thing before I called you guys lazy.

Unfortunately, important things such as but not limited to:

a) how to read
b) how to spell at least half your words in your post
c) reading all posts before contributing
d) contributing anything useful, valuable, or intelligible
e) feeling the need to respond to every post, even if you have nothing to say.

...all seem to be left out of the Terms of Service! Imagine, the thought of users actually reading what's posted before responding...the very thought makes me sick. ;)

If you're too lazy to read, just surf the net and disconnect the keyboard.

That's not a bad idea ... I wish there were a way to do that to other people's computers.
