Has anyone won the B-Spec Nascar race #2 at Grand Valley?

All I can guess is that I have the car setup horribly wrong for this track.
I have tried numerous configurations, but the best Bob can finish is 10th.
I've had him as high as 2nd during a race, but on the last lap he always ends up losing it and spinning the car out. It's like the tires are completely gone after 4 laps.
The reason I think it has to be setup are the following:
1.) All Nascars are listed as 850 HP. With an engine rebuild (which is only 500 cr. what's up with that?!) my car has 895HP.
2.) I have Golded every other race through all the series except for this race, therefore my Bob is usually pretty good at this point and I'm pretty good at directing him.
3.) The race is restricted to Racing-Hard tires, so I can't go with any other tire setup.

So please, if anyone has actually won this damn race, could you tell me what you changed from default on the settings for the tranny, aero, suspension, etc.

Thanks

Make sure you've changed oil before the race to get the highest amount possible of horsepower. Use about max downforce front and rear, and change the gearing to match the top speed on the long straight.

When you're racing, you should be using a cool driver. Mine is about 45% on the scale from cool to hot. Make sure to tell your driver to slow down for the first 8 laps. Your position at this point should not matter, as long as you're not dead last. This strategy should leave your tyres in a better condition than the rest of the cars, and you can overtake them one by one. Still, you'll have to make sure you don't tell him to speed up while going through bends as this will burn the tyres.

At the last lap, the AI should be going sideways and your driver is home free. Good luck!

Great tips, thanks for posting them.

I did the engine overhaul which covers the oil change.
The rest of the settings you mentioned are what I currently had set.
I will try the "calm down" factor with Bob and see if that helps.

I missed gold by less than .10 seconds - my tyres were shot by the last lap after getting to first place by the end of the second lap. I kept him around the middle of the heat bar for most of the race and he was not lighting up the tyres much til the middle of lap 8 when they were almost gone. He was hangiing on to the lead til the last fast right before the finish line, understeered wide and lost the lead.

Again at Daytona he built up a decent lead by lap 10, but despite gunning him to increase pace for the rest of the race, the pack caught up and he finished 8th. Just managed to finish the series with a gold by 10 points.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLD!!!!!!!

You are the man Alex. I held 6th place and kept him calm until 2 laps to go.
I got worried when Jeff Gordon was driving like a demolition derby and won't let me pass, but Bob pulled it out with 2 turns left!

Thank you.

Nice to hear. Its actually a very fun and rewarding race once you get 1st :)

I had more trouble beating this championship in A-spec. Had to use shady tricks and disable the cars in 2nd and 3rd overall when they pitted me on Laguna Seca and Daytona.

Did the races again a few days later and was able to beat Seca easily with cool driving, and Daytona with a proper setup for the gear ratio and lowering downforce to get more speed.

Over in the GT5 tuning thread are several comprehensive setups. Please check there for the best information to deal with this race.

A bit moot at this point, but I found that you can be a bit more aggressive with your Bob in this race than originally posted. The key point is getting to the front using as little wear on your tires as possible. I managed to get him to the lead on lap 7 of 8 where I passed 3rd-1st in quick succession on the front straight and then went on to win by 8 seconds.

i did the same thing until lap 6 as well.....but i would add that setting brake balance to Front 8 Rear 0 helped him from using up the rear tires also.

I can't get my driver to beat Daytona for the life of me. He's just too stupid and slow. There's absolutely no need to use the brakes on that course but he insists. And he lets the opposition draft him instead of maneuvering out of the way so they can't. It seems like that race is based on luck.

My B-spec guy is driving me NUTS he will literally just sit right outside the drafting zone of the leading cars meanwhile the other AI cars behind me are apparently better and drive right into it and pass me up.

LSD setup did the wonder for me, oh and set the brake balance to be F1 R0. And you have to keep pushing him. I won by a fair margin

I have found a second way to win at the Grand Valley Speedway in a NASCAR boat:

From the start of the race, push hard, and pass everyone, so you take the lead of the race (usually on lap three), and then cruise on lap four. You may be able to extend your lead to one or two seconds.

Pit for new tires at the end of lap 4.

You will have fallen back to last place as you begin lap 5 (about 15-18 seconds out of 1st place).

Chase on lap 5 and lap 6.

You should catch the tail-end of the pack about half-way thru lap 6.

Drive thru the pack on your fresh tires for the rest of lap 6 and lap 7.

As you begin lap 8, you should be able to see the leader, and you might be somewhere between 3rd and 6th place.

Pass the rest of the field on lap 8 as the AI spin their tires and throw up clouds of smoke!

My B-Spec Bob (level 23) was able to take the lead going thru the final chicane on lap 8 and I cruised to victory!

Note:
I tried this method a number of times before finally achieving success. Its not a sure thing since there is quite a bit of variance in how the AI drive their NASCAR boats. During one attempt, I was side-by-side with the leader of the race as we accelerated down the home straight at the end of lap 4, and was prevented from entering the pits because the other car was on my right side!

Quite fun!

for this race if u pit on lap 4 before ur tyres get below half way worn u will catch them easy by the bridge and tunnel and overtaking them is a breeze i did it numerous times and won by half a lap each time this is after i tryed for 6 hours of changing car setting only thing that needs to be done is gear ratio mine set at 310km the rest slight tweaks but making him pit u should win with ease :)

i was playing around with the suspension, bob, putting the toe f to -1.00, and the rear to +1.00, and it saved tires alot, i didnt start spinning out until the final lap.
won by over 10 seconds, used pace down for the first three laps.
