I played through everything that interested me in this game in the first two weeks. Besides the seasonal events, which are fading, there is not much gameplay left in it as far as I am concerned. I have just been grinding away and collecting cars.
Anyone else feel like they hit a wall at around level 25-30?
With the online experience as bad as it is, what's left for this game?

I am probably one of the biggest fans of the series there has ever been, but I am just so bored with it as of late and could see myself putting it away soon.

Nothing I have ever played is as good as this game when I happen to get into a good lobby, which is more rare than a Historic Cup Car, but lack of match making/terrible online component and the worst menu system and management tools ever leave me thinking they took the best physics engine ever and wrapped it in Crap. Not to mention they pretty much recycled the majority of the game from previous versions.

As an owner of Prologue, I also feel this was a $100 title.....and I want more from it.......without paying for DLC.
There are way too many simple and obvious things missing from the game to call it a great title.
It's base of physics, graphics and AI are totally unmatched though.....

Does it have a future that does not involve DLC? I hope so

A spec = too short
B spec = too ****
Online = **** aswell.

Theres literally nothing left to do in gt5 once a spec is done...

Thats why im pre ordering shift 2 and killzone 3...

I'm grinding my way to 40th level on Aspec.

I'm in my bed, surfing the web, watching youtube, reading interesting stuff, chatting with my girl.

Yeah, rubberband grinding is great.

I don't play GT5 any more, not since reaching level 30. I just can't be arsed.

I drive cars around here and there and then take photos, which is the game's only saving grace. And that's it.

I tried arcade mode hoping for some good racing. No joy. Even on "pro" the racing is easy and boring. The only thing that has me coming back is about an hour every week (or longer now) for the 5 seasonal races.

See my sig.

If my PS3 had playbackability (whatever) I would also be playing GT3 and GT4. Can't find a PS2 anywhere; have my games and memory cards upstairs lovingly wrapped up safely for that special day...

Man they realy need to get rid of the XP system. I don't care about the loading, the glitches, the lack of burnouts, the standard cars WAH WAH WAH.

Just why the XP????????

Everything else is a mistake, we are all human and no one likes the PS3 architecture, and lack of RAM, but instituting XP was a conscious choice.

Who in the flug thought this would keep anyone without OCD playing. I love every GT including this one, but the XP has made me shelve it. I refuse to play any series more than 3 times out of necessity, that is grinding. If you really want to institute XP, opening a museum card should by eleventy million XP points...

Let me put it in perspective, my ps3 died today and while I'm bummed, it's mostly because of missing Netflix. Don't get me wrong I play on a daily basis, or did until today, but the urge to play has been dying. I even decided to play with all aids off just to make it interesting again, but now that I'm proficient it's boring again. A spec is simply a joke. The muscle car championship is ONE race at a FOREIGN track! What a slap in the face. Indy road course appears once in a spec but cape ring is repeated ad nauseum. This is a MAJOR step down from gt4's events. Seasonal is a band aid and a poor one at that. B spec isn't really playing the game it's watching it. Online has some decent rooms but by and large it's full of tards and children. It's hard for me to get into any other racer though because gt has been what I've always played, and up until now I never needed anything else.

Seriously, I'm level 28 and have yet to grind.

Thank You Seasonal Events!

(It helps to not be greedy, too!)

Yeah, it was great going back. It was really refreshing playing the older games again. GT5 may have a lot of things over GT 1-4, but fun isn't one of them.

Thank God for WRS and the fact GT5 has better physics. I wouldn't even bother with it anymore if it weren't for these things.

I wonder how many other topic we will see stating that the OP is bored to death with the game...

At 28. I would guess you still have a few extreme and expert events waiting for you as well as endurance mode at 30. But that's about it.
Seasonal events were too easy after the first couple rounds.

Call me greedy, I guess, but the simple inclusion of adjustable AI or selectable opponents among many other things and I would be playing instead of bitching.

Only thing I have found challenging, and therefor rewarding, is the Nascar and Nurburgring + x1 Special Challenges as well as the Historic Cup and Indy 500.

I actually have set aside some of the challenging stuff and endurance races just to have something to come back to some time.

^^This. It gets quite tiresome seeing new threads started about the same old complaints.

We get it. This game is obviously not for everyone. But there are loads of other complaint threads saying exactly the same as this one without the need to create yet another. Go add to one of those instead.

With regards to the online play, I love it. Especially when you're against other good drivers. Once Shi(f)t 2 comes out, all the kids who just ram everyone off will go to that game instead, leaving GT5's online to be the game we all want it to be. It was exactly the same with Prologue.

I dint think I'll stop playing this game in a LONG while.

I'm at A-Spec 30 and B-Spec 25 and I have yet to 'Grind'. I see no need for it. Why do you? So you can get to lvl 40, then what? I play the game as it comes to me. Seasonal Events are great and makes the game very enjoyable at higher levels.

A & B Spec events, Licenses, and Special Events will get you from lvl 0-30
Seasonal Events will get you to lvl 30-40

Pretty sure that was the plan, hence the high XP levels above 30. Also remember that we are only 2 months into the life of GT5. Seasonal Events have only just begun. Whats the needed rush to get maxed out so soon in the game?

I couldn't agree more with the OP. I'm level 28 and there's a couple of events left and then there's the endurance rounds - which is never going to happen. I'd hate like hell to some day be on my death bed thinking, "God, I wish I had that 24 hours I spent on that stupid GT5 endurance event back."

I love this game and if it was more competitive I'd spend every hour I could playing it, but I'm not going to bang my head against the wall just because there's nothing better.

Isn't it PD's job to make it a good game? Not mine to hope that a good game will eventually develop when people leave the scene? It's that kind of Apathy and willingness to settle that PD is betting and feeding on. We are talking about simple matchmaking. How hard could it be to institute matchmaking based on your lap times and a Car performance index? Simply lazy development.

I am just as quick to point out how Good this game could be and is at times.
I just don't feel like I should have to invest the time it takes to mine the gold out of it. It's a game, not work.

Sorry if you don't like the thread, but do you honestly expect someone complaining about the time it takes to find a good lobby to go search for the proper thread to voice his opinion in. Guess I am a lazy forum Member and were all square.

I love this game but recently ive gone back to playing rfactor and richard burns rally. I figure if im just going to drive (which is pretty much all i have left to do in GT5) why not play an actual sim? I'll keep going back to collect cars and such, but the serious lack of events is a huge letdown. I wouldn't even mind this ridiculous XP system that much if I had enough events to level up without mindless repetition.

Yeah, honestly, I stop playing this game occasionally for a few weeks at a time. But when I come back, I really enjoy myself!

I just reached A-Spec level 25, and I'm totally psyched about doing my first endurance race tomorrow (even though I'm probably going to end up winning easily, and unintentionally, using an overpowered car). I don't see a wall coming any time soon xD

I have no problem with the XP system; in fact, in terms of unlocking new events, I really prefer the XP system to the 'clear everything in the last tier' system. The only thing that stopped me from doing some of the endurance races in GT4 was the fact that I had serious difficulty unlocking them. As much as I hate grinding, I have less of a problem with it when I know that it's serving cross purposes: I get to buy the car I'm looking for and I know for a fact that I'm closer to unlocking the next race.

On the topic of online racing: I recommend anyone who wants to race cleanly with similarly minded people to make your own Shuffle Race lobby with a description of something like 'Clean racing only'. This simple procedure has given me a chance to race with others on an even plane. (I also put the regulations on heavy damage to really discourage bumping and whatnot, but that's a personal preference.)

As much as I think we ought to pressure video game companies into making games that we all can really enjoy, and as much as I am a pessimist, I also believe that there are times when you should just try as hard as you might to see that glass as half full. The last thing I want to be doing while I'm playing Gran Turismo, or any game for that matter, is nitpicking and noticing its flaws. Why not just sit back, relax, and have some fun sometimes?

I'd have to agree, as much as I'm disappointed with the lack of events among other things, it's hard not to enjoy this game when you're playing it.

i spend most of my time driving various cars around the nurburgring and comparing lap times. unfortunatly i cant delete times from my leader board any more as i used to be able to in gt4. so if i decide to go back and do a lap again i have the same car up there 3 or 4 times.

infact small as it may be, thats my biggest problem with gt5...

I completely agree with you that we need match making in this game. All too often I've joined lobbies and the host simply never starts the race (and I'm not talking about the ones that have free run etc in their description).

I'm not sure how easy it'd be to have match making based on lap times, but I'm guessing seeing how no other console racer I've played has them, maybe it's not that easy? Basing it on car performance index (pp?), that's kind of a moot point as that wouldn't stop the crashers.

This is just a game to me, not work, even with the XP grind. As pointed out a couple of posts above, why such a rush to get to level 40 when most stuff is unlocked way before that apart from a few endurance events?

And about not being able to find the appropriate complaints thread, there is always the 'Whats wrong with GT5?' thread. Or is that to difficult to enter into the search engine?

Honestly, I think the best policy is "If you want something done right, do it yourself." It really doesn't take that long to get a bunch of players into your lobby. Besides, even a 1 on 1 race can actually be pretty good if you make sure you're evenly matched by making it a Shuffle Race.

Seriously, try it out sometime. It's not as bad as it's cracked up to be!

Definitely agree. I will be continuing to sift through the lobbies and attempting to meet like minded Skilled Clean Racers, but I am just annoyed that I have to considering how easy a fix matchmaking should be.

Let's be honest though, everyone is here to gripe about something, whether it be someones post content, where they placed it etc. I was just looking to have a discussion about some of the things I would like to see changed or added to the game etc and see how others felt about DLC mostly. Isn't that what a forum is for?
I'll stop bitching now. :sly:

There are threads about who's stopped playing.

There are threads about grinding.

There are complaint threads.

While this isn't exactly A, B or C, it's far too close to all of the above to stand on its own.

Sorry. Locked.
