Hand brake Solution.

Here's a short video of what I created for a Hand brake, E-brake, Parking brake. What ever you want to call it...without voiding my Logitech warrantee.

After reading post after post about people deystroying there shifter boards, and voiding brand new warrantees attempting to wire up a button operated brake. I convinced my self there had to be another way.

I purchased a universal choke cable at my local auto parts store, cut up some scrap metal, and the rest was history.

This is what I came up with:

There is another video link below, Its really dark and hard to see but it has some better angles.

You will notice even when the hand brake is fully engaged it does not put excess pressure on the "o" buttton. The travel of the cable is stopped when the bolt under the button arm hits the collar on top of the bracket. You can't see the collar because its under some Duct tape to reduce the metal on metal contact noise. The collar for the cable is held in place by a locking nut. The button arm is held in place by two locking nuts that are threaded onto the black plastic top.

The actuall pad that depresses the "o" button I found hanging around my room. The face of the pad is concaved and fits the curvature of the logitech button.

I put duct tape on the bracket to keep the metal edges from scratching the shifter. The duct tape over the cable collar is to reduce the metal on metal noise when the hand brake is fully engaged.

Post some of your own handbrake solutions!

You came up with a photo showing nothing nor explaining anything? Good job!

All you have to do is place your cursor over the image and you will observe a change in the Icon. This indicates the presence of a video...But just incase you can't handle this super advanced forum technology...here is the direct link:

Being a new member you should be a bit more hesitant before you go a make a comment like that.

Have a simple solution for those who have wheel but no handbrake. Tape your controller on the right side of the wheel. And use the analog as handbrake:) remeber it have to be C nr1 and assign the keys:)

@AWDwhite_2g its a great system, please post some pics of what u did around the"button pressing" part! I just cant make out what is happening over there. Im def gonna be doing this with my wheel as well!

Fantastic design, I've been looking for ideas on how to add a handbrake to my wheel stand pro for a long time. I've wanted the rally style handbrake more than a standard style and this seems to be the way to do it.

Would you mind taking a couple of extra shots of how the choke cable is connected to those metal brackets, and how the brackets are attached to the gearshift module to be able to clamp down on the O button. Also how the handbrake swings on whatever mechanism to pull the spring.

Also, if you wouldn't mind a small run down on what parts were used, and what they are called. Like those metal rods you used, the clamps, and the handle of the brake lever (looks like it might just be foam wrapped over wood).

I guess I'm asking for a little DIY writeup on the handbrake construction, if that isn't too much trouble.

Thanks again, fantastic cockpit, I've been following both threads.

Very clever.
What i did with my dfgt and wheelstand pro is got a plank and an old ds3, pulled the end off a board marker (stole from a teacher, shh!) and it fitted perfectly over the analogue, glued it onto the analogue, glued the ds3 to the end of the plank, and put the plank in between the wheelstand and the clamp. And for extra force, i got a few of my sisters hair bobins, pulled them under the plankand around the clamp knob. Job done!
It may sound complicated, but it only took ten minutes max.

I am considering converting my sequential Fanatec shifter into a handbrake. I have seen ways to add spring effects and take out the click. BUT, Fanatec is slated to possibly have a Clubsport handbrake when the CSS comes out, so that could be something to look into....I am intrigued to say the least.

Hey everyone thanks for the feedback!

I will get post some new photos, parts list, and better description of the design shortly. (Today)

I also have a cockpit video in the works too!

Thank you so much for this!!

Great concept and execution and also much better than voiding your warranty.

Thanks for the updates!

I'm going to go to the hardware store and see if I can find these metal rods and the spring. I'll check a few of the auto supply stores to see if I can track down a universal choke cable.

Thanks for all of this, maybe I'll finally get a handbrake setup on my wheel stand pro.
