This thread is kind of random, but there is a point and a question at the end. 👍
Gran Turismo 5's weight reduction programs are tight lipped about how these operations are carried out. Previous sequels show that weight reductions are quite indepth, turning even the most weighty of vehicles into shells of their former selves to gain sometimes as much as a fraction of a second over stock performance numbers. I've prepared a series of pictures to further explain:
It is no secret that by removing this:
You get wins and something called speed.
But, then again at the cost of this:
👎👎👎
Picture inconsistancies aside... this is an extreme look of what could actually be... welll... a virtual reality happening in GT5 as we speak with these "weight reduction" programs.
That's right. That once pristine palace of a car interior is now reduced to a few metal panels, a seat, and a steering wheel. But lets take a look at the situation a little deeper than that...
Whales are wonderous creatures that majestically exist in the wide open vastness that is Earth's oceans. Their place in nature is to be gigantic but ironically eat the tiniest living orangnisms on the planet. Intellgient design or wayward evolution??? Haha, I don't know either but this isn't the point...
If you were God and you could pick these whales up with your mighty hand and "will" them into smaller, faster, cooler animals with no other purpose than predate on anything that swims in the ocean, which we'll deem them Megladons, what do you think would happen to the remaining whale population?
Well since there isn't much information on what exactly takes place in a weight reduction, it is obvious its for the sake of performance. However, there is no cosmetic difference in interiors of premium cars and since there is no interior view of standard cars we can only assume that the weight reduction bears no visual properties - probably an oversight of rushed production but I digress...
This means there is no apparent consequence of gutting your whales.
Which then means what was the point of whales?
Why not just buy sharks - instead of making whales into sharks...
But then what about the plankton?
But there is no consequence of gutting whales so plankton is moot.
*stares into space... deep in thought*
I was only concerned about the situation after playing some online before the hax happened some week ago.. but I had always wondered if people really gut their luxury cars for that little bit of performance or if my luxury cars are really that slow. I don't know... I've gut some whales before and it didn't really do anything for me. Sure improvement in speed and whatnot - but then the after thought that I'm driving a metal box around that just looks like a E 55 AMG or S-Type is just... creepy to me.
Its like... removing a lion's mane. Or removing the contents of a can of chicken noodle soup so the cans aren't so heavy when you're shopping. The thing about the car is the thing that we're removing... ??? How could an enthusiast do that?
Veyron for example... the cool thing about the Veyron is the luxury it comes with. Sure top speed is really nice and obviously a great selling point, but the feat of strength isn't the top speed - but the luxury it still has while still having the top speed. To remove what was so carefully engineered is kind of defeating the purpose of it.
I for one just couldn't see myself ever doing that to a luxury sedan. I might have a sedan that's been stripped of some unnecessary things to save necessary weight. But I have a feeling this isn't the kind of weigth reduction GT5 is giving us. I have my own thoughts and I judge people online.
wut u guys think... do you gut the whales or save them??
