EDIT 2 - READ FIRST: I just wanted to let everyone know that I posted this thread on May 10th, not just recently as some may think.

A couple of days ago, I decided to test my R92CP at the Sarthe circuit multiple times in Arcade mode, in order to find the best setup for its entry into the 24hrs of LeMans A-Spec. Before doing so, I had given my car an oil change (I do this to almost every car I test), boosting its HP from the 700's to a healthy 986. After multiple laps and various changes to the settings, I noticed something odd in the HP section of the settings menu: The HP dropped to 968. In Arcade mode? :odd: So I decided to ignore the problem, only to realize that after each and every session, my horsepower not only continued to drop, but also continued to drop more rapidly. First it was 962 HP after a few more laps, then 960 after less than 1/3 of a lap! I left arcade mode to check on my R92's status in GT Life mode, and the car's performance drop is still intact. So I panicked, and gave the 1,800+ mile car an oil change and a $500K engine overhaul in hopes of preventing future drops in HP. I forgot if the car had gained any miles during this incident.

I was using arcade mode in hopes of not permanently deteriorating the car's performance, and it looks as if that was just a myth. Having scanned the forums for other experiences of such a discovery, all I get is the statements that Arcade mode does not, in any way, increase car engine wear. So apparently I am the first to discover this.

I can think of three things about this: Either this is a rare glitch, the problem was there the whole time, or PD had recently patched the game (after the golden-engine claims had been made here) and added this feature to further expand on the game's 'realism'.

I encourage you state your opinion on this incident, and test to see if engine wear/chassis wear in arcade mode happens to you (particularly, use a high-HP race car)

Discuss.

EDIT: While I'm at it, could you please tell me the best car setup I was trying to find for my R92 at the Sarthe Circuit so I don't have to test it multiple times again? Thanks.

I had a similar experience.. I took my brand new FGT (from a level 24 ticket) for some time trial runs in arcade mode and the horsepower actually started going up (from breaking it in) I figured well that's awesome because as I've read there's no kms put on the car in arcade mode so I thought I was getting the car broken in without putting km on it. Sure enough I went back to gt life mode and the car had 60 km on it so maybe it's a new patch thing..

Although I have drift cars that I abuse and they have no kms put on them in arcade mode, so maybe it's just the time trial mode that puts kms on the car.

Actually I took a couple cars into time trial mode in arcade mode just yesterday and there was no distance put on the cars, it seems to only happen if you enter arcade mode with the car having 0km on it already, where it starts to break in.

Now that Spec 2 is out, I have tested some more cars to see if any changes have been made regarding this issue, and found out that:

1. No, this problem has still yet to be addressed.

2. Cars do indeed accumulate mileage in arcade mode.

I'm guessing at this point that PD intended cars to build up engine wear wherever they were used. So I don't see them fixing this problem anytime in the future.

Usually, they need an engine rebuilt after 500KM, or so. But you can keep the engine from dropping HP if you constantly change the oil after lets say... 20 laps. That is happening right now with my Spec II Ford GT Test Car. After it reached the poit where it needed the first engine rebuilt, it has been dropping up to 50 HP after three races in Indy.

Anyway, the wear system was a good thing, the problem is that who the hell in PD thought it was a good idea to charge up to 2 million for it for cars that usually are below 100K? And worst thing is the chassis wear. Just drive that thing once, and you´ll need it.

Just an example of how silly this is: I bought a DeLorean today (Lovely car.
Deserves to be premium.) It cost me 500K which is by itself rediculous. I know that the DeLorean is a rare car, but usually it doesn´t go higher than 60K in real life. The thing was that the engine rebuild costs 200K and the chassis costs another 500K, which leaves me with a 200HP car that cost´s more than a million.

Seriously? Just imagine a guy at PD saying, "lets charge X times more of what the car costs to fix it. And lets make the car wear out after just a drive."

I´m pretty sure that if Mr. Yamauchi saw this before release, he wouldn´t admit it.

The only mode I usually play GT5 is Arcade mode- both races and TT but mostly the latter. Yes, the engine is affected as far back as I can remember (I bought the game just before xmas, and around the time of the first patch).

Yes. Doing the engine ribuilt thing in GT Auto. But it will cost you. Sometimes the full prize of the car itself. It´s better to buy the car again.

It's not very expensive for used dealership cars. The only time the price is expensive is when you deal with race cars- LMPs etc.

Before Spec 2.0 there was no body or engine wear in Arcade. I play mostly in Arcade and I have most of the cars 2 times so I can play with the 0.0km.

After the OP ,I tried my 0.0 mileage Enzo and it did take kms in Arcade. Its so frustrating.I realised though that not all the cars I tested in Arcade ,increaded mileage.

Usually when I play in Arcade mode , I turn off the system directly.Maybe if you dont go back to GTlife , the engine /body wear doesnt save

You want to take cars out for a joy ride? Well it's going to wear out the engine. It's as simple as that.

You know, just because you don't like something that doesn't qualify it as an "issue".

^^^^ I agree that it isn't an issue, but they're only pointing it out because this is new. Since this is new, I doubt there will be a fix for it. Did driving online cause mileage to go up? If mileage is recorded online now, there will definitely not be a fix.

As long as you don't back out of the race, it won't save. That's how it is for Seasonal Events. Check beforehand to see if it saves to be on the safe side.

Sorry I wasnt complaining about the engine wear in Arcade. Its frustrating that we dont have any kind of directions regarding the body /engine rebuild or when the cars actually wear.

I found something interesting. If you race any of your Favorites in Arcade and just quit the game ,no miles/kms added.

BUT if you go to the tuning screen after the time trial, all the miles are added to GTLIFE , even if you quit the game.

So to avoid mileage , dont ever go to the tuning screen in Arcade mode, just race.

The whole mileage thing is annoying, but here's what I've been doing since they let you copy saves:

If you're not playing to progress (ie get money or prize cars) delete your save and overwrite when you're done playing. I drive my cars frequently, yet they are all 0/0.

True. Most cars cost around 20K for each fix. but there are also cars which the price is rediculous. And I´m not talking about Group C´s or LMP´s. I´m talking about regular cars.

Yes there was. I posted this thread in early May, way before the Spec II patch released.

I am sorry, I didnt pay attention to the date :indiff:

Well I did some more tests with my fleet of 0.0km Priuses :D

Go to Arcade mode ,race with whatever you want.If you go to settings before the race/trial , and change something ,it doesnt matter (ofcourse since you havent driven/added miles yet). Race ,when you are done , simply just dont go again to the settings screen. When you do the miles will be added to GTlife.

Now if you quit the race ,the save indicator will flash ,but dont bother NO MILES ADDED. Go pick another car and race .
In conclusion if you dont want your car to wear, after the Arcade run , dont go to the Settings screen or return to GTlife.

Not in online free run, cars don't put on any miles there. Not entirely useful for tuning for offline though.
