The following is my idea for GT5 A-Spec Racing:

During my recent run at La Sarthe in the 24 hour endurance race, I had the time to think about what else can be done in GT5 now that I've reached the 40/40 level.

I've decided to see if there were additional challenges available.

So I took out my trusty calculator and launched a few spreadsheets on my computer, and tried out a variety of scenarios. After multiple battery replacements and a bit of carpal tunnel, I have hit upon the following idea:

ACCUMULATE 10,000 A-Spec Points!

You may ask: How can we accumulate A-spec points?

Answer: By winning A-spec races with a car that has a lower PP value than that of the AI competition.

For example: a typical opponent in the FF Challenge - Beginner Series is the Honda Prelude Si VTEC '91. This Prelude has 211HP and weights 1280kg and has a PP value at this level of tune of 401. So if you run a race and beat the Honda Prelude (and all the other AI competitors in the race) using a car with a PP value of 311 (say a Mini Cooper 1.3i '98 with 57HP and weighting 720kg) you would earn 90 A-spec points.

The GOAL is 10,000 A-spec points because there are 127 A-spec races and I think that it might be possible to have an average score of about 75 at each race.

Can 10,000 points be reached?

RULES: (open to suggestions)
1) Tires: Equal or worse in grade to the AI (for example, the AI in the Sunday Cup race use Sport Hard tires (SH), so your car must use sport hard tires or worse)
2) Must win race to earn the A-spec points

Tire factors:
10% bonus for using tires one grade worse than AI
20% bonus for using tires two grades worse than AI
30% bonus for using tires three grades worse than AI

Reserved for typical opponents:

Good news on this, the recent GT5 update (V1.1) has added the PP values for the AI car's in the "Typical Opponents" car window! My work is done!

One thing that I did notice is the the update dropped a few of the cars that had been listed, and it added a few cars that had not been listed originally. Don't know what the story is with this.

I will leave my post as a reference since it lists a few of the cars that the recent update dropped, and we might run against these dropped cars and might want to know what their PP values are.

I think we all begin to search for something that is FUN and CHALLENGING once we get to 40/40. You drive cars you bought and didn't use, you buy cars you did not need.
You find the fun in driving. Then you hit on your idea, which is a minimalistic view. What is the least powerful car that will kick some a**. Not sure if I can type that word.
I will try some of these when I get home tonight.

The idea is not bad but I dislike the UPGRADING of the tyres.
Try to win them with stock cars. ;)

How many points would give this : https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5299121#post5299121

btw I had downgraded the tyres for an online race.

I get what you're saying raVer about the tires. I've done a few races with the tires one step down from the AI's tires and had some decent races, but of course received fewer A-spec points since I had to increase the tune. As you know, GT4 would adjust the A-spec points for the tire downgrade, but since GT5 does not, I did not want to complicate the calculation initially. Perhaps we should require the tire downgrade but reward some sort of A-spec point constant for this downgrade (like the 60 point factor in GT4). I will work on this further.

I was also thinking ahead to when we are racing against the race cars and they would be on Race Hard tires, so being a step down on Sport softs would not seem realistic.

Perhaps in the Beginner Race Series we should always be on tires that are one grade worse, but maybe by the Expert or Extreme Series we would need to use the same tires.

GTsail

My idea for the tyre calculation is:

2 grades higher than AI = A-Spec points / 2
1 grade higher than AI = A-Spec points / 1.5
same grade than AI = A-Spec points x1
1 grade lower x1.5
2 grades lower x2

and so on

raVer

The only problem i see with that is people like me, who would probably have 10000 A-Spec points by now, but aren't level 40.

Great idea and I believe fully achievable. As a matter of fact you probably achieved that on your way to lvl 40. I think most of us already use cars substantially lower in HP/PP in the A-spec races just to make them competitive; I know I do. Getting to lvl 40 by blowing away all the comp ain't no fun.

Level 34 here, and the fastest car I used in A-spec is a Lupo GTI with comfort medium ;)

I like your homemade A-spec points calculation. Too bad the game doesn't do itself like in GT4

Ok, I've done some more testing:

I downgraded my tires to one level worse than the AI, and ran races at the following tracks for a test sample:

Nurburgring - Lupo Cup - Professional Series
Daytona Road - Tuned Car Championship - Expert Series
Rome - Gallardo Trophy - Expert Series
Suzuka - Super GT - Extreme Series
Indianapolis - American Championship - Extreme Series

And in all cases, I had good races with a de-tuned car against the AI on tires that were one grade below the AI's tires. The only exception was the Tuned Car Championship. In this Series it was easy to win with a tire that was three grades lower!!

Its apparent from this small test that we would get better racing in most cases if we ran the race on tires that were one grade below the competition (sometimes even two grades would be ok in the easier Series on tracks with the longer straights).

The advantage to this would be that we could use cars that are closer in tune (and PP values) to the competition. Sure it would mean that we couldn't kill the AI in the corners, but it would allow us to mostly stay with the AI on any tracks that had longer straights like Monza or FUJI.

So I've done some testing and come up with some initial factors to adjust the PP values.

I propose that we use the following factors and add them to the AI's PP value before subtracting the PP value of our cars:

Same tire ----- no adjustment
1 grade worse --- 10%
2 grades worse -- 20%
3 grades worse -- 30%

Note - The above is just my initial proposal on this, so these factors are not set in stone just yet.

For example: If the AI car's PP value was 401 (the Honda Prelude Si VTEC '91) and you won a race with a car that had a PP value of 350 on tires one grade worse than the AI Honda, you would earn 91 A-Spec points (401 * 1.1 - 350 = 91). If you won this same race on tires that were two grades worse you would earn 131 A-Spec points (401 * 1.2 - 350 = 131).

Respectfully,

This is a really good idea, an update by PD to include this in game would be brilliant, and maybe a trophy to achieve 10,000 points as you suggest, forcing people who want 100% to race a spec with competition and make it much more interesting........ I Agree with your idea!!!!👍
