Online Race Glitch/Hanging

Fairly recently I've been having some strange problems when racing online. During the countdown before the race the counter freezes at 17 seconds (ALWAYS at 17 seconds). Nothing else, I can still drive around when it freezes, but after it has frozen, it remains on the screen for the entire race (also the chatbox freezes if it was open at 17 secs). During the race the only information I get is a track map and a few other things. No speed gauges or laptimes! Also I cannot read any new chat messages and the pause menu doesn't come up when paused.

Now this part I don't mind so much, it isn't totally undrivable, but this isn't the worst part unfortunately! The worst thing is, I cannot pit!

When I go to pit the computer doesn't take control of my car and take it to the pit box like it usually does, I can drive full speed down the lane and drive through other cars in the pits, which destroys and race I enter longer than say 10-15 laps, which is very annoying as I enjoy racing in a few leagues here on GTP.

Another thing that happens along with this glitch is that whenever I return to the lounge after being out on track (driving or watching), the game just hangs forever. The grey GT logo on a black background replaces the view of the track and it never loads (no load bar).

So... what can I do to fix this? I've already tried reinstalling the game data of GT5 (backed up my save :)) which did seem to do the trick for a few days but it happened again tonight. I completed 2 races with no drama at all in this time, both over an hour long. Currently I don't know if I was just lucky after I reinstalled and finished those races, or just unlucky that it happened again tonight. I also clear my cache before every league race, which doesn't usually do anything I might add, and usually when I come online for the races the PS3 has just been switched on.

In a nutshell what occurs:
- Join online race room,
- Game hangs when leaving track,
- Reload game,
- Clear cache (again),
- Rejoin race room,
- Race countdown starts,
- Countdown freezes at 17 seconds,
- Can't pit!
- RAGE. lol... :indiff:

So GTP, what can be done to stop this? I don't want to miss out on any more points from racing online in leagues!

Thanks in advance! :)

It could just be your connection, what's your readouts from speedtest.net. I hear alot of these problems can be fixed with changing from a wireless connection to a wired one, with the ethernet cable connecting straight to the router. Or is this what you already have?

I have a wireless connection via a BT Homehub in the room next to the lounge (with the PS3 in). It's normally pretty sound and it works ok, save for this problem haha. Getting a wired connection isn't really practical for the setup in the house either really.

It's a fairly recent problem, like within the past 3 weeks, and there's been no such problems with it before then since I got the game in December! Anyway next time I'm on the PS3 I'll check the up and download speeds and post them here if that helps at all.

I've been having the same problems for 3 weeks or so. Hangs when exiting room, hangs when trying to get into my garage. It must be a 1.10 bug.

I'm wired straight into my router and clear my cache daily.

Yeah I'm thinking a bug as well, got no idea why it affects some and not others though, strange :( hopefully they fix this in the next patch, even though there should be no problem!

Mine only seems to hang online in races though when it happens, maybe I've been 'lucky' haha.

I have the exact same problem as the OP:

I can be racing okay for many races, then next race the race countdown starts, but countdown freezes at 17 seconds - which is exactly when the music changes and gets more 'jazzy'

There is no 3,2,1 countdown so false start check races are impossible to gauge without false starting or getting a left behind

It allows me to race the full race, but I cannot return to the lobby at the end of the race, and have to restart the game.

This has only happened to me since 2.02 update and is random in it's execution. It can also happen on next restart, or not, totally random bug it seems.

How do we address this to Mr Kazunori san that we have multiple users with this issue?

I also get the weird countdown thing, not every time and steering input, while not visually lagging... seems slow to respond (Connection: FIOS 25/25, wired). The start positions display wrong too (Display 4th, actual 7th), but the races run correctly.

If I had to make a guess, the problem is in the allowable variance between the fastest and the slowest connection / ping of the players in the room. For the faster / cleaner connection rooms, there should be much less tolerance for accommodating a slower or unreliable connection.

Clearly, they compromise to make the game enjoyable for everyone, which is understandable... and would be nice if improved.
