Question, I know GT5 does not have a specific LAN option like earlier games.

Me and some friends are bringing our PS3's and copy of GT5 to a friends house. He will have 4 TV's setup, each ps3 connected to one. Would it be possible to use the My Lounge and all join his race within his own network? Or will his network be so overloaded that it would run terrible? Ideas/suggestions? Thanks

That's exactly how we ran UKGTP14. It'll be fine, so long as no-one outside joins your lobby.

Make sure to only open enough room for the four of you. I don't remember if you can set lobbies for a specific number of racers rather than preset numbers, but doing so will ensure no outsiders join your races. Even if you're in a friend's lounge his friends as well as all the friends of the people inside the room can join from the Community section in My GT. You have been warned!

Thanks for the feedback!

So outside of his network will tank the game more or less?

I'm pretty sure you need access to the internet to all for 4 ps3's

More. Many orders of magnitude more.

GT5's lobbies are peer-to-peer - setting up the lobby requires a small amount of traffic and maintaining a PSN connection requires a microscopic amount. So long as your four machines remain the only ones in the lobby the internet traffic will be minimal and it'll all be intranet. As soon as an external machine joins you'll have four machines trying to communicate with that external machine (and it trying to communicate with those four) individually, all through your router - eight times the normal network traffic!

We did it with eleven machines back in May and it was no different than our three machine test a few months before, but we set up specific accounts for that event so that there was no possibility of being joined by an external machine.

Since they're setting up a Lounge and all joining it, what else would you expect them to be doing?

Of course, this can obviously be avoided by using a public lobby and putting limits on the people joining to the number of machines you wish to use. That way you have no chance of worrying about it. Since you are using My Lounge though there's no real way around that.

This LAN thing looked and was easier in GT4, looks terribly complex in GT5. :indiff:

It's much of a muchness. GT5 requires all machines to be connected to PSN, that's all. GT4 required a lot of settings fannying about that would take me about 5-10 minutes per machine and would occasionally fall out if we'd put the machines into the network in the wrong order.

Set it for private and you should be fine.

That's because there is no LAN functionality in GT5. :(

Well, there's multi-monitor but that doesn't really count...

So we got to test this out, was a total blast. We had 3 Ps3's hooked up at 1 location 2 with wheels one with controller. then a buddy was also playing from his home. We did this over the my lounge, zero issues, zero lag. Worked amazing! :)

I envy you, buddy.

I have no real life friends interested in GT5. Glad you had a good time.
