In about 15 mins, Apples event to introduce new products will begins. This thread is so you can post and discuss latest news from the event. Apple are not providing a video stream, but several sites are doing text updates.

Not much happening ATM. Just CEO Tim Cook talking about history of Macs and iPods.

Iphone 4S has the processor and graphics chip from the iPad 2. Exterior is the same, and it has an 8mp camera.
Ipod touch is basically the same as last year. It has a price drop to $199.
IOS 5 is being released on oct. 12.
That is all so far.

$199?! Please cite your sources!

Yep. Here

Ok event over. Not much more than i said in the previous post. Just a voice command software called Siri. Iphone 4S comes in 16,32 and 64GB specs. Priced at $199,$299 and $399 with contract respectively. Iphone 4 now $99 with contract.
More info on 4S here

Actually a bit of a disappointment on the iPhone front. Was expecting a bit more from apple, rather than just taking over parts from the iPad 2. Oh well, there's always next year.

It's nice to see a constant evolution, but it's still not enough to tempt me away from my Android phone. Heck, I'm sure I can get a Galaxy S2 for a lot cheaper.

Hmm, a little disappointed that the iPhone 5 wasn't announced but the specs of the 4S look pretty good. I'll be pre-ordering a 64Gb at the end of the week as my 4-year old 2G is dying fast! I have some great client contacts at one of the major mobile comms companies, so here's hoping for a very good deal! :D

I'm still disappointed we didn't the upgrade to 4G, I'm sort of sceptical how they are getting great than 4G speeds out of a 3G data network.

It's funny how people are complaining about it, it's met pretty much every rumour aside from a bigger screen and a different design. I wouldn't upgrade my iP4, but I like pattern Apple have put out - new design every three ish years, a spec bump in between. Means that users won't feel as compelled to upgrade every year.

I think apple-maniacs will still upgrade just to show they have 'the latest thing' when actually there really isn't any need to upgrade to the 4S.

So you know them all then. I'm guessing, by your own definition system, that you're a blackberry-maniac, an android-maniac or a I-don't-need-a-smart-phone-maniac. ;)

Ah wrong. I am typing this from an apple device, and I can count 7 apple devices in my house ATM. :) 👍

Hardcore ones, yeah. I'd rather buy an iPad 2.

My family and I are massive Apple fans: two Macbook Pros (13" and top of the line 17"), two 64GB 3G iPads, three iPhone 4s, an Airport Extreme + Express and countless iPods in this household, still not going to upgrade. :p

If they did that, what would the iPhone5 have to offer?

Wait, what? An extra 100 bucks difference between the 16, 32 and from 32 to 64?!

Hasn't it been this way since the beginning of iEVERYTHING?

Who knows what will be offered next year with the iPhone5 and who knows where mobile technology will be. Android phones have caught up to the iPhone in just about everyway they were lacking before. If Apple wants to stay on top of the market they need to pick up newer tech and run with it.

I'm looking at the first galaxyS,(reminiscing) the streak5, and the iphone 4 in front of me and fail to see what the android phones are missing that the iphone has. Yes, the android phones are rooted and running custom roms that make them less stable, but it's no worse than running the iphone for 4-6 months and then dealing with sluggishness and random lockups. I still prefer my 2g even though they stopped supporting it years ago and it's stuck with ios3.x.

The Android operating system had an app library that was severely reduced from what the App Store offer through iTunes. They've caught up and probably surpassed Apple. Android phone have now become faster, with bigger screens and 4G support.

I don't really think the Android phones are missing much now days.

They are missing a little Apple on the back, and weren't announced by Steve Jobs.

I think I'll get an iPhone now. The 4S is a decent enough spec upgrade.

Personally, I'm glad that they didn't change the aesthetics of the phone, because IMO the iPhone 4 is still the most gorgeous-looking phone out there.

I would probably wait for the 5, never been a fan of the 'S' revisions. Also most smart phones now have much larger screens with just as good resolutions.

The Siri thing is quite interesting but as history has proven that stuff never works, especially at the level Apple are claiming.

Apple do have a knack for implementing old ideas in new ways that work well though.

Both the Galaxy S-II and the HTC Sensation have larger screens but lower resolutions than the iPhone 4. I know it was said when it first came out, but the Iphone 4 has an amazing screen, and with the better hardware inside the 4S, it is just as powerful if not more so than the bigger android phones. I look at my Sensation now and wish i'd gone for the S-II, or waited for the new Iphone.

Whoever mentioned 4G support, there is very little difference between it and HSDPA which most phones support. HSDPA is far beyond '3G' as we knew it a few years ago. As far as I know, 4G isn't as widespread enough as it needs to be in the US to take advantage of it.

I don't mind the lack of 4G. I assume we're getting 4G speeds without the battery penalty.

You're assuming wrong.
I have a "4G" phone with AT&T and I cap out at around 8MB.
I've seen Verizon 4G phones hit an upwards of high 20's, low 30's.

Also, Apple isn't ahead of the game anymore, they're behind.
dual core processor?
There's been Motorola dual cores since Feb.
The Galaxy S-II is just icing on the cake.
However I need an iTouch for all my apps I bought while being an Apple user...

For those of you with iTunes, the presentation is now available for free to warch. Just search "apple keynotes" and look for the 4th october one.

Yeah the iPhone screen is amazing but I wish they would bump it up a couple of inches. HTC actually has a Retina Display equivalent which they call SLCD which also looks pretty damn good. There's also the qHD screen from Motorola.
