Loading times gone through the roof

All of a sudden gt5 is taking an absolute age to start up. Track loading times are still normal. It just hangs at the gt5 logo for minutes, and then again upon pressing x to select Gt5 mode.

I tried searching but only got a few complaints about general loading times.

Surely I can't be the first to experience this, so hopefully someone can help.

Mine was like that when I had a bad internet connection plus a bad router. I upgraded both and it was fixed instantly. But your saying that this is sudden. So I dont know if this is the problem. Try taking it offline. If it loads up like normal then you know where to start looking.

You could try clearing the cache.

You mean the browser cache or the system cache?

Anyway, tried some other games, and in the end rebooted my router (thanks for the idea, Hawaiian) and it appears to have resolved the issue.

It would never have occurred to me that gt5 is in such communication with the psn that it can hang when loading if there's a gremlin in the system.

Pretty much every button press in GT5 seems to result in the game "phoning home", which is odd to say the least. So a "bad" connection, or busy time of day (for the servers the game communicates with) will result in hangs.

While this is true, I can tell you that my main PSN account takes considerably longer to load than my GTP account for some reason.

I delete the cache every so often and the result is the same. The only thing I can think of is the fact that I have almost 1000 cars on my main account and my GTP account has like 300.

These ridiculous loading times have been affecting me for a few weeks now. Very frustrating, indeed. As far as I know, the only thing that's supposed to help is clearing the cache. Is there anything else I can do, because these loading times are just aggravating. :scared:

If you check under 'community' in the GT home screen, you'll see a log of all your in-game activities. My log seems to be visible on gran-turismo.com too. That's most likely what the game is phoning home for.

If you disable your PS3 internet connection or just don't log in to PSN, you'll probably see a decrease in loading times.

This, Exact same Problem, and the same fix.

I have been having problems with these absurd loading times since 2.02. It's very irritating. I never had so many problems with an update as I'm having with this. I hope the next update fixes everything because I spend more time looking at a black screen with a GT logo than playing when I'm connected to the PSN.

You have to disable the connection entirely; being logged into the PSN is seemingly not a requirement for (some of) the checks, for some reason. I guess in the same way that you can update the game without being logged into the PSN. (At least I think you can, I've set mine to sign in automagically now.)

If I disable the wireless on my router, but leave the connection "enabled" on the PS3, it'll hang like a wotsit when the game starts and occasionally during menu transitions, so some of the checks are more-or-less permanent. Clearly I cannot be logged in to the PSN in this case.

You are right though: disable the connection completely, and there doesn't seem to be any hanging in normal play, although it might still hang on first loading the game and going into GT-Life. Disabling the connection is not really a fix, mind you.

I'll admit the loading times do seem slower, but nothing like some of you guys are describing.

Actually takes even more time to load when you're logged in to PSN.
I got sick of it loading incredibly fast some days and the next day being slow as a snail.
So I just disabled the automatic log in to PSN... I don't race online that much anyhow.

Doing that (at least it seems to me) once you log in, it seems not to take such a long time to load.

I have noticed longer loading times since 2.02. Even hanging up a little more. It's not too bad but it's noticeable.

I'm having the same issue. I clear the cashe quite regularly. I think my disk is broken because it keeps crashing and sometimes doesn't even show up on the XMB as there is a disk in there. :(

Oh man this happened to me so much today. Your Internet connection has a lot to do with it I find as mine is great and garbage all randomly. However when it's real garbage I just get signed out and have no connection so it can't just be Internet. The cache thing I did before and it did help quite a bit so I will do that again soon. I think with all the new content etc being added the size is getting so large it's prob having more trouble having to check everywhere.

I'm having the exact same problem. Everything that leads to the main menu results in the GT logo staying forever. I have no idea what could cause this.

Earlier today, and everyday before I've had no problems whatsoever. today in the afternoon is when everything went to hell. It can take up to three minutes to get back to the menu. No problems with loading tracks, cars, etc.

It's interesting to mention that I logged off while waiting, and it instantly went to the main menu. I tried the game for a while after logging off and averything worked fine. As soon as I logged in, if I did something that took me back to the main menu, it would take forever.

I checked my internet connection, but it's working fine, plus I have the modem connected directly to my PS3. I tried other games and didn't experienced any problems.

Does anyone know what could cause this? Aparently it has to do with GT5 being connected online. And why does GT5 need to be connected all the time even if you're not doing seasonals or racing online, by the way? Could it be PD's servers or something?

I'm frustrated because I can't play like this.

I'm having more or less the same issue as yours mate. :)
The only difference is that my internet connection went crazy in the last few days, where its connection was normal for some minutes and went dead all of a sudden. (No matter how many times I rebooted the modem as well as the router.)

That instantly affects the loading times of the game if you're logged in to PSN. It could take 5+ minutes to load from game start up to GT main menu and another several minutes just to get into GT mode, not to mention another waiting time for the 'loading clock' icon disappearing from the "GT Life" tab. :scared:

If you pressed the PS button to check your PSN connection status (just to see if you're still logged in), the in-game XMB (or simply the XMB) took forever to load the friend list and took another year just to load back to the bloody game! 👍

However, when you're not logged in PSN, the loading times went back to normal instantly!

So, my conclusion is, internet connection directly affects your loading time in GT5. :dopey:

That's exactly what I thought. But I'm thinking there are two sides to this problem. Because I checked my connection and realized that everything was fine, I've came to the conclusion that the problem isn't really on us the gamers side in some cases.

Another thing that I noticed today was that it wasn't letting me connect to seasonals for some reason, and also GT TV. And I know I was logged in because I could get in the PSN store and buy some stuff. I actually bought two of the car packs and installed them fine. But it still gave me some sort of error message that the "server didn't adquire the complete information" or something similar when trying the seasonals and GT TV. Not to mention that getting in the main menu was impossible. I just gave up for today and went on playing something else.

I don't complain much with GT5, but I'm sure that there is something that can be done on their side since there is a point where you don't want to play anymore. I had no option but to log off the PSN and do nothing else than grind the old A-Spec. This problem isn't really us having bad connections. I'm sure that no one could mention another game giving these types of problems when their internet is working perfectly fine.

Try going to GTTV and see if you're downloading anything from there. Hope that helps. ^^

Hmm... Do you think that might be a problem? It does make a lot of sense. I was downloading the "new" intro.

Still, I think I had these problem before downloading the movie. Maybe I just worsened the problem.

Thanks for the advice:tup:

That fixed it for me back in version 1.07-1.09. It really put a burden on my stone-age interwebs and GT5.

Since a week or 2 i have the same problems like you mentioned (screens loading forever and disconnecting all the time), spend a couple of days doing research and here is what i tried so far:

-assign a static IP adress and the DSN codes of your internet provider when installing a internet connection manually on the PS3.
-Port forward your router for GT5 so the firewall goes around it.

Here is the site that explains all:

http://portforward.com/networking/staticip-ps3-playstation-3.htm

I did this and it more or less helps, i still have the problems coming back but then i just switch off the router for one minute and put it back on, this seems the final fix for it to work properly then.

Honestly i shouldn't be doing all of this just to be able to play. PSN and the GT servers should get their act together.

It was GT TV. I just confirmed it yesterday. As soon as I placed another download on hold, the loading times wen't back to normal. As soon as I unpaused them, the huge loading times kicked in again.

I run my internet connection to my PS3 directly. Fortunately, I don't need a router since my modem has multiple ethernet ports plus Wi-fi but I don't use the wireless mode at all. Since it's in my room and only for me to use, either I'm using it for my computer, or for the PS3. So again, I know it's not our problem.

I totally agree with your last sentence. The reason is that no other game gives me these problems. So I know it's not on our side.

That's so true. I used to enjoy play GT so much that I played it every night, but the insane loading time has simply gone through the top of my patience. I think PD as well as Sony really need to improve their quality of their server connections.

Glad to know you've addressed where the problem is. 👍 Yes indeed, GT5 is the one and only game I own that have this kind of connection issue... I'm a bit disappointed at PD on this. :grumpy:
